PipePipe from f-droid is a clone that seems to update more frequently than newpipe, and has the additional benefit of being able to access the Chinese and Japanese video sites bilibili and niconico (worth checking out, it's fascinating even for someone who doesn't speak the languages)

It's always nice to have some motivation from doing things for others. Depending on the service, you can always host for others AND for yourself. It's 10x as much work but you do get positive feedback (sometimes..)

Yeah the Roblox thing is hard to swallow, it used to work better on Linux than on any other platform for me. Everything else there's alternatives - my local PC shop sells machines at a significant discount "without windows installed", maybe if more did that the market would take care of things and the software vendors would have to support Linux.

As a professional juggler practised early on to do things with either hand - whether it's washing dishes or putting a key in the door.. just paying attention to how you do things. Now can take juggle 3 balls in either hand

As a former Android developer, you can't just do anything in an android app on a modern smartphone. The system is fighting you for resources the whole time. It makes sense to have something like this running as root on a device that you control.
Not that I'm sold on it, just saying..

Might be a coincidence but MX Linux still supports 32bit x86 CPU's.
I recently installed MX Linux on an old Dell Inspiron 1300 which inexplicably still runs and it's pretty snappy, considering.
I'll start - Tananas. It's basically the soundtrack to my early adulthood. They were the Dave Matthews band of South Africa.

I'm my county a high percentage of cars have GPS trackers fitted already - by the owner - because of the high vehicle theft rate.
I imagine if that police here just have to call up the tracking company to achieve the same result - something to think about actually (I don't have one, my car isn't worth much)

Then I think the actual answer is there are none. Although PipePipe can access PeerTube? Also BiliBili and NicoNico. BiliBili is possibly larger than YouTube but of course it's all in Chinese!

I mostly use PipePipe on android, from f-droid store. It's basically New pipe but more reliable and can also view Chinese and Japanese video platforms
On desktop Freetube can't be beat

Digital. I've been reading ebooks for years, starting on my flip phone back in the day. The best part to me is being able to seamlessly switch from reading with my eyes to being read to (tts - I'm used to it now and it's waaaay better than it was).
I do a lot of driving for work so I can get a ton of reading done on the road 😁

Also there is the bit about unlocking the bootloader, I heard it's not straightforward.

Yeah I'm going with they're innocent. Just the UI with the install button and no explanation is not cool.
So this just happened - those of you who have a Xiaomi phone know when you install apps it has it's own "Virus Checker" screen which comes up before the app is approved for install. This is provided by Avast I just found out.. Anyway while installing an app from F-droid today I got an error message on this screen - which said "app from unknown source" and two buttons below - "Ignore" and "Install". So I clicked on "Install" since I wanted to install the app and then noticed that the install process seemed a bit different (I can't remember what happened exactly) but I checked the app on F-Droid and the version history wasn't available - which a notice says means the app was installed from Play Store or somewhere else. But I just installed it from F-Droid! So I tried another few apps and it happened again for one of them. I clicked around and there it was, some sort of Xiaomi app store installing versions of the app instead of the one I told my phone to install. I guess there is an innocent explanation for this - stopping people from installing malware and giving them a "correct" version of the app they wanted - but I have disabled it on my phone, I know what I am doing and if I want the cracked version it's because that's the version I meant to install ;)

I was worried about that too but they came back yesterday and the whole troupe skirted the bins and squirter. I'm guessing the ones who got wet told the others it's not worth it. They have plenty of other options in the neighborhood to choose from

Actually now that I think of it - I think I made the last image do a search using only the company name (to avoid same images as others above) so you probably got "Waldo's Weed" there!

Seriously though, the Unsplash search is pretty rubbish. Also, I'm only returning the first image from search (I only have 50/h) , could probably improve the search on my side by checking metadata or something. At least the plant has the right number of leaves, right?
Unsplash has a ton of free content and a great api - so I used the hugchat api to generate search queries based on some user input text and fetched images from there. Buggy test site (using all free api's so will break frequently, free Unsplash* api is 50 pics/h) here: [http://aisitegeneration.devsoft.co.za](http://aisitegeneration.devsoft.co.za) *sorry Unsplash I haven't added the attribution for photo's yet, I will soon ok? Thoughts on this approach vs generative AI?

The votes are in, it is bad UI! Thanks to those who commented and made suggestions.
I have no idea why, but somehow my site became the target of bots signing up, with legit looking emails but username was random letters. I already check for emails, so a friend suggested putting a hidden trip field for the bots (this is apparently common?) and I thought it might be fun if I made it visible.
The field totally worked though, the bots gave up. Still annoyed though, who was it? I didn't post the links to the site in many places yet it's work in progress, I have like 10 (human) users. I guess I need to add some IP blocking and all sorts of other stuff too in future (eg captcha).
And yes the DDG thing was put there by my browser. It's a handy feature, gave me multiple free trials on ChatGPT for eg, before they stopped the new sign-ups!

ChatGPT is incredibly useful for summarising. The next step is to automate the whisper transcription, and add some tts for the replies. So you can talk to it directly
I'm curious did it not lose the plot at any point? I find after a certain amount of questions it rambles a bit - that's on 3.5 though..

Probably have a ton of unusual/unique items, being a magician and juggler, but the one that comes to mind is our dedicated BBQ bellows.
This is simply an old re-purposed balloon pump and lives outside next to the fireplace. Best way to get the fire going, portable, cheap.. Beats blowing with your mouth/waving newspaper hands down.

Just dropping a quick vote for Platformio here. It's a bit of a learning curve but they know how to organise code over there. Also VSCode will super power your coding experience. I used Arduino IDE for many years but almost completely switched now.
Still using Arduino though! #include Arduino.h

I was about 19, a magician friend told me I was good enough at juggling to do busking but I was too shy. Decided to give it a go anyway and remember shaking so hard while lighting the fire torches I was using. Made R30 ($2) so not a lot but I did it. I remember thinking to myself, "I'll never have to work again!"
That was over 20 years ago, and since then - with the exception of that stupid pandemic we had recently - I have made a decent living as a circus performer and magician.
I won't tell you it wasn't a bumpy ride at first, but that first show was the turning point for me I will never forget.

Don't know if anyone remembers but private repo's used to be restricted on GitHub, so I actually use BitBucket for most of my private stuff.
Feels like it wouldn't take much change for me to leave with my own stuff although some presence would always be necessary due to contributions. I don't use any of the "features" of GH though, except for pages and that's for work.

It's in South Africa. You can't legally buy a TV without showing your TV license here.
Luckily this does not apply to computer monitors although there are some in our government who want it to be an obligatory national tax instead - due to widespread non-compliance. The fees support a bloated and corrupt nationalised public broadcaster.
