A rally will be held in Margaret River at the weekend to call on the state government to fund rapid bushfire suppression equipment and scale back “failing” prescribed burns in the South West. Globally there has been a shift towards adopting new early detection and rapid suppression equipment to quickly identify and extinguish bushfires. The technology, including smoke detection cameras, satellite monitoring, AI software and drones to give a bird’s-eye view to spot developing fires, is already operational in Canada and California. It is being rolled out in European countries and along the east coast of Australia. WA Forest Alliance senior campaigner Jason Fowler said the WA government and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions were lagging and reliant on “outdated and dangerous” policy. “The prescribed burning program is no longer effective at protecting South West communities in a drying and warming climate,” he said. “Only half of prescribed burns close to communities have been completed last year because they are too risky. “Forests are also suffering with an increasing number of high-intensity burns causing severe damage.”

If they can create something similar to Brisbane's south bank it would be really awesome.
Lots of shady trees. Not vast expanses of concrete / pavers and native shrubs, that just does not make for a nice place.
A proper pool plus water playground.
Just keep anyone who has Yagan square and Elizabeth quay on their CV the fuck away from this.

Mercs and BMW only. I wonder what the motivation was. Audi fan? Environmental protest? Wealth inequality protest?
Also a gla180 is hardly a luxury car. Gutless little JUHB more like.

Elizabeth quay is sort of the opposite of south bank in that way. Wanky hotels right up to the water.
Likely a pipe dream at this stage. But having just visited south bank in Brisbane it would be awesome to create something similar here. What I liked about south bank: -big shady trees to sit under Lots of nice places to hang out that don't require you to be a customer open access pool, water playground. Lots of places to eat If Perth tried to do it, we would need to bring in the team who did south bank, and keep away the clowns who made the shadeless concrete wind tunnels like yagan square and Elizabeth quay.

The non removable Google search bar was one of the reasons I put Graphene on my pixel.

Ironically it was when the stock android upgrade on my pixel 7 completely bricked my phone (due to the multiple user profiles bug) that I decided to jump in to Graphene head first.
Compared to my experience running random ROMs on Samsungs back in the era of galaxy note 1 to 4, Graphene installer was so easy!

I fear they will go the other way, that is start locking down the pixels to make replacing their OS more difficult.

This acknowledges that some off-road wagons use similar ladder-frame chassis, and need comparable towing capacity above 3 tonnes, to dual cab utes. This includes models such as the Toyota Landcruiser and Nissan Patrol;
Land cruiser and patrol? Oh fuck off. They are primarily used as soccer mum taxis in urban areas.
Apparently Bowen's job title shouldn't be taken as first thought. The "Minister for Climate Change and Energy" actually means the minister for causing further climate change rather than preventing it.

We know the liberal party have been itching to do this for a while now. Scummo mentioned it in the last days before the election.
No doubt it's happening next time the liberal party gets in.
As if it isn't enough that they transfer tax dollars to established real estate owners, they will transfer super balances to them as well.

Perhaps you aren't aware that we have a housing crisis in Australia.
Record low rental vacancies. Housing is too expensive and scarce for people on median incomes.
The people we import typically have enough money to displace those who don't. Those who don't end up homeless. Our politicians don't give a fuck as many own multiple investment properties.

I'll try it when i get spare time. Based on post #79 in that XDA thread, it won't work on my pixel 7 as it also won't install 32 bit apps, same as pixel 8.
I run Graphene, but as far as I'm aware it has the same 32bit restriction.

I've been using this open board fork: https://github.com/erkserkserks/openboard
Mainly because it comes with trace/swipe type input. Is there anything else out there that's better and more up to date? Probably not up to modifying the above to include libraries.
I was a long term Swype user prior to getting a pixel 7, which it can't be installed on due to it being 32bit. I've not found anything else FOSS or otherwise that comes close to being as good as Swype's trace predictions. Sadly Microsoft bought the company that made Swype so the odds are it's never going to see the light of day again. They have their shitty Swiftkey app instead.
I'm sure if we keep voting for the Libor and Laberal parties they will eventually fix it right?

We have been in a per capita recession for ages. The govt avoids a technical recession with mass immigration.
Think of "the economy" as "rich people's yachts" next time you hear a politician or bobble headed reporter talking about something (like immigration) being good for the economy.

Can't quite remember. I seem to recall WFH becoming important, and not being able to travel interstate or overseas easily. Also house prices dipped for a bit until the govt over corrected with a shower of money.
What was it that caused all that again?

Also an old run down house, in 2014 at the peak of the market. Barely managed to refinance a few years later without getting nailed with LMI because the property value had dropped so much. It's really only returned to what I paid for it recently. While I empathise with people who want the real estate market to crash, realise that the people who get fucked in that scenario are those on the bottom rung of the ladder. Not the people sitting up the top.
What I want is probably impossible: static real estate prices and rising wages.
Still if I had done it differently, say bought a newer place and further out, I'd probably have cursed my commute every day instead.

That period during 2020 was the first time in ages I'd felt positive about the economy. Due to the immigration tap being turned off demand in my industry increased and pay and conditions got better.
After Labor decided to open the immigration flood gates, the shoe is obviously on the other foot again as far as employer vs employee relationships go. Pay has flat lined and conditions like WFH are getting wound back. Thank you Labor for living up to your liberal lite™ tag.

The coalition will need to improve their double speak if they are to appeal to both the working class outer suburbanites and their elite business lobby donors. The two groups have polar opposite political wants.
For at least the past 40 years the coalition have waged a vicious class war against anyone not in the top percentiles of wealth. I doubt they are seriously considering changing course there.

Also to be fair, we in Australia are far from being some car free utopia either.
We have heaps of car dependant urban sprawl in our major cities where the vast majority of us live. We are also adding more of this sprawl all the time.
On the plus side most of our state capital cities have got decent heavy rail networks which you can park at stations and ride.

I think that's fairly common for older places.
My experience is similar. Some things were overlooked when we bought. Others just were up for fixing after a few years.
Finding a decent plumber has proved difficult. I've at least found good AC and electrical trades.
Looks like we are finally working towards a fuel efficiency standard. Will be interesting to see what the final details are, especially the year at which manufacturers have to hit zero emissions, and if it's going to be a linear change to get there or otherwise. No doubt legacy parts of the industry will be busy lobbying for their own interests instead of the planet's.
Not sure I agree with the title that no one can ”escape” it. I think the wealth hoarding class does very nicely out of everyone else's misery. Perhaps if things don't turn around their grand children might go from owning the whole country to facing a guillotine. More likely once there is a large enough percentage of people who will have no hope of owning, then they will start to have an effect at the polling booth.
Economists tie them selves in knots trying to justify record immigration: If you own a business, of course it lowered wages, give us a pat on the back. If you are a worker, of course it didn't lower wages, give us a pat on the back. One thing that isn't getting mixed messages is what the increased demand has done to the housing market. Albo would like all the renters to starve harder for the economy please.
Recently made the switch to Graphene and am trying to get my main email away from outlook.com What's everyone using for calendar event invites? I have a mixture of some events that only I need to see, but others I send and receive invites to people using gmail, outlook etc. Currently trying out free Proton, but it's a bit limited. For example if I make a recurring event there seems to be no way to edit or remove a single recurrence. Also would like to be able to use say simple calendar widgets with it. Edit, also discovered that invites sent from gmail to proton simply don't arrive. Happy for a paid service provided I'm not treated as a product for advertisers to market to.
Apparantly there is no way to influence demand for housing.

Australians are driving bigger, heavier, dirtier cars and it's alarming both climate and road safety experts. A decade ago, sedans and hatchbacks were the most popular cars in Australia. Today, Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and American-style utes dominate new car sales and advertising.
