Man, I really do commend the effort you put into this. I'm so far into cynicism land that I don't think I can find my way back.
I just can't help feel like you're wasting your breath trying to reason with ozma (as is evidenced by his hilarious reply to the same comment I'm replying to)
In the last few years, my symptoms have improved in one area (task completion) but have severely worsened in another: short term memory. In fact, it's become so bad that I can't even remember *what I just said* a moment before 9 times out of 10, not just what others may have said. How do you deal with remembering things like that? Writing things down, especially in meetings, is really difficult for me because I end up spending more time typing and less time thinking about what people are saying.

Hauling trash, debris, or brush works way better in a pickup. I want to be able to hose the shit off and not have it inside with me lol But i agree that a van is better than everything else

You're right. I have no idea how to do that, though. One could argue that the solution to that problem would also serve as the solution to the problem of people losing their jobs to automation/AI.
r4venw 4 months ago • 100%
If it were up to me, there would be some sort of UBI, paid into by corporations that replace their employees with AI/robots/whatever, that would support people who have lost their jobs due to automation (and then maybe everyone else after ramp up). I hope that someone young like you can run for office one day and make it happen
r4venw 4 months ago • 71%
I'm very conflicted about this. I'd reckon that the majority of us working on these AI and robotics systems do so to try to make the world a better place; so that maybe one day people won't have to slave away in warehouses all day and pee in bottles because they can't take the time to use the bathroom. Those good intentions always get corrupted by corporations and greed. So do we stop trying to push the envelope? Do we not try to make the world a better place for fear that it'll be corrupted? I really just don't know

Your idea doesn't sound too difficult to implement but I don't know if people would want to store all these messages locally when the vast majority of people are used to having their shit be stored elsewhere. Additionally, if you wanted to target enterprise users, they would want to likely have all their messages centralised for auditing purposes
Other than that, I think its a pretty neat idea

Maybe they mean privilege wrt education? As i understand it, it takes a non-zero amount of knowledge about nutrition to substitute meat completely and not be deficient in something. But I'm a life-long omnivore so I may be wrong

Mr. Biden said in February about the report that he was "especially pleased to see the senior special counsel make clear there's stark differences between this case and Donald Trump." But Mr. Biden later said that "there's even a reference that I don't remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that? Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself it wasn't any of their damn business."
The transcript of Mr. Biden's interview shows the president was unable to identify the precise year, but that he correctly named the month and date. "What month did Beau die? Oh God — May 30th," Mr. Biden said in the exchange.

Sounds like the tree was due to be felled. This artist arguably saved the tree by turning into art. While he did oil it to keep it from rotting, he oiled it using a plant based oil safe for proximity to water ways. This sounds like as close to a win as anyone's gonna get in these circumstances

I've seen a similar thing: rural people talking about all sorts of progressive ideas like UBI, student debt relief, and other policies for helping others (sometimes without even knowing that they're talking about progressive ideas) yet always go back to "immigrants this" or "elites that".

That's a great point. I was being kind of reductive.
Perhaps religion's most zealous followers tend to be people who have trouble contextualising information? That would certainly help explain why the "I got mine proceeds to pull up ladder " attitude is so prevalent there...
Anyway, I don't want to come across like I'm arguing with you.

I wonder if the concept of religion itself is conservative or if it just attracts that kind of person? My understanding is that most religions' holy texts are effectively just guide books on how not to be a dick to others (not that religious people actually read them that way). I wish someone would do a study to explore this cognitive dissonance in more depth

I am a complete cooking novice and I just bought a new non-stick skillet (greenpan). I'm terrified that I'm going to royally fuck it up. What are some tips and tricks to keep in mind so I don't? Also, are there any foods that cook particularly well in a non-stick skillet? The first thing I made in it was bacon and I was actually really pleased with the result! The burgers I made later on, not so much.
