I disagree boycotts are absolutely effective. Montgomery bus boycott. Even the starbucks boycott going on right now. If you hurt a companys source of income they tend to act pretty quickly.and it doesnt just apply to consumerism it applys to celebrities and politicians through cancelling and or not voting.

I dont know is the problem. For example I'm boycotting Nestle and i have been for years at this point. They're the worst they dont think water is a human right etc. I tell everyone about it it when it comes up. But at the end of the day i dont think its doing anything to Nestle.
I support protesting however you can i guess, but I'm also very pessimistic about odds of success

I think that in large part direct action has become less effective as corporations have learned how to deal with them. And the way they deal with them is by ignoring the problem until people forget about it.
ndondo 3 months ago • 100%
But thats the thing, are strikes even effective anymore? I haven't seen one that succeeded in the way that the ones described in the 30s did.
ndondo 3 months ago • 100%
The revolution won't be televised. Direct action is largely toothless. Iirc somebody lit themselves on fire to protest climate change and it was barely reported on. But somebody puts paint on the Stonehenge or even mildly inconveniences the public and it draws attention via outrage for a while. Literally all a protest is trying to do is draw attention to an issue. And this is one of the only methods I've seen that still works. Srsly why bother with direct action when it won't achieve anything

Check out LineageOs. The point of the phone os is to allow you to keep using your phone for as long as you want. Bit of a pain to initally setup though

Iirc manjaros problem is that its half arch in that it does staggered updates which doesnt mesh well with aur.
EndeavourOS handles the install so you dont have go through a complicated install just like manjaro does. But from there you basically have a barebones arch install with no staggered updates or anything. So all the kde packages should be up to date there too.
I did try manjaro forst and ditched it but i dont remember why.
I do use gnome though so take this with a grain of salt.
I can say I've never had a stability issue with arch though.

Distro hopping gets addictive and honestly if you're happy with where you are i wouldnt recommend you switch anything.
Buuuuut if you're going to do it anyways EndeavourOS. Its arch for begginers you can branch out to more complex things if you want but the install is painless and works out the box. Arch is in general VERY customizable but its a double edged sword so having guardrails during the setup is helpful.

Imo not everything is for everybody and thats ok.
If marvel movies arent your thing just dont watch them, theres too much good media out there for this to be a problem.
And i think trends are moving away from the marvel style movies anyways. Has there even been one in theatres this year? That studio that made everything everywhere all at once has been putting out great stuff.
Have you tried Arcane? Its a video game adaptation executed extremely well.

I get your frustration. Certs matter education matters too, the problem that you have is that i have 20+ resumes that look exactly like yours. I cant interview them all. So i need something that makes you stand out.
If you have a github accoutn thats the easiest way. Add a link to your resume and people will look at the work you've done for class projects and go off of that.
Personal projects dont have to be ones that cost money assuming you have at least one computer. Write up a simple powershell script to handle a task that you need to do or something. Extra points if its on git hub so somebody can look at it.
Thats actually why i brough up the pihole project that one can be setup on any computer in a home network very easily. Displays basic sysadmin/networking skills to setup, and is pretty cool to have once its done. To be fair that one takes a bit more work though.
You dont have to go that far out of your way to do some of these and they do separate you from the crowd.

Our fields are close enough that i can comment on this.
When I'm looking at your resume here's what i gather about you. Student, with no relevant job experience who has done school projects that might indicate alignment with what we're doing.
The problem with resumes like these are that I have no proof that you're capable and its not fair of me to expect proof because that comes with experience.
What I usually do is look for passion projects. Anything that indicates that you have a genuine interest in the field that i can follow up on. Then I'll talk to you in an interview about that to confirm your problem solving skills.
Pretty much everything else can be taught.
Lets say you configured a nas server at your house or self hosted something like pihole or jellyfin (career specific) that stands put way more than a class project.

This actually highlights my issue with it. Both this and racism feel the same to me. Even though I aknowledge that they clearly aren't.
End of the day I'm still being judged for something i didn't do and wouldn't ever do. And that sucks.
But seriously fuck my feelings, do what you have to to stay safe

Push up, pull up, leg raise , and squat progressions daily at about 40% effort. Two hours between each set as per grease the groove. Ideal because I can run the routine in between breaks at work. Did the math on the reps and they equated to what I would be doing if I was on a 3 day split.

It is. But in your defence at this point it only matters when something goes wrong. And that's getting pretty rare.
I think it's why there's such a clear divide between people who "just use Linux" and those who don't. Modern computers hide almost all information that would let you figure stuff out on your own and Linux makes you figure stuff out like once a month.
But all that means is that your choices are more and more limited. And it's how Microsoft is able to sneak such predatory practices into their OS. You can't go anywhere else

I'm exactly who you're talking about and i can say its not as simple of a take now primarily because housing is exorbitantly expensive and it looks to be only getting worse.
Idk if I even disagree with what you're saying. But its so frustrating bc i really spend on just food an housing and i'm barely getting by. And i hate it.

Thanks for providing such detailed responses. I think my biggest problem with marxist ideologies is that I don't know an example of them working outside of theory. It seems to me like greed is a natural part of human nature and capitalism generally feeds into that nature as terrible as that is. Its not sustainable in the long term, but that also tends to be when revolutions happen to redistribute the wealth

100% agree. I had a much higher opinion of the soviet union before i heard how little it took to be placed in a gulag. It sounded like a toxic environment for voicing concerns at the very least. Although my sources could be biased I suppose.
Generally competition is good for the "consumer" or citizen in this case
Hey everyone. I'm curious what books you've found to be useful in your own lives and if you have any reccomendations for us. Mine would be the Compound Effect by Darren Hardy which talks about consistent small actions leading to momentum/habit and driving massive amounts of change.
