Severed Steel is a single-player FPS featuring a fluid stunt system, destructible voxel environments, loads of bullet time, and a unique one-armed protagonist. It's you, your trigger finger, and a steel-toed boot against a superstructure full of bad guys. Chain together wall runs, dives, flips, and slides to take every last enemy down.

What to do if I accidentally commit an API key or other sensitive information to the git repo?

I know that pushing a commit with an API key is something for which a developer should have his balls cut off, but... ...I'm wondering what I should do if, **somehow**, I accidentally commit an API key or other sensitive information, an environment variable to the repo. Should I just revoke the access and leave it as is, or maybe locally remove this commit and force-push a new one without the key? How do you guys handle this situation in a professional environment?

The author of the fork declares 100 percent compatibility with the original project's database. As you move, the database structure will be changed (new fields will be added) to be compatible with the fork, but it will still also be compatible with the original project (which simply will not use these new fields).

I used conduwuit for a long time and it seemed very stable. Now I don't host my server anymore because my friend hosts his own server and lets me use it, so I have an account on his server.

The original developer is trying to do things slowly and stay with older versions of the dependencies, while the author of the fork is of the opinion that the dependencies should be updated to the latest versions and take advantage of their capabilities (such as performance improvements) which does not necessarily please the original author.

In addition, new features are implemented in the fork that are not present in the original project, because the author of the fork is pushing for rapid development (which doesn't mean it's a bad thing)

Users have the right to choose the Linux distribution that best suits their needs. Different Linux distributions offer different features and user experiences. To downplay these differences and claim that all distributions are the same is ignorant. Anyone who wants to get the most out of Linux should be aware of the wealth of options available.

It's like buying shoes - if someone says they're too tight, you can say, “You picked the wrong size, lol.” Each pair of shoes is different in many ways.

So, if you can't understand that different Linux distributions provide different experiences, it's better for you to stick with Windows, which offers a uniform experience, and not argue about it.

    TL;DR:

    • Windows Recall, part of Microsoft's new Copilot+ PC initiative, has sparked major privacy and security concerns.
    • The feature uses AI to capture and store screen data locally, allowing users to search for past activities using natural language.
    • Despite assurances that data is not uploaded to the cloud or used by Microsoft, user trust is lacking.
    • Microsoft has a history of practices that have eroded user trust, including obtrusive ads, ignoring user preferences, and requiring Microsoft Accounts.
    • Users are skeptical, fearing future misuse of the collected data for advertising or AI training.
    • Windows Recall reportedly stores data unencrypted, making it vulnerable to access by third-party apps and potential malware.
    • The open nature of Windows amplifies these risks, unlike more secure systems like iOS and Android.
    • Users have compared Windows Recall to spyware, with many threatening to switch to other operating systems like Linux or Mac.
    • Microsoft's attempts to keep the development of Windows Recall secret did not help build trust.
    • Windows Recall will only be available on new Copilot+ PCs, requiring specific hardware not present in existing PCs.
    • Users will have the option to disable the feature, but there are concerns about it being enabled by default.
    • Despite security issues, the feature is effective in helping users find lost or forgotten data.
    • It could improve productivity if trust and security concerns are resolved.

Fortunately, no. My school expects me to use XAMPP (a LAMP stack but without "L" cuz it's on Windows) and Microsoft Office applications like Word, Access, and Excel.

While in the case of LAMP, I can install the individual services (Apache, PHP, MySQL) myself from command line, Microsoft Office applications won't work like that.

In my view, this is unacceptable... They changed my background (previously there was a default blue window), placed an icon in the bottom corner of the screen that read "Learn more about this photo", and re-added the search bar that I had previously removed. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with this on a daily basis.

    "Hardware Error" after power failure

Hello, Today my washing machine completely broke down. My parents desperately tried to get it working, but it resulted in the circuit breakers tripping and my server (an old Dell Wyse thin client) experiencing a hard power off. When I tried to turn it back on, I received these errors on the screen. I ran a memtest, and it completed without any issues. I also created a disk image backup just in case. Is there any chance of getting this machine running again, or is it only fit for utilization?

    [Solved] Self Hosted Calendar

Hi, everyone! For several years, I've relied on NextCloud as a substitute for Google services. The time has come to say goodbye and move on in life. I've decided to replace my NextCloud instance with separate services for files, calendar, photos, notes, and to-do lists. I've already found alternatives for all services, except for the calendar. Does anyone have experience with FOSS projects that would allow me to self-host a calendar? I'm looking for something that supports CalDAV, has its own (pretty) user interface (webui), caters to multiple users, and supports multiple calendars. And if anyone is interested in the alternatives I've found for each NextCloud component, here's the list: NextCloud Files -> [File Browser](https://filebrowser.org/) NextCloud Notes -> [Joplin](https://joplinapp.org/) NextCloud Photos -> [Immich](https://immich.app/) NextCloud Tasks -> [Vikunja](https://vikunja.io/) NextCloud Calendar -> *???***___** # Edit: In the end, I used [Radicale](https://radicale.org/) software. I deployed it in a docker container and it worked almost right out of the box.

Is the Fediverse truly decentralized? Not exactly. blog.benjojo.co.uk

The author examined the distribution of instances in the fediverse. Given that many instances are hidden behind CDNs like Cloudflare or Fastly, the author employed ActivityPub's functionality to discover the actual hosting locations of servers. More than half (51%) of the fediverse is hosted within a single hosting company. The author suggests that the fediverse hosted mostly with a few major providers, deviates from its initial objectives.

Hello, I've been using GNU/Linux as my primary operating system for several years. Every year, various websites release statistical reports on their users, detailing the operating systems they use. I've noticed that many privacy add-ons spoof the User Agent to make the browser appear as if it's on Windows. Despite using GNU/Linux, my browser presents itself as if it were on Windows 10. My dilemma is whether I should switch the User Agent to Linux. The User Experience in Matrix will mostly fall short. Unless we do something.

I'm writing this post on behalf of my friend, a non-technical user who had the chance to use Matrix for about a week. I'd like to share his experience with you and ask what you think about it. Matrix clients are incredibly challenging for the average user and seem unfriendly towards non-technical users. Unlike Discord, a non-technical person won't grasp most things without thoroughly reading the Matrix specifications. Many can't afford to do so for various reasons: lack of technical knowledge, limited time, or simply not wanting to, preferring a functional communicator like Discord or Facebook Messenger. Discord's registration is straightforward, with a refined user interface that just works. You register, invite friends, and you can chat and voice call seamlessly. Now, Matrix registration. You choose a client like Element, widely promoted as the flagship Matrix client. After registration, you face the user interface, with unclear options tucked away where you wouldn't expect. They are cryptically named, making it hard to figure things out. After googling how to invite a friend, your friend joins, and a decryption error appears. Another 10 minutes spent reading how to fix it. Okay, problem solved. Your friend calls, you want to answer, and... darn! You can't click anything because "the voice call is in an unknown state," and the dreadful ringing sound reminiscent of a '90s phone puts you in a gloomy mood. This isn't something a new user should encounter right after registration. Element may be open source, but it's developed by a for-profit company with a team of programmers. The issue isn't exclusive to Element but extends to almost every Matrix client. This way, the Matrix network won't attract new users. If users face such issues, they'll quickly flee to a stable, popular platform like Discord.
