OP is making the classic mistake of form over function. The colorful backgrounds of the top license plates look nice in photos but they make it more difficult to read a license plate number on a moving vehicle.

Since design should take function into consideration, I think some of the more esthetically pleasing plates, at least according to OP, would be considered to have poor design.

Sure the plain plates are a little boring but I'd rather have a boring, easily legible plate than a pretty, indecipherable one any day.

About 5 months ago I ordered this clock and it is still working fine now. It's definitely cheaper than the listed price (it's just cardboard and the clock motor) but it's absolutely silent and it makes me smile every time I see it.

I also bought a lot of cute clothes for my dog for under like $5 each outfit so that's really nice.

    What's a good handheld for a kid?

Wanted to give my cousin (11) a handheld since he's never had a game console. He saw my stepsister's PSP and was interested in it but she wanted to keep it. Would like the system to be as simple as possible since he's not very tech savvy but also be able to play some PSP games since that's what piqued his interest. Budget under $100 just in case he doesn't like retro games

Homer buys Lisa a cheap animated video for her birthday. The scene is from the video.

Lisa gets upset, though, because the video proves that Homer knew absolutely nothing about her.

He then hires a PI to spy on her to find out more about her. Shenanigans ensue

    Edit: Found the clip

How do you manage power outlets?

I've got a lot of devices that need to plug into an outlet at my desk. Right now, I have 2 surge protectors completely full. I wanted to get a smart surge protector to auto turn off/on devices I don't want left on all the time (ex: speakers, monitor, DAC/AMP, printer). But the smart surge protectors have fewer outlets than my current one. My question is, how do you manage your outlets when you have a lot of devices that need to be plugged in? I don't want to have 3 surge protectors plugged into the wall. I'm already drawing a lot of power in my home office with my mini fridge also plugged in (on the opposite side of the room). I've also heard of something called UPS. Would that be better than plugging it into a surge protector? For those curios, the devices I have are: - Two monitors - Speakers - DAC/AMP - Router - Modem - Printer - Ethernet Switch - PiHole - Solar panel monitor - NAS - Landline phone - Backup external hard drive

Piggybacking on this to say that if you join groups based around your hobbies you can make good friends that way too. It's really hard to make friends during class because you're too focused on schoolwork to be social.

And don't be discouraged if one group doesn't work out. I had a tough time making friends my freshman year of college and tried joining an anime club but didn't like the vibe of that club. My RA pushed me to volunteer for Resident Life and that's where I made all my closest college friends. Joining clubs, volunteer organizations, or other social groups is a great way to meet similar minded people. People in these groups tend to be friendly so they can attract more people into the group.

    Questions about a mesh network

I'm looking to replace my old Netgear Nighthawk with a new router. Currently my house does have some dead zones which we make up for using a powerline. But the powerline isn't always stable and we have to switch wifi networks depending on where we are in the house. My question is, **is it better to get a mesh network or a standard router with either range extenders (ex: TP-Link OneMesh) or mesh features (ex: Asus AiMesh)?** I couldn't really find any article that listed the differences between mesh routers and standard routers with extendable features. They only compare mesh routers with standard routers. More info: Preferably, I would like to go with the standard router for the higher speeds and extra ports but I'm afraid that won't solve our dead zone issues. Also, buying two or three standard routers is way more expensive than a mesh network with multiple satellites. Speed and signal strength are important for me since both I and my brother WFH and do online gaming. Unfortunately, the home office (where the router is) and bedrooms (where we game and where my brother works) are on opposite sides of the house. Another note is that when the garage opens, my brother loses signal in his room for some reason. I haven't experienced that despite being closer to the garage than him

The sourdough ranch bacon cheeseburger from Carl's Jr was my go to burger back in the early 2000s. They brought back another sourdough sandwich a few years ago and it was also good but unfortunately that's also discontinued.

The sourdough from Jack in the Box is close but with the lack of lettuce and onions feels a little dry.

("The Story of the Wild Huntsman") is the only story not primarily focused on children. In it, a hare steals a hunter's musket and eyeglasses and begins to hunt the hunter. In the ensuing chaos, the hare's child is burned by hot coffee and the hunter jumps into a well.

Thimbleweed Park seems to fit your criteria. One of the reviews even compares it to Twin Peaks. It's a point and click murder mystery adventure game with where you have to switch between 5 characters.

It's been years since I've played but I think the setting was in a fake Northwest Pacific town.

Fun fact, the names in the phone book and the titles/stories of the books in the library came from Kickstarter backers. Some of the books were pretty funny.

Also depending on how heavy the leveler is, he can use painters tape. It's meant to be placed in the wall temporarily and not damage the paint on the wall.

During its weekend convention, the Arizona GOP also passed a resolution to censure Pence and former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley for “their dereliction of duty of refusing to support President Donald J. Trump and by default supporting the democrats.”

An equally concerning, if not more concerning, move by the Arizona GOP was to punish Republicans who didn't support Trump. Neither Pence nor Haley endorsed Trump for president and that is apparently a bigger crime than trying to overturn an election or being removed from office for ethics violations.

I have a Homer clock that would say a Homer quote every hour. My grandpa got it for me at a garage sale so it meant a lot that he remembered something I liked. Since he said the same unique quote for every hour, I could tell what time it was based on the quote.

Unfortunately I had to put the clock in storage since it stopped working. The second hand kept getting stuck, even with new batteries.

I also have a pair of Homer slippers. I wore the hell out of them in college. I had to buy a new pair recently because of how worn out they were.

I'd agree with the exception of artists who sell their printed work (ex: photographers, graphic designers). They're not only making money from their prints but also printing in color frequently enough that the cartridge doesn't dry out.

Interesting read. Never thought about how the emotions of songs have changed. I wish they discussed more on how the different ways people listen to music affects the complexity of the song lyrics.

They briefly mention how most people listen to music as background noise and that the first 10-15 seconds are crucial to whether people listen to the song or skip it.

But there are also other factors I wished they mentioned like how easily accessible songs are (you don't have to go out and buy a physical copy) or other types of audio competition (like audio books or podcasts). Since musicians have to try to appeal to as many people as possible to compete with so many other choices for people to listen to, the lyrics have gotten simpler and more repetitive/catchy.

But I guess it's not so much an explanation of why lyrics have changed but proof that it has.

Generally love that type of humor too but it's less funny if the person making the joke insults the other person. Because then it makes it seem like the joker does not get that there's two meanings in the phrase, like how the original commenter noted. It makes the joker seem condescending and oblivious.

Saying these types of jokes with a straight face would be much funnier than if the joker was mean spirited. Leslie Nielsen was a master at this.

True, but I was comparing it to Mandarin and Cantonese (OP didn't say which Chinese language but I assume it's one of these). Both of them are also tonal languages from what I understand so in that way they are all different from English.

However, Vietnamese is easier since the characters are more recognizable. Listening to movies/shows with subtitles makes it easier to understand and it's easier to pick up reading Vietnamese than reading Chinese.

The issue here though, is that for OP it seems like Chinese is the more practical language to learn since their "friends" also speak it.

Objectively speaking, Vietnamese is much easier to learn for an English speaker too since they also use the Latin alphabet.

Not sure how many Vietnamese speakers are in the UK though.

"The ending isn’t any more important than any of the moments leading to it" from To the Moon.

Haven't played that game in over a decade but I still remember it being such a great emotional roller-coaster.

It's $2 on steam right now and has such a great story and soundtrack for that price. It's only about 4-6 hours but the memory of the story will last for much longer.

Is it possible to get a virtual credit card for a different country?

I wanted to get my mom YouTube Premium for her birthday but don't want to pay the ridiculous annual price for my country (especially since she mostly just watches YouTube shorts). She uses an iPhone so trying to get adblocker would be too much of a hassle, especially if it stops working. She won't be able to figure out how to fix it. I've tried using account sellers in the past but the last one I used had some issues and now I can't add my mom's YouTube account to a different family account for another year. I am able to use a VPN to buy premium for cheaper from a different country but they require a credit card for that country. Is it possible to get a virtual debit/credit card for different countries?
