Thanks for the response!
If all people involved in something fully understand and consent to what is happening, then they should not be “judged” for it.
Here's the thing: this statement still hasn't entered into non-judgment itself. When you use the word "should" you're already holding one thing higher than the other. And again, this is natural for us to want to do! But who is consenting to this moral framework in the first place?
That's more than a loophole or caveat -- it's a limitation of all judgment. Judgments don't exist in the world; they are passed by judging creatures. So the only way to find a world without judgment is to, at the very least, practice separating yourself from your own judgments. Seeing the world for what it is, we can pause in our concern for what ought to be.

this might sound cliché, but what if the start of non-judgment is within yourself? you've already judged society to be too judgmental!

the only thing that could "make" me happy is a change in mindset, perhaps forced by brain damage.
as far as how I will make my own happiness, it comes down to making choices informed by my own values, painstakingly discovered through mistakes, introspection, and connections with others

Yeah! I always keep Narcan in my desk. And it seems a lot of people know how to use it (literally just plug & push). It's widely available, given out for free, distributed to broad populations regardless of drug use.
Narcan is one of the biggest revolutions in medical care since the invention of fentanyl.
Find out where you can get one.

Yea that's not quite the right word... there isn't a better one though. What I'm trying to say is that a lot of the white women who do get picked up for shoplifting, they "look crazy", for lack of a better term.

I'm still pissed at the way Reddit was celebrating Musk's takeover, as if it was some big loss to him. Oh boy, a billionaire lost some money that he would have wiped his ass with, this is great as long as the fascist doesn't turn the biggest social media platform into a fascist mouthpiece!

good points! this is a decent depiction of exposure therapy.
TW have an odd history. they originally were very useful, because one thing you forgot to mention about exposure therapy is all the work that needs to be done leading up to it. you have to have physical grounding skills in place before exposing someone to adverse stimuli.
so imagine you have severe PTSD from SA and a college class is gonna show a film that depicts it in an ugly scene. it could fuck up your whole semester to have traumatic stress symptoms come back unexpectedly. I'm talking panic attacks, flashbacks, mood disruption, difficulty controlling violent impulses, difficulty concentrating, difficulty connecting with others.... PTSD can be wild.
so the prof might give a TW on the syllabus, so people just dont come in that day if they don't wanna see it.
nowdays TW is just "here's a thing you dont like!" not "here's something that could potentially ruin your life again"

‘minimal abstinence outside of hospital.’”
I'm not sure why folks seem to think ‘minimal abstinence outside of hospital’ is a smoking gun. That's pretty much how medical staff should document an alcoholic whose sobriety only began while hospitalized. It means she hasn't been able to quit drinking!

Americans fetishizing Japanese culture is gross enough without the awful, verbose, melodramatic storytelling. Also the Japanese language is fucking hard and I'm not particularly interested in learning it. I'd watch the fuck out of Korean anime if their storytelling wasn't just as thick, though.

Yes, I read the article three times over, trying to chase down false info someone posted in here. His offer is irrelevant. The prognosis was not good enough for him to donate. They only included it in the article for the melodrama. It's nothing more than an "I would die for her!" moment. Well, I'm glad the medical board did not condone assisting him with suicide.

Lying about substance use to a confidential healthcare provider is not going to do you any good. If you have drank so much that you are having liver failure, they will know you are lying. If you haven't drank that much, what's the purpose of lying? To perpetuate the addiction?
TimewornTraveler 1 week ago • 100%
I assume you were not getting a transplant? The risks of regurgitation during surgery is in no way comparable to the risk of relapse in someone with hx alcohol use disorder in early remission. Addiction is a terrible beast. I am sad that she died too, but we have to blame the systems of addiction, not the medical board.

[she] relapsed into drinking while on the transplant list,
Where does it say this? I reread it 3 times. That's a huge part of the story and not one you should just make up!
Hear me out. There's nothing innate to an object that makes it "food". It's an attribute we give to certain things that meet certain qualities, i.e. being digestible, nutritious, perhaps tasty or satisfying in some way, etc. We could really ingest just about anything, but we call the stuff that's edible "food". Does that make it a social construct?
I accidentally added something to the filtered keyword list and i dont see a way to remove it. (Please don't include the word "fat-taco" in your response...)
**Help me understand Voice Recognition tech** I am interested in getting an app that would allow me to make notes via voice-to-text. I work in a field with HIPAA protections. I'm having trouble figuring out the nuances of privacy related to these apps. First off, is this kind of software considered "AI"? How does it even recognize that a sound equals a word? Do they use LLM tech? Does the tech learn to recognize my voice better over time? Does it use my recordings to learn to understand other's voices? Is this all a black box? How can I take precautions such that *no one* except me hears the things I transcribe? This is just such confusing tech! It seems like it's fairly old and common but the more I think about it in relation to current age AI, the more creeped out I get! And yet my doctor uses one regularly... I'll be asking her about it too, don't worry. Thank you!
I appreciate all the hard work you do, but this is a hard No for me. I can't use an app that forces me to view landscape gifs in portrait mode. Is a rotation button a feature you'd consider?
Someone told me to post this here and that's all I got to say. My popular opinion is that I don't like this flavor of subcommunity
Huh! In my speech, the Tr in "tree" or "trigger" is really close to Chr as in "chree". In fact to pronounce "chree" I have to aspirate so hard to distinguish it from /tr/. Is this common? [ˈt͡ʃɹi:] instead of [ˈtɹi:]? Why does this happen? Is there something about going from a plosive to an approximant that creates an affricate?
I am over being disappointed by streaming sites. "I wanna watch X, let's see if Netflix has it..." \*Opens webpage* "Hmm... Netflix usually sucks, they probably wont have it. I'm just gonna say I'll watch Y off my hard drive instead. But let's still confirm that Netflix doesn't have X..." *Next thing you know, I'm watching Y off my hard drive.* Streaming services suck so much nowdays that I already resolve myself to watching something else before I even finish checking. Gotta shield myself from disappointment. Why would you pay for each channel on a TV? Just get the hard copy at that point....
No, I wont name the specific title. I don't want to break Rule 3. But I do want to understand why a movie or show can be so hard to find, because maybe that will lead me to understanding how to find things. I am surprised how hard it is to find some titles. Maybe it's because the one I'm thinking of is an old title, 60s or 70s era. But it's extremely popular, even today. It's been on hopping around streaming services. One would think it would be readily available on the high seas too. I don't really know how one creates a torrent but I'm assuming anything that can be streamed can be captured. I guess maybe it's just not as popular as I think?
I just checked out Twitch again after a while and WOW has that site gotten shitty. But I'm trying to watch someone and really don't want ads every few minutes. Instead of paying Bezos to remove half the ads, how can I configure my uBlock Origin to block them all for free?
I got a box full of a bunch of stuff from over the years. Some big, some small, some expensive, some cheap. It seems like a shame to throw it all in a landfill, with or without personal data.
I don't see Old Reddit lasting long. They've cut beloved features before, and they're still calling New Reddit a "beta feature". After they've pumped enough resources into developing it, I'm sure they'll move past the "test" phase and just cut Old Reddit out entirely. That's probably going to be Lemmy's next big user surge. Does Reddit suppress mentioning Lemmy? I remember for a while this past June 2023 there were a lot of auto-deletions for mentioning or linking to Lemmy. I was never clear on who was deleting things and where. I guess linking to the r/Lemmy subreddit (or a fediverse sub) could work as long as the subreddit doesn't get banned.
Surprised this place doesn't have more shitty posts like this one if ppl actually followed the rule
[Resolved, thanks!] Weird, but I just got two copyright notices from my ISP. I always use a paid VPN (Proton). How'd they see me? I did accidentally open qBitTorrent before connecting to the VPN yesterday, but immediately exited the program before anything loaded. Is that enough time to get two strikes? One was for seeding TNG S03 and the other for TNG S05 lol. What confuses me is that that happened yesterday, but the email lists the day *prior* as the time of offense. So I guess it's time to set up a kill switch or make sure the qBitTorrent wont open without Proton connected. If anyone has a guide for that send a link my way.... thanks.
Assuming that boys are socialized to be more confident, bold, and outspoken, the end result is that men will end up talking over women. In an open forum setting, such as a professional or educational one, when the floor is open to anyone, it seems like men are more likely to speak up first. Part of me thinks, "Well, anyone can speak if they wanted to! If I can count to ten and still be the first to talk, then so be it!" But part of me also wants to help uplift others and give them a chance to speak. How might men navigate this?
Really nice to see players like all of you AND devs like Evan showing up on Lemmy. It's been sad to see so many game subs stick to Reddit this year. It's honestly been kind of slap in the face to see a place like r/Terraria sticky this big protest automod message to the top of every thread but not make any kind of move to relocate here. Just wanted to show some appreciation to the PD crowd!
Recently learned about this stuff on a Lemmy World post and I thought I'd move the conversation here since they've been fussy about DB0 in the past. I'm really just a common seaman when it comes to the high seas. I just use Proton and qBit and whichever website is supposed to be safe and active nowdays (currently Torrent Galaxy?). I just download from the magnet link to qBit and save it on my drive. I don't know much about torrent streaming or ports or networks or anything IT might ask me to check beyond "plug it in". But for some shows I've only been able to find single episodes, not full seasons, so when I heard about something that compiles stuff for me, it seemed convenient. I'd be curious to learn more. Unfortunately the websites for these services don't really offer any explanation to new users and laymen, so I got a bit lost. Thought I'd ask here rather than venture into their forums where they already don't seem to welcome idiots like me. So... what the heck is Sonarr and how do I use it?
No gatekeeping on links. I click a link and it opens instantly without giving me a chance to view URL. Malware inc. Cannot properly view parent comments/context when reading inbox replies. If I get a reply to something and I cant remember what i said, I have to dig through the entire comment section of the original post. my parent comment doesn't appear half the time, it's inconsistent. and if I have several replies to one comment, there's no way to navigate to my parent comment and all its replies; I can only view one comment thread at a time if navigating from inbox, or all comment if navigating from OP. does anyone know if any other lemmy apps have these basic functions?
Haven't used Twitter in years, fully deleted my account when Musk took over. Unfortunately I need to see a user profile now. I just wanted to see one old page, but apparently I can no longer do that without logging in. Is there any up-to-date method for bypassing this? I tried uBlock zapper to no avail.
That's dumb. let me click their username or add a menu option for view profile.
RIF used to have a box that popped up when you clicked a link. It let you copy the link or navigate to it. It allowed you to view the full URL too. Voyager just sends me there. You can imagine esp with what's going on here that just navigating somewhere is pretty dangerous. I want a gatekeeper like RIF used to have. This is especially important because I don't always realize that a thumbnail is a link and not an image. And with news sites, I want to first check the URL to see if it's a tabloid. I don't want to give clickbait clicks before I know.
I go to view a comment with two dozen replies. My comment is #16, a direct reply to the parent comment. I want to view the original parent comment. I click parent. Screen scrolls up half an inch to comment #15. Cool. I wanted to see comment #0 though.... Can we have the parent button do parent button stuff?
**Microsoft Mouse puts itself to sleep when idle and takes 5-10 seconds to become responsive again after moving it.** **Hardware:** [I believe it's this one](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/new-microsoft-bluetooth-ergonomic-mouse/94jnl0t5kdck). It's a Bluetooth Mouse, has Device Switching but only used it once. **Description of the problem:** If I move the mouse after not moving it for about 10-15 minutes, the mouse does not respond. After about 5 to 10 seconds, it begins to respond again. Then it works perfectly fine, as long as it's not idle for more than 10-15 minutes. **Solutions Tried:** This has never happened the other two mouses I've used, one wired and one wireless. It's the same bluetooth connection and same USB port as the other wireless mouse too. I have checked the USB sleep settings, and I remember looking for that checkbox that said "*Allow (something) to put (something) to sleep*" and I was surprised to see it was already disabled. I'm guessing this is a mouse issue not a Windows issue. This mouse does prompt me to install some Windows software to help with the Device Switching thing. I installed it on my laptop but not on my main PC. (Windows wants permission to do updates and diagnostics and I'm hesitant to give them any more permissions than necessary). I don't remember exactly but I believe this issue was always present, even before installing any software. I have *not* checked whether this issue happens on the laptop. **Help Request:** Has anyone heard of this problem, either with this mouse or a similar situation? Were there any solutions? What might I look at to find a solution? Alternatively, if I can't stop it from going to sleep, I wonder if there's a way to just make it stay awake longer while idle. Thanks!
