Yeah my friends really weren't my friends, they were all political dick heads. to be honest i really don't care if another person has another political party they agree with. I'm pretty apolitical and think both sides have certain points that i agree with and disagree with. But somehow politics always got brought up and divided the friend group into political party's and belligerent bickering ensued. So sophomore year, I just sat by myself and enjoyed my solace. until junior year, where i met some new friends that actually care and didn't really care about politics and have been hanging with them since :D.

the year i broke off from them was heavily politicized, and the full friend group i had at the time is now completely dissolved and everybody moved away. and the person who i would consider the "leader" of the friend group, which i had multi experiences with. alot of the time would "Prank" me. which was ultimately a fucked up immoral "joke" if i can call it that.

we had a MC survival world we all played on, i mean sunk hours into. one day he blew up many peoples houses and put bedrock around. and left signs saying trolololo now see at this point it justs a guy being a dick. but there's more to this story, so then him and his friend gaslight me for a week that a hacker logged onto the server and destroyed stuff. i explained i worried about if the hacker got our IP addressees and could hurt us. i got like 2 hours of sleep for all week. the other friend felt bad and eventually came clean about the "prank".

She began her career in television, making appearances in commercials and television series, as well as the 1987 film Jaws: The Revenge. She also provided the voices of Ducky in The Land Before Time and Anne-Marie in All Dogs Go to Heaven, both released after her death. I am somewhat in the same boat, but more gentoo sided. For the main repo they killed mkstage4 because its outdated and insecure. So like you i wanted to backup my data (my gentoo install) to my nas or local storage. Rsync is the magic bullet for this. You can use ssh to securley transfer data to or from the server. And it automate it via a cron job (i suggest fcron) for a automatic timed backup/sync. Now i will add, rysnc can be used as a backup. But as the name implies it syncs data from one pc to the other. So if you break your desktop and it syncs to your server. Your SOLPDQ, thats only if you automate it tho.

And for the services id reccomend making a directory and adding all the services to a group, which owns the directory. Or the more lazy solution, which is probably frowned uponed. But you can rsync your docker container data to a directory where it has permissions to copy/sync.

Id highly recommend Rsync tho and just syncing offsite to another computer

    PSA: Don't be an Assbag

I have a few friends who work retail, and we've talked about nightmare customers. The shop closes at 7:30 every Friday, but two people often walk in between 7:10 and 7:30 to demand service that takes 30minutes to complete for one person and is appointment only which all appointments are closed by 7:00pm for the staff to leave on time. They expect to be served despite the fact that the tools required for the service are already put away by 7:10. Sometimes my friend bends to their requests, but I keep telling him: closing time is closing time, and doing so is like teaching your dog to eat off your plate. It's okay for now, but it will come back to bite you.

If you're going to show up close to closing time and are still willing to be served, then TIP THEM WELL. I've done it a few times, and I'm guilty of it, but I've made it worth their while.

There was one time in 2023 when my friends and I wanted to get together for some wings. We stopped by a dinner on the outskirts of town at 10:30 pm, and they close at 11:00 pm. We went in, and I asked if they would still serve us because I know it's late. And I don't want to be an asshole. They served us, and we enjoyed our wings while catching up on life before leaving a hefty tip on the table.

This year, there was another time when we went out to a local car hop at 8:30 pm, which closes at 9:00 pm. The girls serving and taking orders did a great job, and it was scorching hot outside all day. Since I don't go out to eat often and would rather give my business to mom-and-pop shops rather than the local megacorporation, we all pitched in and left a 40% tip – which came out to be around $24 on our $60 meal. When she came to take the tray from the car window, she asked if we needed anything else, and I handed her the tip of $24. Her face lit up, and she asked if this was a mistake. I said it was on purpose, and for her to have a good night. She smiled and thanked us before we left. Although the tip hurt my wallet quite a bit, with my brain reminding me of the $24 I lost, it felt good to help someone out – especially since she likely deals with a lot of crappy people in crappy weather.

Debian 12 saved the weekend! intel core 2 duo gaming session.

So over the weekend me and the lads decided to play Mindustry (i think im addicted). Ive never been a fan of RTS games but Honestly been loads of fun. I usually play on the Ybox which is what i called by LAN rig. but sadly the motherboard kicked the bucket (it was a xeon 2697v3 14 core and a X99 machinist motherboard which ran gentoo). so i dug around in the closet to hopefully salvage game night and found 'yeee old reliable', so the cool part is mindustry has really low system requirements Linux Minimum: Memory: 1 GB RAM Graphics: Anything with OpenGL 2.0 Support Storage: 200 MB available space So me and the Bois played just like normal, except i was running 10+ year old hardware and you really couldnt tell the difference the system specs for the "shitboxPro" as named Intel core 2 duo E7500 AMD RX 570 2Gb of ddr2 RAM Running Debian 12 with the Mate Desktop (i was originally going to install Gentoo on it but didn't want to spend 3 weeks compiling LMAO) it kinda blows my mind that this new of a game, granted its writ-in JavaScript and uses so little ram and runs on grandmas pacemaker. it kinda leaves me wondering what happened to the gaming industry? It went from excellent games that sipped ram to storage queued for a 200G update (im looking at you COD war zone). I also want to express my gratitude Towards Debian and Linux as a whole, this computer cannot run windows 10. I live booted just to see the slideshow that was windows 10 on 2GB of ram, and Debian ran really smooth. also shout out to the Dev for a great game that's insanely optimized! I would love to hear about other experiences you have had with legacy hardware and use cases! Thanks for reading and have a good one! --added note, my apologize for the bad punctuation and such i never was good at english in primary LMAO

Lightburn laser cutting software is killing linux support. forum.lightburnsoftware.com

As a advid user of lightburn for my business, this truely saddens me. I loved being able to have the freedom to run linux and have 1st class support. Lightburn states in this post, about how linux is less than 1℅ of there users. They also state it costs lots of money and time to develop for each distribution. To which i gotta ask WHY not just make a flatpak or distribute source to let the community package it. Like its kinda dumb to kill it off ive been using zoronOS for 3 years running my laser cutter! And it works bloody great!!!! The last version for linux will be 1.7 which will continue to work forever with a valid liscence. I do not plan to switch back to ~~windows~~ spyware or ~~MAC~~ overpriced Unix. I hope the people at lightburn reconsider in the future, There software is the best software for laser cutters period. And when buying my laser cutter (60watt omtech) i went out of my way to buy one with a rudia controller as it is compatible with lightburn. --edit just got the email this is what they sent "To our valued Linux users: After a great deal of internal discussion, we have made the difficult decision to sunset Linux support following the upcoming release of LightBurn 1.7.00. Many of us at LightBurn are Linux users ourselves, and this decision was made reluctantly, after careful investigation of all possible avenues for continuing Linux support. The unfortunate reality is that Linux users make up only 1% of our overall user base, but providing and supporting Linux-compatible builds takes up as much or more time as does providing them for Windows and Mac OS. The segmentation of Linux distributions complicates these burdens further — we've had to provide three separate packages for the versions of Linux we officially support, and still encounter frequent compatibility issues on those distributions (or closely related distributions), to say nothing of the many distributions we have been asked to support. Finally, we will soon begin building LightBurn on a new framework that will require our development team to write custom libraries for each platform we support. This will be a significant undertaking and, regrettably, it is simply not tenable to invest our team's time into an effort that will impact such a small portion of our user base. Such challenges will only continue to arise as we work to expand LightBurn's capabilities going forward. We understand that our Linux users will be disappointed by this decision. We appreciate all of our users, and assure you that your existing license will still work with any version of LightBurn for which your license term is valid, up until LightBurn version 1.7.00, forever. Prior releases will always be made available for download. Finally, your license will continue to be valid for future Windows and Mac OS releases covered by your license term. If you are a Linux-only user who has recently purchased a license or renewal that is valid for a release of LightBurn after v1.7.00, please contact us for a refund. Rest assured that we will be using the time gained by sunsetting Linux support to redouble our efforts at making better software for laser cutters, and beyond. We hope you will continue to utilize LightBurn on a supported operating system going forward, and we thank you for being a part of the LightBurn community. Sincerely, The LightBurn Software Team Copyright © 2024 LightBurn Software. All rights reserved. " I appreciate that there willing to refund recently bought liscences and all versions up to 1.7 forever instead of DRM bullshit (you gotta buy the newest subscription service) {insert cable guys from southpark} But if your rewriting the framework then why kill off linux??? They said there working on a native arm build for MacOS which knowing apple your gonna half to buy the new macbook cause the old one is old and apple needs your money. So its not anymore of a reason to kill linux TLDR: there killing linux support because its less than 1% of there userbase and they spend more money and time maintaining the lightburn build.

SDesk OS, and frowned on open sourced?

I recently spent some time browsing my favorite website, Distrowatch.com, where they provide weekly news updates on the latest developments in the world of Linux distributions. This week, I noticed that a new distro had been added to their list: SDesk. Given its intriguing name, I decided to take a closer look and discovered that it utilizes a programming language called 'Blue'. What caught my attention was that to use this Blue programming language, one must pay $131! As someone who values open-source principles, I found this surprising, especially since many Linux distributions are built on the idea of free and open collaboration. Other websites also features links to a previous GitHub page for Blue, which was removed. Without knowing the original license used by that project, it's unclear whether using paid-for programming language in an open-source operating system would be legally acceptable. As I'm not a lawyer nor an expert online, I'd love to hear from anyone who might have insight into this matter. To me, it seems counterintuitive for a Linux distro to incorporate proprietary programming tools that require payment to edit or modify code. This goes against the fundamental nature of open-source collaboration, where code is freely shared and repurposed. It's an interesting development, to say the least what are your thoughts? dead-github link https://github.com/SteveStudios/Blue --edit also when finding the link duck duck go said it was GPL V3 ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/9234e88f-eaf7-463e-abaf-1d90d02df90b.png) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/1595975e-c1d1-4d49-85e7-a2b41cabbfc4.png) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/9ed11852-5474-43e4-bcd8-1d99dd69a046.png)

self hosted newbie question about moCA router

Hello and good evening self hosters! so i recently new to self hosting, i just installed my CM3588 DIY NAS with a bunch of services which is very addicting! but i digress, so i recently found out today that we pay $11 a month to rent our router for our house. Which i personally think is ridiculous! So i am looking into buying to own, not renting to burn money. However the router seems to get internet from the ISP through moCA which looking at router that support moCA are rather limiting in speeds and very expensive. So my query for this fine, fine community is if i were to buy a coax/moCA adapter that then coverts it to Ethernet and then plug it into my router and and then by proxy my access points. would it work, wifi 6E looks super nice and there are very few options that are very pricey for modem/router combos that support moCA. I am open to alternatives and ideas, and please correct me if i made any mistakes on terminally or my diagram thanks folks! Edit--- my current router is a ARRIS Surfboard TG3452 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Voice Gateway Modem Router with 802.11ac Wi-Fi & MoCA 2.0 So

Injection molding is pretty fancy stuff +recap

So for the last month-ish Ive been working at my new job as an injection mold operator, which has been rather interesting. I first thought of injection molding as a basic concept of hot plastic gets shot into a mold and gets ejected. But there is so much more that goes into injection molding. There is back-pressure 5 heating zones a TCU which helps the plastic cool in the mold before it is ejected. Then the eject pins extension length and speed. There is probably a lot more as-well but that's just to name a few. There is so many variables into running a injection molding machine, luckily the company i currently work for is teaching me everything and im trying to learn as much as i can (which is slightly overwhelming). The only real annoyance is the plastic smells quite a bit and i read all the MSDS's i can. Something i learned that was a neat tidbit is that plastics like Acetal and TPV, and many other co-polymers is they have alot of nasty stuff in them, and the nasty stuff is only released if it gets above the recommended plastic temperature which is rather important to keep it with a safe range. On a side note the last place i worked, i liked the people but hated the job and lots of people said the equivalent of "same shit different pot" aka the job you had is going to be alot of the same even if you move. And there mostly right, instead of carbide and kobalt its plastic. The only big diffrence is this place is full time and actually doesn't bully you for wearing PPE, as-well the people there are also rather nice just like the old place. also any other injection molding operators in the community, and if so do you like the job? as-well as any experiences with it. also huge thanks to everybody in the thread for helping out and getting me to this point!

Do you strictly only do metal working? (poll)

I've wondered for a while, there are lots of things that attract people to machining, and with that come areas. My previous instructor would say (in no offense) but in this class we are not doing wood working, we are doing precision machining ". he also dabbled in leather working in his free time. So it raises the question "do people that do machining mostly do purely metal working or other tasks including wood or leather just as much?" https://strawpoll.com/1MnwO2Av5n7

It's a brown and Sharpe No.38 and looks pretty good for how old it is. i also got the lot for $15 and I can't complain. ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/e4f0e1cb-831a-4f72-a224-979a48a2b563.jpeg) There was also 2 mics which were no name and one that is very hard to read but says "Central man. Co Auburn MI certified accuracy" on the black tag ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/4b9bd52b-4329-4fcc-80e7-3a53b86de95d.jpeg) I also found a mic operation manual ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/5f749926-40da-4f4b-befe-0c8f14e65f2b.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/ea531c14-5c4b-47b3-8af2-e086c0faec98.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/a5bac3ed-6fb1-45df-8460-83f03f767604.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/24de8eb6-f557-4668-8467-947c5ebb7383.jpeg) also, there's just something so neat about old school graphics ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/d866d420-82c5-4b83-94ad-0ecb189470ba.jpeg) I got a Lufkin manual as well, sadly there was no Lufkin. ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/35a81c23-b8c1-4a81-9955-83e11dc15b8c.jpeg) Here are the pages if anyone wants to read it. ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/c2538e48-6143-4992-9254-e27695cd8eb1.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/b38f0036-b9bd-4874-bae6-3f6dc7367797.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/ebe5cbd5-f77e-418d-9747-e97b352ac7f8.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/53cbbf2a-f8b3-4f73-bee1-f7d64a81cf0d.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/e3e8f56b-f22b-426f-835c-1fb4353c23be.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/85599a92-a65e-492e-afeb-d2f9c92d1201.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/46dc0d27-e9d4-4c56-8a01-fc4c3dc687d7.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/78bf62e2-5cd9-40e9-83a9-3b83b9080af2.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/de774c6f-109f-485b-a44c-752c2795b982.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/981d105a-0cb0-4692-9d27-82c69a218be0.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/6c56c477-6126-4941-84b9-2fa7b1377db8.jpeg)

Tool found in lot at a flea market, I have no idea what idea it is. https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/09480281-c6ee-458b-8635-7f3472224a73.jpeg

So I bought a small box of tap wrenches, and it had a dollar general dial caliper in it, as well as this. The guy had no idea what idea it is, and neither do i, he seemed to think it had to do something with machining ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/465e392f-124f-40b0-b328-1cb1aacbc3ff.jpeg) The "roller has 2 textures and 3 different sized wheels that thread on. ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/a5345c7e-2d41-4ca5-ae16-9955a2eb079d.jpeg)

You can only pick 2 games from steam to play for the rest of your life, what games are they?

I have a large library of steam games, but yet always come back to Garry mod and ravensfield. I keep coming back for the modded content and every other game is excellent, don't get me wrong. But a lot of big games like RD2 and watchdogs 2 just seem like such a long time investment. What 2 games do you infinitely come back to?

Whats your thoughts on Ai in your terminal? www.warp.dev

Today i was doing the daily ritual of looking at distrowatch. Todays reveiw section was about a termal called warp, it has built in AI for recomendations and correction for commands (like zhs and nushell). You can also as a chatbot for help. I think its a neat conscept however the security is what makes me a bit skittish. They say the dont collect data and you can check it aswell as opt out. But the idea of a terminal being read by an Ai makes me hesitant aswell as a account needed to use warp. What do you guys think?

Good news, New job opportunity! (update added)

    # Recap So, for a recap for people who don't know my current situation. I've been working at a die shop for 6 months, and the position is in maintenance. I was told that after an amount of time, a machinist job would open, and I could continue to learn so much about the amazing trade that is machining. However, it has been 6 grueling months. I have worked part-time 3 days a week as the employer would not hire me full time. Although I did enjoy the free time, I would like to be able to afford things. Plus the working conditions have been sketchy at best, So after I left some slight insight into my work on this community, it was evident that I'm not just being a complainer and my job actually sucks. My duties at this job have been, in order, from what needs to be done first to last. Assembling push pins (for a process on a die) Brazing solider pins, cleaning up mill and lathe, facing cutting and polishing dies on lathe, punching out reclaim dies. These are all the thing I do in my day-to-day job and I somewhat enjoy facing and polishing dies, however It's pretty far down on the list, and I've had 4 eye infections because of grinding dust ending up in my eyes (yes I wore safetys). So thats what I do, I love the people at my current job. They are all supper friendly and I know a lot of them thought family and friends before I started working there. So with great help from the community I've been looking else where, I looked at one shop that was hiring for a manual machinist (I've never programmed a CNC, I'm a button pusher). So I thought "sweet a new job, and it's machining and the starting pay is $17 an hour" So I looked them up drove there got an application, and got an interview. Talked to some old timers and a self-taught machinist, They were both pretty cool guys. So they sat me down in the break room and asked the generic questions, do you have a valid driver's license, why are you leaving your other job, have you committed any crimes? the answers were pretty easy (I never did anything stupid) then they gave me the shop tour.... Bunch of South Bend lathes, 1 Atlas 12in (I thought that was pretty funny to see) Mill ports, bridge ports, boring mill, BIG ASS Cincinnati lathe. And they did have a CNC, it's from 1995 And it runs Mylar ticker tape. Ok, maybe not the most up-to-date shop, but I'm not picky. So I talk to the Old timer for 30 minutes, He tells me that they have had tons of people that come in and say they're machinists, and they don't know shit. He told me a story where a guy came in, First day on the job puts a block of steel in a vice then starts to load an end mill into the collet. Old timer goes, "you're going to want to use the Edge finder" and hands it to him. The guy puts the collet down and puts in a Jacobs chuck and doesn't turn the spindle on and just pushes it up against the block and says "ok got it set" Guy was fired by lunch.... Anyway I talked to the Old Timer for a bit, and he told me starting pay would be $15 an hour (so they lied on indeed), and we went to the office, the HR lady asked "is he a keeper" and the old timer shrugged. The HR lady gave me a folder full of insurance paperwork and company polices. I said I would have to think about taking the job. Yeah, I didn't, So I was on the job hunt again and heard of this company a little ways out of town. 2 weeks ago sent them my resume and Nims Certifications attached with the Application, get a call last week to set up an interview, went to the interview. They were impressed, they asked generic questions like what tools I've used mic's calipers, that kind of stuff. I tell them I took a machine class, the guy asked what metals we used. I named all of them 1014L 3003 Aluminum, and some other random stuff (donated steel). The guy seemed surprised, we finished up the interview, and they took me on a shop tour. My god, it was eye-opening the floors and the wall were not covered in black dust (probably carbide) and you could eat off the floors. It was that clean, my job starting out would be deburring and adding a chamfer to a part on a Bridgeport mill. They said, "your hands are probably going to be covered in oil so it's going to be a little dirty job, are you still interested?" for context, my hands are black at the end of the day at my current job from polishing. plus, starting pay is $15 minimum, and they are willing to pay you more based on your experience level. They said it would be about 30 hours of deburring every week and 10 hours of helping out other departments, and they are going to cross train me in other departments. Tomorrow I have a 2nd interview lined up with them, and I am super excited and can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks for the support, Guys! # ---update Went to the 2nd interview, they thought I would be a better fit for running an injection molding machine. Because I'm mechanically inclined, and evidently impressed them. I told them I have never ran an injection molding machine before. And they said that's perfectly fine and are willing to teach me, they made sure to infasize that if you don't know how to do something make sure to ask. (because mold are super expensive) Which I really appreciate, you can tell at my current job I irritate people by asking lots of questions. And the new company was very upfront about everything and asked multiple times if I was still interested in the job throughout the interview, as it would be lots of learning. They wanted to hire me because their current guy that is running the injection molding machine, will soon have to run other machines and tasks. Currently the machines are fed by medium-sized bags that are manually fed every 2 hours to the hopper. The company is working on buying large pallet boxes and vacuum system to make it easier on the workers. My duties of the job will be inspecting the parts, making adjustments if needed. Starting and stopping the machine at the end of the day, and changing molds every week. As well as, they plan to teach me to use a forklift for moving pellet containers. And during the job if I am not doing anything I am to help in other departments as it is a small company. I am a little nervous but excited for all the new learning opportunity and plan to give my current boss my 2 weeks notice.

Yep shes an orange vice alright

so for a while at work, we have ran the Tormach. so originally we had the same coolant as a Hurco CNC and the tormach is in a small room, which made the EDM guys displeased because it reaks. so we switched it out for the coolant that originally came with the Tormach and it didn't stink as bad. well finds out that coolant does stop rust that bad. so we took it out and were trying to clean it up.

Welp boys fixed some problems at work

so fun fact inhaling yummy iron dust is not very BASED. and i mean i could wear a respirator, but the whole thing is even with wearing some safety's and a respirator i still got iron dust in my eyes, and have had about 4 eye infections. so last weekend i decided to fix that, i took a Hepa filter and laser cut a mount for a delta server fan and made 2 rings which hold the filter via caughter pins, i also had a mic arm that i lost the end. It sucks up all the iron dust from polishing. And if your wondering i really have only been at this die shop for a few months (basically 1 month after i started this form.) and Ive had a lot of challenges with working at this establishment, at least job wise. the people that i work with are really nice and have never had any problems. but the jobs are shitty to say the least and pay is not that good. im technically a maintenance worker, but i end up doing all the "shitty jobs" and i really dont get paid that much, im part time and get paid $14.60 hourly which a walmart worker gets paid $14 from where i live. and i really have a passion for machining, my senior year i took a machining class, and i was hooked. all i really do is cut, size and polish dies and other junk like running the cnc (which i am a legit a button pusher) i know a little gcode like g73 is a peck drill can cycle. but i dont get to program or anything, i just take parts of of the vice and put new ones in and press cycle start the shitty part is that for a lot of local shop you needed to know how to run a CNC. and sadly the class i took was a 2 year course and the second year was learning CNC, so i never got to. and that left me to finding a job that i could be hired and hopefully work my way up. at this point i don't think im ever going to get a promotion, and am currently searching for a new job. i know this is rather personal, but what do you guys think? ive been on the fence about leaving, and some of you may be wondering why i made the filter, and its because its kinda the whole fuck around and find out thats at my work place. if a worker asks for something like new ppe, the boss dislikes you and you basically get punished in a way, shittier jobs, less hours, denied days off.

Raspberry pi 400 Print server, permission problems?

ok, so i have recently took the plunge into self hosting with my raspberry pi. i got an SMB share Running with anonimus permissions (so anybody on the network can access the drive) and i install CUPS and the necessary driver for my Epson ET-2800 (btw download it via apt, i spent 4 days trying to get it to work from Epson website, which BTW was useless because it had x86 driver and arm v6 and my pi 400 is arm v7.) anyway i digress, so the main problem and i cant find any documentation (at least some i can understand) is that i add my printer via gnome "printer settings" and it add it and shows up fine. but when i go to print it cancels job? however i know the driver and cups works alteast of the pi server, if i ssh into it. and run "lp testdoc.txt" (which is a text file i made to check if im loosing my marbles) and it prints without a hitch. i have also done "sudo usermod -aG lpadmin root" so i believe it has something to do with cups permissions. any help would be very appreciated. my cups config file LogLevel warn PageLogFormat MaxLogSize 0 # Allow remote access Port 631 Listen /run/cups/cups.sock Browsing On BrowseLocalProtocols dnssd DefaultAuthType Basic WebInterface Yes # Allow remote access... From left to right and reasons why I carry it. [Nixon Regulus] it has a timer, (which is really great for cycle times on the mill and you gotta use the can) 2 chronographs, 3 alarms and most importantly tells the time. The reason why I chose this watch is that I wanted a simple watch with a few feature and ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want a smartwatch because of privacy and how useless they are without a phone connected, I originally thought about buying a Casio gshock but wasn’t thrilled at how it looked, although I have heard some pretty crazy stories of them surviving. [USB Toolkit] USB-C to USB-C cable (quick charging and data in a pinch) USB-C to Lightning (for that one friend that insists on owning an iPhone) USB-C to Micro (for them crusty old devices) USB-C to A (for when USB c isn’t available) USB-C male to USB-A Female (for when you need to plug something USB-C into USB A) USB-C to micro SD card (for when you need to save a file or need a Linux live environment) [Wallet] it was a gift, have no idea what brand it is, It’s made out of canvas and has a neat little pocket to hold my USB-C stuff. [Leatherman skeletool] I have always like having a screwdriver and pliers multitool, I in the past carried a Gerber center drive and loved it. Except for how bulky and heavy it was, it also did not fit in my watch pocket/coin pocket. I also have used the Gerber Dime, which I really liked because of how pocketable it was. However, I used the pliers on it and it broke :/. So I settled on a Leatherman Skeletool, I don’t like it has proprietary bits, but it’s really lightweight and fits perfect in my coin pocket. The main reason I like having a pair of pliers in my pocket is at my job I do a lot of cutoffs and there are hot metal chips that make the pliers very useful when u need to move them [Atom Tech Power Bank] it has 1 USB-C (in and out) 1 USB A port it’s 3000mAh which isn’t that big but I only use it for a hop up on charge as I rarely use my phone and my earbuds have big batteries [extra mentions] I also have a pair of Sony xm3’s i daily for music and junk, and they work pretty well, and sound great. They are kinda big case and earbud wise, however I’m fine with some chunk.

had fun with a press last week

So, last week before Christmas (also late merry Christmas) I was running this super neat and terrifying Hydraulic press. I asked are resident machinist about it, and he told me "it was a military surplus Hydraulic press, it was originally made for WW2 and crimped bullet casings". I can't show a photo of it because it's in are store room with lots of "trade secret" stuff. But ill explain it with a very poorly drawn version ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/c5ee2b4e-b338-4c06-8942-d2a4232d673e.png) It was really neat to learn about the history of this neat machine. And the challenges we're currently dealing with. Such as it runs for 20 mins then shuts off the one smart other maintenance guy said it was the pump going bad and we're probably going to have to replace it. The press is kinda scary though, the punches blow apart if you load something wrong (which is my fault) and hearing it start to move down the punch is quite scary as I have seen punches explode, and metal shards fly everywhere. But it was kinda fun in the scary kinda way!

Nightmare removing wire from spools averted

So this week at my workplace, Mr. Boss man wanted me to recycle spools. of unused/unwanted wire. Also, I kid, I really do like my boss and my workplace anyway the slight problem is that the spools are made of steel and the wire is aluminum. so I had to figure out a way to get the wire off. The original plan was to use a hacksaw and cut through the end of the spool. However, as I know from last week of doing precisely that with smaller spools. IT SUCKS DONKEY BALLS, my wrists were roached by the weekend. So I figured that the spool had a metal rod that was crushed inside to hold it together, as well as the heads of the spool had bent over tabs. Which my co-worker had the idea of using a chisel, to break off the tabs then I used ye-old South Bend to drill a hole into the taper and bust off the side of the spool. Video of turning down inside, https://files.catbox.moe/n6t3el.mp4 [](https://files.catbox.moe/n6t3el.mp4)

Query about your linux daily drivers?

So i have my main system, i have been running NixOS on for over a year. It has been a pleasure to daily drive. And ive recently been playing with gentoo and funtoo. And althought alot of information, which is somewhat overwhelming but is slowly growing on me and making me appreatate linux as a whole. So i was wondring what other software users run, and what hardware they run it on. Ive also been looking into replacing my lenovo W540 because the Nvidia K110m is royal pain and kills my battery life. Ive been looking at lenovos t480, t480s t440p. And cant decide, i really would like at least 4 cores, good linux support and long battery life aswell as repairablility. The laptop is going to mostly be a web browsing machine aswell as trying out gentoo and new distros. If you have any suggestions on a laptop id very be much grateful. Cheers,
