It is a requirement when you take a driving test that the assessor judge what you are looking at. That way, they can see if you're checking for hazards. This is impossible. My attention does not move with my head. My retinas contain more light sensing rod cells at the periphery, which are better at detecting movement and hazards. People are better at sensing hazards at the edge of their field of view. It is impossible for an assessor to see a driver check for hazards at the edge of their view. In order to pass a test, I must move my attention, my eyes, and my whole head when I look in the mirror or for other hazards. This is slow. I have autism. My attention already moves slowly. The added distraction of doing this is dangerous. I might as well be looking at my phone for all the trouble it causes me with paying attention. Driving tests are fundamentally flawed and the job assessors are asked to do is impossible. You cannot see someone's attention move when they are driving optimally. Driving tests require drivers to drive worse.

I recently finished Enterprise season 3, and oh gods that was a slog at the end. Like 5 plot-heavy episodes in a row! No fun, no whimsy, no exploration. It's the least star-trekky I have ever seen Star Trek. So I finished it, and thought "can we see some strange new worlds now?" And then Archer was taken prisoner by nazis and I was all "oh no, is this going to be season 4?" But that got resolved in two episodes and I was glad. But now there's an augment arc? Please tell me it ends soon so we can get back to the strange new worlds. I have the same problem with SNW, to a lesser extent. Too much klingon war stuff, not enough strange new worlds. Lower Decks has the perfect amount of strange new worlds, though, they visited a Halo this season! It was perfect. Imma give up on Enterprise if there's a whole season of augment drama.

A month ago, I made a post asking that c/twoXchromosomes be removed from the instance due to known concerns with the name in regards to trans people, and the mods' stated intention not to compromise on the name. Since then, the community's mods have gone inactive. u/Justincase_2008@lemmy.world has only two posts on the website, and the most recent one is 2 months ago. u/GreatWhiteBuffalo41 has not commented on the site in 22 days, and has not been active on c/twoXchromosomes for 2 months. There have been 4 posts to the community in the time since my post about the community name a month ago. The modlog shows no mod activity in 2 months. I would like to appeal to the admins that I may take over the community, set it to restricted mode, and make the only post on the community a sticky explaining the problems with the name and redirecting to other feminist communities across the Fediverse.

Spoilers for GOTG 3 below: Okay, so when Rocket was dying and he saw Lylla in the entrance to the afterlife, it got really weird for a second when Lylla referenced "The hands that guide the hands that create us". Now, the hands that created Rocket and Lylla are the hands of the High Evolutionary, and Lylla is telling Rocket to embrace an identity beyond him. That makes sense. But whose hands guide the Evolutionary's? God's?? That seems to be the implication, that somehow an otter is a christian. And I say christian instead of religious, because she is clearly referencing the idea of a grand plan that is not present in polytheistic religions, she's talking about god's plan. Or dare I say, she is asking Rocket to be part of "the greatest story ever told" But it was just one odd sentence, so I let myself doubt this was intentional. Maybe the writers put that in there without thinking of the agenda-ness of it because it was just the terms in which they saw the world. Maybe it was an accident, an oversight. So anyway, 10 minutes later the High Evolutionary says "I'm an atheist", and every one of his minions in the room points their guns at him. Animal abuse? No big deal. Eugenics? Been there done that. Destroying a planet full of sentient life? Who cares? You're an atheist!? HOW DARE YOU But okay, maybe that's not what they really meant in the scene. I'm joking with my friends, "Jesus is gonna show up at the end of the movie", and I don't mean it, this is probably where it'll end So anyway, then Chris Pratt dies in space and "ADAM" Warlock shows up, the camera does an obvious reference to The Creation of Adam, and Warlock saves Cris, allowing him to be raised from the dead. Bruh. Jesus actually showed up at the end of the movie

I watch TV while eating, because TV takes my mind off the textures of the food and helps me dissociate from eating. I also have a *very* active imagination and ability to immerse myself in a show Enterprise seems to have characters beaten bloody, covered in soot, drenched in sweat or slime, or poisoned by trellium-D every other episode. It's very hard to watch Enterprise compared to the rest of Star Trek

We live in an age of technological wonder and plenty. One person can today do the work of hundreds in the past, when it comes to agriculture and food production. Despite this, the number of people who genuinely want to perform labour far exceeds that needed to sustain our society at its current level of plenty. The human species has evolved to live and thrive, and it is through the labour of producing food, shelter, and family that human beings live. Therefore it is reasonable to assume that such an organism would have evolved to take great personal pleasure in useful labour. And that is exactly what we see. Put a human being in a useful job, and so long as they can live comfortable and take some ownership of their labour value, they are immensely happy. Put a human being in a useless job, and they are miserable. Under current capitalist conditions it is estimated that 50% of people currently work jobs that provide no benefit to society. And yet our species is still alive. If we were to eliminate capitalism and focus our labour on solely useful pursuits, such as production, education, love, support, logistics, and planning, then we would have far more than we have today. And if we were to do such a thing there would be no requirement that everybody work, just as there is no requirement at our current level of production. The human race can easily, EASILY survive on the labour of just those who wish to work of their own free will. Of those who would get bored sitting around all day. So as to those who actually want to sit around all day - why not let them? To force someone to work is slavery. That is the very definition at its most fundamental. And I for one do not wish to live in a society founded upon mass slavery. Especially not when we have the means to do otherwise. End compulsory work.

I wake up and get dressed in one of the three outfits I own, which is locally crafted with enough quality to last a decade, and only washed when it needs to be I have a breakfast of fruit from the trees outside and locally made bread I pull out my phone, which is the only one I've ever owned and will last my whole life, and talk to my friends over a messaging app that works over a distributed network owned by the whole community There's an alert that the hydro generator at the creek is broken, so I 3D print a part from open designs and go replace it. The old part is put in my plastic-composting bin, which uses genetically engineered bacteria to break down plastic I hop on my bicycle and ride to the local train station. The tracks have moss between them and trees overhead. The trains are powered by a renewable power grid I don't lock up my bike at the rack, because everyone already has a bicycle and there's no point in stealing them, they're free So is the train The city is dense, to reduce its land footprint, and made from sustainable materials. Housing is free There are no cars, and the trees grow everywhere with sound dampening leaves, so it's pleasantly quiet I have some tea at a restaurant, because coffee beans can't be grown locally. It's free I breathe in clean air, and thank my pagan gods that I live in a sensible society
