I disagree, you can see so much on the old layout specifically because it's a wall of text. The new layout is unnecessarily bloated and takes up your whole screen on every device you view it from, so you can barely see more than one or two posts at a time. It removes the ability for the user to freely scroll and look at things that interest them, and forces the user's attention onto exactly what the algorithm wants them to. The new layout removes a ton of agency from the user.

This only hides content locally for Threads users, it doesn't affect visibility from any other fedi platform. It's not that different from a Lemmy instance downvoting a comment to the point of being auto-hidden; it still exists but requires an extra click to see from your instance, and the rest of the fediverse can access it normally.

As somebody in both communities, these people are outliers, by far. I'd say 95% of the randoms I play with in either game are decent folk who aren't trying to ruin other people's fun. Even if the random player is way too underleveled for the mission and picked 4 support weapon strategems not knowing what they are and keeps getting stuck in respawn loops, everybody has been friendly and helpful, because that's the democratic way. Anybody who tries to make the lives of their fellow players miserable is a dirty traitor and will be court-martialed.

Good on them for acknowledging what was a pretty terrible response to player complaints. It's one thing to be firm in your balancing decisions, but it's another thing to demean your players over it.
That said, the responses from a lot of the players were also really over-the-top to begin with. Hopefully Arrowhead is able to remedy this combativeness between the studio and the community. A live service game really only does well when the developers are on the same wavelength as their players.

Even though it may seem disappointing, this was realistically the right call. You know what they say about broken clocks, and all.
They didn't say he couldn't be removed from the ballot, just that it's a federal issue to solve and not a state one. And had they allowed it, that precedent would have been abused almost immediately and been back in the court's review all over again and would have resulted in a ton of dramatic and divisive political theater in the meantime.
Though, it does highlight some significant flaws in our electoral process. There's a lot of conflict between what the states and what the fed should be able to do for elections. The whole system needs to be revamped, IMO. Why each state sets their own rules is baffling to me in the first place; the Presidency affects the entire country, not just the states, so I don't get why we aren't going by nationwide popular vote instead of "California's electors picked Candidate A even though the majority of the voters picked Candidate B, and Iowa voters did a collective Hokey Pokey in a big expo center and decided on Candidate C", etc.

I wonder why they settled
I'd imagine because they charged for access to piracy-specific functions of the tool and knew they couldn't argue a case.
It was a dumb move for them to add functionality for unreleased games in the first place, and an even worse move to charge money for it. It makes it a lot harder to convince a court that your tool is for backup/archival purposes only, when you have features that could only work with pirated materials.

Unfortunately, it still happens even here on Lemmy. I don't think we see it as much because most communities here have far fewer mods than adjacent Reddit subs on average, but occasionally you'll find a mod here who thinks they know better than their community and does whatever they feel like.

I feel like that trope doesn't really ring true these days, as most of the "general purpose" instances are pretty moderate. Back when Lemmy was still just a small handful of instances, that was definitely the case, but I think the wider adoption has balanced things out a bit closer toward center, overall.

I miss what Facebook used to offer in the earlier days. I miss being able to keep up friends and family and having a central place for everybody to just share things. It was nice for a while. It was also just nice having an account where I felt comfortable putting my face and name out there; I know that may seem kinda weird to most people, but there was something weirdly relieving about having one place where I could just say "This is me" without using a screen name and feel right about it. Facebook used to be that place for me.
Then once Facebook started to monetize every pixel on my screen and every post on my feed was just a link to something I couldn't care less about or trying to sell me something or infect me with something else, it became unbearable. The last time I logged into Facebook, I scrolled for probably five whole minutes before I was able to find a single, actual post written by somebody I actually cared about. Everything else was just links, freebooted videos, or algorithmically-boosted content designed to suck my attention away from the thing I actually wanted to look for.
I'd honestly love it if there was a better Facebook-like platform on the Fediverse. Or even not on the Fediverse, just a place where I can actually keep in touch with the people I know instead of just internet strangers. Since ditching Facebook, the internet has definitely felt like a much lonelier place for me.

The sort of "winter fantasy" theme the armor sets all have remind me of something from my childhood that I can't quite place. Sort of Narnia-ish, but not quite. But I feel like there's gotta be a name for this design theme. "Regal Christmas"? I just really dig the art direction for the Dawning stuff. This year's armor is kinda mid, but I put last year's Pruina Luster set back on and it's just so good. Even just the font they used for the Dawning logo in the trailer fits this theme so well. I just wish there was a name for it so I could find more stuff like this. I'm not a very Christmas-sy guy, but something about the Dawning visuals just hits.
I've got a cheap Wohome soundbar from Amazon that I've been using for a while now, and there's no option for this in the PS5's Media Remote settings, so I've had to use two remotes when doing media playback. I was wondering if anybody knew if there's a compatible option in the menu that'd work with this soundbar? I'd love to be able to control the volume without having to switch remotes.

With the way Spez keeps trying to gamify Reddit, it's starting to feel like he's trying to make a super corporate remake of OMGPop/I'm In Like With You, for those who happen to remember that short-lived social/gaming platform. The addition of all sorts of new currencies on Reddit and stupid things to spend them on, and the more interactive things they've been doing like leaning more heavily into /r/place, all make me suspect that they're going to try to make Reddit into a sort of gaming hub with a vague social media aspect to it. I wanted OMGPop to make a comeback, but this isn't how I wanted it. :( [\#reddit](https://kbin.social/tag/reddit)
I feel like the reason [#Mastodon](https://kbin.social/tag/Mastodon), and the [#Fediverse](https://kbin.social/tag/Fediverse) at large, aren't taking off has to do with the fact that they're *actually* social networks. And since [#Facebook](https://kbin.social/tag/Facebook) and every other platform that *used* to be a social network began pivoting toward content promotion, I think society has forgotten what a social network is supposed to actually be anymore. *(E: Grammar.)*

See the quick inspect-element mockup I put together for an example. I'm bad at design, but I think it gets the point across. Current implementation on left, suggested on right. Also, I'm using Kbin Enhancement Suite for the modifications to instance names, but I think they are even more useful for this demonstration. How it could work: If the same link is submitted across multiple communities in your current view (subscribed, favorites, all, etc) within a certain time period (probably 24 hours), then have them automatically group themselves into the same box, along with a brief list of the duplicate threads and instances. Use whichever of the threads has the highest score as the one to fill the title and thumbnail for the grouped thread. I didn't make a mockup for this, but when clicking the thread, it could then import the comments from each of the grouped instances. Options on the sidebar could show you each of the instances whose comments are being shown on that page, along with an option to filter them out of your current feed, and options to add your votes to each instance's thread. EDIT: To add, as I'm seeing some confusion in the comments: I'm envisioning this as a strictly **user-side** bundling of threads. This would only bundle threads as they are displayed to the user in their own feed based on communities you're subscribed to. So if the same link were to be posted to 5 different communities you subscribe to, when *you* view the feed, you'll see those 5 links all bundled together. Though perhaps an option could also include seeing non-subscribed duplicates, as well.

Seriously, I don't know what it is about this super, but it feels absolutely terrible in PVP. There's definitely something wrong with the damage resist, because it doesn't even feel like 0% DR, it feels like *negative* DR sometimes. I can't tell if maybe the animation just makes your hitbox an easier target or if you're actually just getting melted faster in that super, but it makes it pretty damn impossible to actually close the distance to get within killing range on most maps. Even worse if somebody's got Vorpal; you just get deleted before you even realize what hit you. Not to mention the terrible third-person camera you're forced into for this super which makes movement an even bigger chore. I bounce *so many* walls trying to grapple around in this super. Half my super energy is spent on just trying to position myself so that I'm closely-aligned enough on the X axis for the rope dart to even connect with my target. And even then, it's a coin toss whether or not it'll register a kill at all. I've had so many times where the dart 100% pierces the enemy, and it just whiffs. It's just bad in every regard. Meanwhile, Titans have like 5 different options for free OHKO melee abilities that seem to connect from halfway across Eternity sometimes. It really makes me wish that Hunters had an exotic that gave you some sort of bonus for hanging onto your super, like Mantle of Battle Harmony or something, because I feel like I'm throwing every time I pop this super in PVP. If I ever manage to get a kill with this super, I pretty much never make it out alive. It causes me to end up hanging onto my super and not using it in some matches, because why risk feeding the enemy team a free kill when I can *most likely* land more kills without the super? I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for entertaining my rant. Bungie, pls buff, thx.

Mastodon for Twitter/Threads, PixelFed for Instagram, Lemmy for Reddit, Matrix for Discord/Slack... But I can't quite place MissKey.
