While I don't want to say this is a perfect solution, it is a free solution, and one id checkout early, that said I'd still recommend shopping around to see what best meets your needs.

You could get a Gmail account for the business/ website and then register for a free WordPress site. WordPress is both software you can download for self hosting and a website service where they take care of everything (for free or a price. The free version may end up with the website having ads served to viewers and only has limited upload).

As for design, there are a few free as well as paid templates. They can also get your site a domain like yourbusiness.com , but you can get a free subdomain at WordPress like yourbusiness.wordpress.com

If you wanted to go complex, you could self host or hire a virtual computer to host from a cloud provider, but things like making sure software is up to date and security patches applies are up to you. You might already have a server / network attached storage device which could be the server and get the domain linking to it and have your router forward incoming traffic to it, but it depends on how hands on you want to be.

I reckon a Pelican would easily be able to get a skateboard rolling. I'm just now sure the best steps to proceed testing it.

I'd try a skateboard at the top of a hill and see about getting a cockatoo to somehow get the board to roll under it's own propulsion so it can sit back and enjoy a ride down a hill. That'd be the way I'd try if I wanted the bird to do it repeatedly.

My guess is with the protests that some of the top content creators moved away and never came back.

I remember sorting by hot once gave a wide variety of things and now it seems to be more drama posts like AITA posts.

Although it feels like I'm still following an ex, There was one place over there I used to visit a lot and I believe if you took a snapshot of the top ten posts of a random day few years ago and today, they'd be very different. Today's seems to be a group picking up a trend and running with it and before it was more original content. I remember going there because I knew there'd be something new I'd likely laugh at or be amused by and now it feels heavily recycled.

The subscriber count is still way up, but I'd you look at the online/active user count, it feels like its around 10% it was off recent highs.

It felt like the sub had a ship of thecleus moment where it seemed to just be growing, but was also losing people until the group changed but the name was the same.

Someone else said the new reddit gold allows people to receive real money* if people gild their posts (by spending real money) * receiver must be in certain countries.

I saw a post recently on a wholesome memes page where someone tagged repost sleuth bot and someone else commented that todays post was literally a copy of the third top voted post of all time. It was.

I also remember that bot support got affected and this led to a spam detector bot being moved from active development to sunset mode where it was still supported but not actively enhanced.

Edit: my comment isn't about exactly the same thing, but ..

Some new camera tech might be opening a can of worms about whether what's pictured can be taken literally.

There was a story late last year of a woman trying on a wedding dress in front of two mirrors and someone snapped a photo.

When they looked at it, the reflection on the left mirror had a different pose to the reflection on The right mirror.

And this cast doubt on what exactly was going on the moment the shutter was pressed.

It looks like the camera had one of the stitch together the best photo of the people pictured (e.g. don't show shots of people blinking etc) and it treated the mirror images as different people.

You have a point of merging the Senate into the House.

I'm a fan of Australia's federal voting system. We have a house of Representatives where the country is divided into 151 regions by geography of roughly the same number of people. One in Sydney is a few suburbs, the one in the south of northern Territory is almost the whole territory excluding Darwin.

Then there's the Senate, where each State gets to elect twelve(six every 3 years[1]) Senators. Territories (Australian Capital Territory & Northern Territory) elect Two Sentors every election.

Everyone in the state gets a say in who represents them as Senators and allows minor parties to get representation as only 16% of the total vote is needed to get a seat. (The Greens typically get 1-2 of seats in each State)

So for areas with geographic issues get to have a say (rural people vote for the National party who represent farmers interest).

And there's the occasional independent who gets in too and some other minor parties.

The other major difference is we have optional fully preferential voting. You can nominate anyone running in your seat as your first preference on voting day and you give everyone on your ballot a number from 1 to however many. When the Australian Electoral Comission counts the votes if the person you put first is eliminated from the count (they only get 175 votes from the 110,000 who cast a ballot), then your voting slip still counts and your vote transfers to your second choice.

Also we have compulsory* voting here. If you are enrolled, you are required to vote and will get a small fine if you don't. *You might think all politicians are bastards and cast an unfilled ballot paper into the box, but you have had your ability to have a say. I'll also note that people may take the time in the polling booth to draw a penis on their slip which isn't illegal and doesn't invalidate the vote a long as the intention for who is being voted for is clear. There are also prepoll stations and an option to postal vote exists.

We also have a tradition of voters getting a "Democracy Sausage" after voting. It's common that voting stations (elections held on Saturdays) are schools and local clubs have barbecues and sell cakes etc as part of fundraising.

In summary, I like out two house system as the Senate allows minor parties to get representation where they wouldn't otherwise if we just had the House of Representatives. [1] we sometimes have double disillusion elections where the government has the options to call one if they keep passing legislation in the house and the Senate keeps rejecting it and in that case all seats are vacated and the states elect 12 Senators, but it's not normal.

When i did try and get close, they moved away a little and I wasn't trying to pick it up or touch it, i don't think anyone recommends that. If i did, i guess the worst I was have expected was a scratching.

It looks like the front hasn't fallen off.

Edit: context for those not aware - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM . The front section of a oil tanker fell off and it started leaking crude oil into the ocean off perth and it caught fire.

The two actors are comedians who (then) regularly did send ups of politicians in the last few minutes broadcast each week on an otherwise serious news show.

What are some parts of your agreements you consider non-negotiable? Or something you decided to add because you learnt the hard way?

I recently did some freelance work and due to a misunderstanding of what would actually be delivered, I decided to draft up a short but written agreement for future clients. Although a written discussion was had about what was to be done, it appears both parties had different ideas about what would happen. Im largely dealing with a client I get on well with and wanted to keep things simple and the template I've got is:- Event name: Event dates: Overview of services to be be provided onsite: Specific services (if any) : (shots considered essential) Dependencies: Deliverables: (quantity, format , delivery timeline) Copyright: (stay with photographer or rights to be signed over) Post event services: (any editing that may take significant time) Cost and payment schedule: (booking fee, payment milestones) Limitation of Liability: under no circumstances shall I be considered liable for more than the agreed cost of services to be provided. Travel arrangements: (these might be omitted from what is sent to the client but should be considered) Accommodation: Food / Incidentals: Is there anything you would add ? Edit: if it was something I'd consider for use with the general public then I would go through a lot more rigour and probably involve lawyers.

Ive downloaded imagemagick and used the convert program to make them smaller.

    convert -quality 85 input.jpg output.jpg

should make it smaller, the 85 is a % factor which determines how much compression the algorithm uses. 100% is big files with high quality, the default is something like 92% .

    convert -resize 1920x1080 -quality 85 input.jpg output.jpg

also adjusts the resulting image size.

For the image i used, it was 3840*2160 and 3.0 meg. When compressing with 50% quality, the file size was 850kb, when resizing down, it was 250kb,

How much each file size shrinks with % compression will likely depend on what the image is.

There isn't a lot of detail in your question, I'm trying to get a better understanding of what your trying to do as there might be a better tool than ffmpeg to do this. I'm thinking that ImageMagick and it's convert tool could be the best tool for the job.

Is there a specific reason for ffmpeg to be the program to manipulate the files?

Is the compression factor the only thing you want to change?

I have a camera that takes 40003000 pixel images, I'd your looking to reduce the file size, would it be acceptable to also use less pixels? Converting to say 20001500 which would still look great on a full HD screen of 1920*1080 pixels.

I know it's the other side of the planet, but Australia has a Great Race our Supercars compete in every year in October. It's the Bathurst 1000 which is about 2 hours west of Sydney.

It's one of the tracks the Supercars race a which is a public road most of the year so you can drive a lap in a stock car (with 60kph limit).

Mars Rover Perseverance captures a partial eclipse by a moon.

One of the Martian moons travels between the rover and the sun. It's a bit different to my usual posts, and not my OC :). I believe it's Phobos, so there might be doom music kicking in any second now... Source: https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/multimedia/raw-images/ZL7_1056_0760664099_781EBY_N0501254ZCAM01538_1100LMJ

[OC] The Sydney Ferry "Fairlight" passes the Sydney Opera House on the way in to Circular Quay

Sydney has many ferries travelling on its harbour to help move people around, some are smaller and have a shallow draft like the Rivercats that travel between Circular Quay and Paramatta and there are several other ferry classes painted in Green and Gold. Note: Image uploaded at 1921x1080 pixels. In some of my other posts in other communities, some people said the images were small, and it looks like Lemmy creates thumbnails as .webp files and some of these may be shown. I'm using the default theme and have to click on the image to get it to show the full resolution image.

[OC] The sydney ferry "Borrowdale" travels across the harbour at sunset.

Sydney has several different types of ferries, the larger ones travel to Manly (highly recommended) and the smaller ones travel around the harbours various wharves. There's also the rivercats which travel up the river to Paramatta.

Galahs are similar to Cockatoos in that you'll commonly find them around suburbs and near parks where they'll fly down and eat seeds from the grass in groups. They'll keep an eye out and fly off if anything gets too near. Eastern Sydney, taken from near the CBD [3518x1695]

Im not sure this qualifies as a ultrawide wallpaper, but it should be close. This was taken on a camera using its in camera photo stitch feature to create ultra wide shots. I cant remember if two or three shots were taken, What are typical resolutions or aspects of ultrawide monitors so i can tailor future postings ? Thanks.

I came across an issue where i couldn't recursively add files in Darktable 4.6, (issue is known and has been fixed in latest nightly build)

If you're considering upgrading to 4.6 and recursively importing is important to you, you might want to hold off. I recently wanted to import a whole lot of files and saw it presented the files when recursively import was ticked, but when i clicked on Import files , the interface said X files imported instantly and no files were imported. I know there's a formal bug reporting framework, and I'm not posting this to somehow get the issue fixed, it appears to have been recognised earlier and now fixed in the nightly builds. (I built 4.6, and since built todays/yesterdays). The purpose of this post isn't a dig at the developers, but to warn anyone who might be considering an upgrade. If i knew it was an issue, i'd have deferred upgrading. (Some time was spent fault finding as i was accessing files for the first time from a NAS) I understand that there is likely going to be a 4.6.1 released about a month or two after 4.6, so it should be soon.
