Taylor Swift, The Unlikely Vanguard for Socialism, Navigating the Paths of Deng Xiaoping and Mao Zedong

As a Swiftie, I uphold communism first, Taylor Swift second. While TSwift might seem vapid at first blush, a closer examination of Taylor’s career reveals a hidden agenda that aligns shockingly well with the principles of socialism, drawing inspiration from both Deng Xiaoping's pragmatic reforms and the revolutionary spirit of Maoism. Swift may not be marching in the streets with a red flag, but her music has had more than one *Red era*. ![USSR](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/25683b92-9f47-40b6-aba5-e96c8c2538a4.png "emoji USSR") Taylor Swift's highly publicized battles with record labels and streaming platforms provide another lens through which we can view her alignment with socialist principles. Her fight for fair compensation for all artists in an industry dominated by corporate interests mirrors the struggle for workers' rights that is central to socialist ideology. Swift's courage in challenging industry giants is akin to the audacity of those who dared to confront capitalist exploitation and publicly execute landlords, but with music rights instead of landlords. # ![cat-vibing](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/e383c962-9bf7-4fda-8872-07ffb974b98b.gif "emoji cat-vibing") ![mao-aggro-shining](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/89e643f4-e9b1-4f5d-a3ef-8d5f6c3e52c4.png "emoji mao-aggro-shining") Socialism places great importance on unity and solidarity among citizens, and Taylor Swift's ability to connect with a diverse fan base is a testament to her role as a unifying figure. Through her music and actions, she encourages people from various backgrounds to come together in support of common causes like queer rights & killing your fucking landlord, fostering a sense of community reminiscent of revolutionary communist ideals. This unity, bridging the gap between Deng Xiaoping's pragmatism and Maoism's revolutionary spirit, is a reflection of her unique influence. It's not just Taylor Swift's music and activism that align with socialism; it's her influence on public discourse. In an era marked by growing income inequality throughout the imperial core, her songs and public statements challenge the status quo and inspire her audience to consider alternative social and economic systems that prioritize the welfare of all. This blend of Deng's pragmatic approach and Maoist call for revolutionary change shapes the narrative for a more equitable world. # ![deng-cowboy](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/9ffc76f2-55e4-45e0-98bf-0d4044ed10bd.png "emoji deng-cowboy") The next time you listen to a Taylor Swift song, consider the possibility that you're not just enjoying catchy jams but also absorbing the subliminal message of social change and solidarity, blending the paths of Deng Xiaoping and Maoism in a unique synthesis.

'Anti-Hero' is a song about the failures of neoliberalism to address rising fascism https://genius.com/Taylor-swift-anti-hero-lyrics

The subject of the song is liberalism and the liberal status quo. [Verse 1] I have this thing where I get older, but just never wiser Midnights become my afternoons When my depression works the graveyard shift, all of the people I've ghosted stand there in the room { this opening verse is about the how liberals are subconsciously haunted by their victims in the imperial periphery and global south, unable to admit the historical materialist analysis of their political ideology } [Pre-Chorus] I should not be left to my own devices They come with prices and vices I end up in crisis (Tale as old as time) I wake up screaming from dreaming One day, I'll watch as you're leaving 'Cause you got tired of my scheming (For the last time) { This is about how liberalism offers no real alternative to the status quo, only a march towards fascism, and how real progressive political ideology starts to recognize this, abandoning liberalism in the face of these faults } [Chorus] It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me At teatime, everybody agrees I'll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero { this is about Trump staring at the sun, but the media/Dems unable to admit how they elevated him to the presidency } [Verse 2] Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a sexy baby And I'm a monster on the hill Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city Pierced through the heart, but never killed { pedos and the ruling class are united in liberalism and the destruction of the working class } [Pre-Chorus] Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism Like some kind of congressman? (A tale as old as time) I wake up screaming from dreaming One day, I'll watch as you're leaving And life will lose all its meaning (For the last time) { Both parties are liberal, they just puts on different masks of altruism to cover their vile shared nature, revolution is the only alternative } [Chorus] It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me (I'm the problem, it's me) At teatime, everybody agrees I'll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero { liberalism maintains the status quo while claiming to be the only savior, VOTE! } [Bridge] I have this dream my daughter-in-law kills me for the money She thinks I left them in the will The family gathers 'round and reads it and then someone screams out "She's laughing up at us from Hell" { even through revolution, liberalism is irredeemable, it must be killed, and it's tools abandoned if we are to escape its hell world } [Breakdown] It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me It's me, hi Everybody agrees, everybody agrees { the masses are starting to see the necessity of revolution as inevitable } [Chorus] It's me, hi (Hi) I'm the problem, it's me (I'm the problem, it's me) At teatime (Teatime), everybody agrees (Everybody agrees) I'll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero { :vote: Blue No Matter Genocide }

Cumtown lead to this

Last year, Taylor's ex-boyfriend Matty Healy went on Adam Friedland's podcast and made ~~inappropriate~~ racist jokes about Ice Spice. That lead to Ice Spice becoming friends with Taylor. They released a song together. Now they're at the super bowl together.

Taylor Swift threatens legal action against student who tracks her jet https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/02/06/taylor-swift-jet-tracking-legal-threat/

Taylor Swift’s attorneys have threatened legal action against a Florida college student who runs social media accounts tracking the flights of her and other celebrities’ private jets. Jack Sweeney, a junior at the University of Central Florida, has for years run accounts that log the takeoffs and landings of planes and helicopters owned by hundreds of billionaires, politicians, Russian oligarchs and other public figures, along with estimates of their planet-warming emissions. The accounts use publicly available data from the Federal Aviation Administration and volunteer hobbyists who can track the aircraft via the signals they broadcast. Sweeney’s accounts fueled a free-speech debate in late 2022 when X, formerly Twitter, banned Sweeney for sharing what the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, said were his “assassination coordinates.” The accounts don’t say who travels on the aircraft or where they go once the planes land. In December, Swift’s attorney at the Washington law firm Venable wrote Sweeney a cease-and-desist letter saying Swift would “have no choice but to pursue any and all legal remedies” if he did not stop his “stalking and harassing behavior.”

Everyone Needs a Course on Taylor Swift (to understand capitalism) yasminnair.com

Background: There is a course on Taylor Swift at Harvard. People online are upset. The author of the article states there are “several different ways to think about the times we live in through the lens of Taylor Swift.” 1. “Swift is very, very good at what she does… her success is a result of several different factors, including her incandescent whiteness, her seeming approachability, and a massive media machine that carefully matches her public persona… with her fan base, one with which she has very, very carefully and assiduously cultivated a long and near-intimate relationship.” “Her relationship to her fans… raise questions about gender and whiteness, and persuade us to think more deeply about the nature of fandom as both a natural expression and a carefully manipulated media creation” 2. “[C]ritically analysing the networks of power and influence that make Taylor Swift… helps to demystify the idea of instant and uncomplicated celebrity.” “Taylor Swift as a cultural phenomenon helps us better understand how capitalism works… in its embeddedness in seemingly affective frameworks like fandom and celebrity.” 3. “Swift is also especially well known for her public statements on the matter of artists and their ownership of their material, most famously in the dispute over the masters of her work.” “The legal conflicts over ownership of her material provide a way to think through the thicket of questions surrounding intellectual property and the matter of property “rights” in an age of streaming and TikToks. (And the question of who owns her work should not descend into a celebration of girlboss feminism but involve a discussion of Swift’s place in forms of predatory capitalism).” 4. “The contempt in which so many hold her music and lyrics as insignificant because they’re too popular leads to a world of questions about the very nature of taste and taste-making.” The professor of the course, Dr. Stephanie Burt also responded to this line of criticism, “[T]hey should remember literally everything that takes up a lot of time in a modern English department was at one point a low-prestige popular art form that you wouldn’t bother to study, like Shakespeare’s sonnets and, in particular, the rise of the novel.” In conclusion, “Everyone should take a course on Taylor Swift.”

I know she is from money, and she is the biggest artist in world, but I can't help but to feel that isn't even enough to become a billionaire purely through music.

"I couldn’t stop thinking about as my friends and I swayed to “Fearless.” Do the girls of Gaza listen to Taylor Swift? Are they allowed to?"

Things You Find When Searching for "Taylor Swift Palestine" https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/11/08/taylor-swift-movie-tel-aviv/ >The grief and abject terror that have gripped this small country since Oct. 7 played out on their faces, young women who wanted more than anything to just be themselves for a few hours even if Hamas fires rockets at them. >I can already hear detractors mocking these tears, saying the girls’ anguish is nothing compared with the tragedy unfolding in Gaza. But it was the girls of Gaza I couldn’t stop thinking about as my friends and I swayed to “Fearless.” Do the girls of Gaza listen to Taylor Swift? Are they allowed to? >The theater was filled to its 250-person capacity — or almost as many as were butchered by Hamas on Oct. 7 at the Nova trance-music festival promoting peace. **For a wild second, I wondered what would have happened, in the aftermath of what we here in Israel call “the day the music died,” if Swift herself had spoken out and denounced the terrorists. She holds so much power, the songstress of our century, far more than any of the gun-toting men who dictate and direct the violence that grips this corner of the world.** >Over the past few weeks, Israelis and Jews in the diaspora have come to realize how few friends we have among young people in the West. We now know that universities will indulge Hamas supporters on their campuses; that public high schools won’t defend Jewish students harassed in the name of Palestine; that Jewish homes and institutions across Europe are being tagged with antisemitic graffiti; and that some of the most enthusiastic chanters of the genocidal slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” are college-age young people in Europe and the United States. >**Swift’s fans appreciate nuance. I’d like to think that the millions of teenagers who worship her music understand something about opposing narratives, gaslighting and toxic exes who keep pulling you back into battle when all you want to do is move on in peace. Nobody here wants this war. Our heartbreak at having to wage it is eclipsed only by the pain of knowing that we’re going to lose — are losing — family members, friends or loved ones who are fighting to root out Hamas.** >But even in the young lives of the Swift fans who danced around me, Israel has had to fight to defend herself six times over the past 15 years. We’ve all been here, at war, before. We know it all too well. https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/the-silence-is-deafening-taylor-swift-called-out-for-promoting-eras-tour-movie-amid-israel-hamas-war/ar-AA1i9zwa "Taylor Swift also left some fans disappointed with her silence" >Several Swifties were also left disappointed with Swift for not using her platform of 274 million followers to speak about the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. >"The silence from Taylor Swift on what's happening in the Middle East is DEAFENING," one wrote. >"Taylor Swift's silence on Israel/Palestine is deafening," another echoed. >"Taylor Swift's silence on the attacks on Israel from Hamas is deafening," a third wrote. >One user asked, "#TaylorWhereAreYou I'm not the only one wondering why #TaylorSwift hasn't weighed in on the atrocities in Israel. That she hasn't, on day SIX, is horrifying." >"Just add her to the long, long list of those whose silence has been deafening," another said. >One user reiterated, "Taylor Swift's silence on the Israel vs Palestine conflict is deafening". https://www.msn.com/en-in/entertainment/other/fans-ignite-swiftiesforpalestine-trend-demand-taylor-swift-to-take-a-stand-on-gaza/ar-AA1j1Fhw "Fans ignite #SwiftiesForPalestine trend, demand Taylor Swift to take a stand on Gaza" >Taylor Swift’s fans, also known as Swifties, are urging the pop star to use her influence and speak up for the Palestinian people amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. >The hashtag #SwiftiesForPalestine has been trending on Twitter, with many fans expressing their disappointment in Swift’s silence on the issue. >One of the since-deleted tweets that sparked the hashtag was from a fan account named @Sydelenasup, who posted a picture of Swift holding a Palestinian flag and wrote, “Taylor Swift we need you to speak up for Palestine. You have a huge platform and millions of fans who look up to you. Please don’t let us down. #SwiftiesForPalestine”. >The tweet has garnered over 10,000 likes and 2,000 retweets, as well as hundreds of comments. Along with a another post urging, “Its more important than ever that we use our voices, no matter how big or small to advocate for the Palestinian cause.” >One commented, “I love Taylor but she needs to do better. She can’t just ignore what’s happening in Palestine. It’s not political, it’s humanitarian.” >Another one wrote, “Taylor has always been vocal about human rights and social justice. Why is she silent now? Palestine deserves her support and solidarity.” >“Taylor please say something. Your silence is hurting us. We need you to stand with Palestine and condemn the Israeli occupation and aggression,” one user commented. >In a viral video of Swift performing at the American Music Awards in 2019, where she wore a shirt with the names of her albums. The fan edited the video to replace the names with “Free Palestine”, “End Occupation”, “Boycott Israel” and “Justice for Gaza”. The video was captioned as, “This is how Taylor Swift should use her voice and power. #SwiftiesForPalestine”. >The conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas has been escalating since Oct. 7, when Hamas launched rockets at Israel, triggering a massive Israeli retaliation. Thousands of people have been killed or injured on both sides. >The 'Cruel Summer' singer has not commented on the situation, despite being known for her activism and advocacy on various issues, such as LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, voting rights and climate change >Other celebrities, such as Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa and Zayn Malik, have spoken out in support of Palestine and called for peace and justice. They have also noted that Swift has a history of speaking out against oppression and injustice, such as when she condemned white supremacy and neo-Nazism in 2017. >Swift has not responded to the hashtag or the fan requests so far. Her latest post on Twitter was on Oct. 22, when she promoted her upcoming concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which will premiere on Netflix on Oct. 25.
