Avoiding the madison.com paywall

Madison.com suffers from a bad ad problem. Even if you pay to subscribe, and you should, the site's ads are intrusive, ranging from flashy app store games to pop-ups and even reports of malicious javascripts embedded within ad iframes. If you block the ads, the paywall pops up and yells at you for doing so, *even though you are a paying subscriber and should NOT be subjected to abusive, intrusive, obtusive ads*. Lee Enterprises doesn't get it, so let this guide serve as your instruction manual for allowing madison.com paid-for content without the visual cancer. So, how do you get 'round the ad-block and get yo' fix o' Rickerts? Step 0. Determine which web browser you are using. If it looks like a beachball of sorts, it's [Chrome](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm). If it's a orange circle with a purplish center, that's a [Firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) (or Foxfire as some of my clients call it. I don't correct them I liken it to a toddler who says 'pa-sketti' instead of 'spaghetti'. It's cute, 'til it's not). If it has a blue-green swirl to it in the vague shape of an e, you are using [Edge](https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/ublock-origin/odfafepnkmbhccpbejgmiehpchacaeak), and I will probably have to go really, really slow for you. Step 1. Click on the link of your browser above. If yours is listed, you're likely already reading the next step after having installed the uBlock Origin add-in/extension/plug-in. If your browser isn't listed above, Google {name of web browser} and "ublock origin". Follow the steps to install the add-in/plug-in/extansion-on/brwoser-extensible-store-app Step 2. Open the uBlock Origin Dashboard: ![](https://lemmy.fan/pictrs/image/b2ea0418-f113-4596-ad63-d25254bf7f2f.png) Step 3. Add the filter **https://madison.com/tncms/access/** to a blank line: ![](https://lemmy.fan/pictrs/image/0e0eecee-2d9d-4100-b354-f7f29c22b2a7.png) Step 4: Enjoy your ad-free subscription.

Wisconsin Republican proposal to legalize medical marijuana coming in January apnews.com

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/9823379 > Wisconsin Republicans plan to unveil a proposal soon to legalize medical marijuana in the state and could vote on it sometime in 2024, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said. > > Republicans have been working behind closed doors for years on a medical marijuana bill. Along the way, they have rejected calls from Gov. Tony Evers and other Democrats to legalize all uses of marijuana, including medical and recreational. > > Vos, in an interview Wednesday, said the proposal will be limited and modeled after the medical marijuana law that had been in place in neighboring Minnesota before it moved to full legalization. > > “It is not going to be widespread,” he said. “We are not going to have dispensaries on every corner in every city.”
