"Those layoffs included Lightyear director Angus MacLane, as well as Galyn Susman, the producer who became famous for saving Toy Story 2 after it was accidentally deleted from Disney’s servers."
Fuck that's cold, they fired the person that was essentially responsible for saving Pixar at the time. Way to show gratitude.

Jesus Fucking Christ, this fucking company can pay 13 billion and it still will not do a dent on their TRILLION dollars value. Imagine all that society could benefit if those fucking assholes just paid their share, instead of us having to hear how green and socially conscious these bastards are.
Tech companies are the most disgusting corporations in their sheer greed, right up there with oil corps.

Oh for fucks sake, auto categorization is one of the thing I dreaded the most on iOS because it's almost always incorrect and it doesn't fit my usage at all. Hopefully it will be possible to disable this crap.

I still use version 7 of Nova, it's the only launcher in the market that knows how to handle icons. Any other is frankly a disaster, they can't make them look good at all.

Adobe Creative Cloud, which despite the name is pretty much local. And although Microsoft Office works online, it has a series of issues that the desktop version doesn't have, like broken formatting on Word.

The thing that irks me the most is that those things work. They'll see a little complain from the most vocal ones, and that's it. The revenue will increase, their shareholders will be pleased, the OS will be worse, and we'll have no viable alternative.
Unless governments start to regulate the hell out of tech companies, it's only downhill from there.
Edit: about Linux, it's not viable if you're outside IT or rely on commercial software. That's a debate for another post.

Hear me out: if someone believes in horoscopes, they know what each sign mean. Which means they recognise themselves into a sign. Which means they will mostly act in ways to conform to that sign, giving you a way to figure that person out. The sign tells it all, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We'll have a battery that will be thousands of times more energy dense that what we have today. The tech industry will make those the size of a rice grain so we can have thinner products and the exact same battery life of electronics today. 😑

It looks like a chicken and egg problem: you don't have commercial software available on Linux so people won't use it, so you don't have enough user base to justify the development of Linux versions. This won't be solved unless a big company like Valve decides that Linux is the way and start solving basic issues like usability and installation of apps.

Yes, I am being a jerk because GIMP gets routinely thrown around as a Photoshop alternative, which is not. You say I cherry picked a user base, but who are the people that actually pays to use Adobe Cloud? I assure you that they are mostly professionals, because the subscription is expensive.
Now, the "many people" don't need Photoshop. In fact, there's no reason they should even install it. But people say "Photoshop" and hear "GIMP" as alternative, and this should stop because the app is objectively bad. There's Krita, there's Photopea, there's Darkroom, there's myPaint, there's even Inkscape. Anything is light years ahead that thing, yet it's recommended again and again like a sad joke made to inflict pain on its users.
GIMP is not a good tool. Stop using, stop recommending it.

You know what's funny? I dream of a form factor like the Nintendo Switch: fully plastic, even the screen, so I could put a high quality glass screen protector like the one I have on the console. The thing is a tank, surviving many falls without a single damage, and I had to swap the protector once in all these years I have it.

I dont know, I'm pretty happy with my S22 running OneUI 6.1 and it feels really fast. Also, the native apps like Health, Notes, Mail and Calendar are really good, and I don't use Browser because it doesn't have a desktop app to share bookmarks like Firefox.

Yeah, say that to professionals whose workflow rely on the thight integration and features of Adobe's software. I'm sure migration to a piece of crap software with a S&M name that can't even do CMYK will work great.
Affinity is a good alternative still, at least until Canvas implement the subscription model (which I still believe they will do).

Can someone recommend songs about going to life alone and feeling good about it? There's too much depressing stuff about loneliness around. All I have on my playlist for now is: Whitesnake - Here I go again Morrissey - I'm OK by myself Jimi Hendrix - Stone Free The Beaches - Me & me

I was looking around for some GPS equipment for my motorcycle and came across some dirt cheap (in comparison) cycling computers with GPS tracking. This got me wondering, has anyone tried it? Since I don't need nor want all that fancy stuff like tracking, consumption, points of interest, etc, and just want a map, a route and something to show the way, would that be a good idea?
It's not that I can't. The problem is that when I'm with someone, I deeply yearn to be alone. I'd love to have my life for myself, with no responsibility with no one else - just me. But then, when I'm alone, I feel like a failure, like I need a relationship to *feel complete*, and I fucking hate that. So I end up in another relationship, and after two years I can't stand it anymore, and the cycle repeats. What the hell. Has anyone suffered from something like that? How can you be alone and not feel *lonely*? How to kill this need to be with someone? EDIT: Thanks for all the answers, I'm taking every single one into consideration. Please, keep them coming.
It's upside-down world here, people. Downvoted away, that is the true hallmark of an unpopular opinion.
Let's say that I have this one movie that is finished that I spent 80 million to make. I decided to "write it off". So when I get to pay my taxes, do I get a 80 million discount?

Pretty much the question. I heard about Usenet a while back but never managed to wrap my head around it.
In the last 5 to 10 years everything seems to suck: product's and services quality plummeted, everything from homes to cars to food became really expensive, technology stopped to help us to be something designed to f@ck with us and our money, nobody seems to be able to hold a job anymore, everyone is broke. Life seems worse in general. Why? Did COVID made this happen? How?
So far I found that l/motorcycles is the biggest and most active on lemmy.world, is there any other that my search couldn't find?
A feature that seems missing from all lemmy apps is a way to browse instances I’m not signed. Say I’m at lemmy.ml and find a post I like from lemmy.world. I’d like to see what else lemmy.world has to offer, so listing the communities there would be awesome. To me that’s the worst part of the fediverse, not being able to browser neighbors communities. This feature would bridge this gap and make using the fediverse more pleasurable.
So, I’ve trying installing Memmy via TestFlight but it looks like there’s no spots. Does anyone have an invite code? Thanks in advance.
