A lot of money has been spend to get through traffic out of town centers.

So, if the only thing you're looking for is a video hosting solution, then, yes, PeerTube might be an alternative. In the same way uploading videos to your own webspace would be, and Vimeo also still exists.

But for all the other stuff, YT is, unfortunately, unmatched, and probably will be for a while ...

For whatever reason, many of the editors mentioned here never worked for me ... like OpenShot, ShotCut or PiTiVi were really unstable the last time I tried (might be a distro or DE thing). Also I found it hard to cut precisely when they worked. Lightworks, Da Vinci, Cinelerra, I had a hard time getting them to run. Maybe that changed in the meantime.

I ultimately stuck with Kdenlive, which is stable enough and allows for reasonably precise cutting.

Hmm I get your point, but on the other hand, I suppose nowadays many people are just used to look for a niche community ... and finding it. So it's not a huge surprise if the first reaction is disappointment when you don't find anything like it or just an empty community.

Ja, denke mir auch oft das "sich Sorgen machen" wohl die grösste gesundheitliche Gefahr darstellt. Leider eine jener Dinge, die man schwer loswird.

Naja, im Haus kann ich die Fenster zumachen und die Luftfilter anschmeissen, das hält die Feinstaubbelastung niedriger.

Ansonsten belastet der Feinstaub bei Anstrengung halt stärker, und um aus der Stadt rauszukommen muss ich erstmal 'nen Berg rauf. Insgesamt sind die positiven Effekte wahrscheinlich trotzdem noch grösser, wie ein anderer Kommentator anmerkte. Aber ich merke schon gelegentlich den Unterschied in den Lungen.

Leider zieht die die schlechte Luft ziemlich tief in's Land ... aber ja, hab auch schon öfters darüber nachgedacht ... wenn mich irgendwann etwas hier wegtreibt, ist's wahrscheinlich die schlechte Luft.

Hab' mir nun sowohl OpenTracks+OSM Dashboard und FitoTrack angeschaut.

Meine subjektiven Eindrücke:

FitoTrack:

• hat die bessere Karten-Integration
• Kalorienverbrauch-Zähler ist wahrscheinlich eher mit Vorsicht zu genießen, aber trotzdem irgendwie cool ..
• Manche Diagramme find' ich nicht so hilfreich (z.B. das Geschwindigkeits-Histogramm).

OpenTracks + OSM Dashboard:

• Statistiken sind übersichtlicher gestaltet (i.e. die kombinierten Geschwindigkeits/Höhenmeter Diagramme)
• etwas ansprechendere UI

Sonstiges:

Ein Nachteil an FitoTracks (der wohl in der nächsten Version behoben wird, das Ticket ist schon geschlossen) ist zudem, das Pausenzeiten aus importierten GPX-Dateien, z.B. von WikiLoc, nicht beachtet werden, was wiederum Auswirkungen auf die durchschnittliche Geschwindigkeit hat.

Bei beiden würde ich mir wünschen, das man "Glitches" besser ausbügeln könnte (i.e. hab' ich eine Tour von WikiLoc importiert, und die maximale Geschwindigkeit wird als 106Km/h angezeigt ... die hab ich ganz gewiss nicht erreicht :D )

Insgesamt beides sehr coole Apps, mal schaun' welche ich langfristig nutzen werde ...

Hehe, not just South American, it's pretty common in Spain, with a variety of spirits ... I've seen people using Cognac, Anise ... all kinds really, some more controversial than others.

Wenn man dann in DE ist und sagt "mit Karte bitte", klappt's auf einmal nicht weil nur EC-Karten akzeptiert werden. Irgendwie nervig.

I really wish Barcelona would follow this example ... it's not that hard to stay clear of the tourists if you avoid the Ramblas, but the pollution spreads through the air and it really does some damage. Supposedly it's not even like this type of tourism brings in a lot of money ...

Ja, der Preis ist eine Sache ... die umständliche Buchung die andere. Da muss man sich dann auch schonmal durch 3 Webseiten in 3 Sprachen wühlen, und das ganze kann einige Stunden Zeit und Mühe kosten.

Die nächste Sache ist Flexibilität. Wenn man eine längere Strecke (z.B. Barcelona->Köln oder umgekehrt) an einem Tag schaffen will, ist man schon ziemlich eingeschränkt.

Ansonsten kann man noch eine Nacht in Paris oder anderswo einplanen, die dann wiederum zu Buche schlägt, oder sich anders die Nacht um die Ohren schlagen, was anstrengend sein kann. Überhaupt, Paris ... immer quer durch die Stadt zu müssen, stinkt auch irgendwie, wenn man 'nen Zeitplan hat, egal ob ober- oder unterirdisch.

Und zu guter Letzt, viele klagen immer wie unangenehm der Flughafen mit seinen Sicherheitskontrollen sei, aber das relativiert sich schnell wenn man mal 30h mit extrem wenig Schlaf auf dem Landweg quer durch Europa treckt. Selbst wenn man das Glück hat, im Zug 'nen guten Platz zu ergattern, der einem das Arbeiten am Laptop ermöglicht ... unterwegs sein schlaucht schon irgendwie, auf die ein oder andere Weise.

Quelle: War das letzte Jahr viel auf dem Landweg durch Europa unterwegs, weniger touristisch sondern eher mit bestimmten Zielen, daher auch mit einem Zeitplan, den ich mir nicht immer selber aussuchen konnte ... alles in allem macht es schon Spass und kann ein nettes Abenteuer sein, aber oft ist es auch einfach sehr anstrengend.

Mehr Verbindungen und bessere Anbindungen, einfache, zentrale Buchung, mehr Nachtzüge mit Schlafwagen, besserer Aufenthalt and Bahnhöfen, bequemere Sitze ... alles Massnahmen die neben günstigeren Preisen das Zugreisen in Europa schöner machen würden.

Hmm live benutze ich keine DAW (bin als Livecoder unterwegs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_coding), aber zum Aufnehmen und Bearbeiten nutze ich meistens Ardour (gibt's auch auf Windows). Ansonsten laufen auch Reaper und BitWig under Linux. Reaper nutze ich manchmal, mit BitWig kennen ich mich weniger aus ... soll aber Ableton ganz ähnlich sein.

Hab seit langem Arch als "daily driver", privat und auf der Arbeit. Kommt meinen Minimalismus-Neigungen am ehesten entgegen. Das meiste ist opt-in statt opt-out. Minimaler WM, keine Desktop-Metapher, kein grafischer Datei-Manager, usw., alles kein Problem.

Ab und zu gibt es mal Probleme mit Updates oder anderen Dingen, keine Frage, aber zumindest scheint es mir nicht schlimmer als mit anderen Distros oder Betriebssystemen. Meine Freunde und Kollegen (egal ob Mac oder Windows) laufen auch nicht selten in irgendwelche Probleme, die sie manchmal für 1-2 Tage ausser Gefecht setzen.

Ich nutze meinen Laptop für Computermusik live auf der Bühne, und während Mac-User oft 'ne "bloss nicht neu starten, bloss nichts ändern" Philosophie haben, lasse ich nicht selten 'n paar Stunden vor 'nem Gig 'n Systemupdate laufen, und hatte damit eigentlich nie Probleme.

Vielleicht ist meine Intuition einfach geschärft über die Jahre, das ich die Probleme meistens intuitiv umschiffe? Ich weiss es nicht ...

Ist's das richtige für jeden? Gewiss nicht, ich verstehe schon gut warum viele Leute auf diese Art von Computerminimalismus keinen Bock haben, und bin mir auch bewusst das es Erfahrung braucht, um so zu Arbeiten. Bei mir hat es sich allerdings inzwischen so ins Hirn eingebrannt, das ich alles andere als überladen und umständlich empfinde ...

I think it will ... if I look at my own use-cases for sites like this, it's connecting with people over shared interests (rather than instances) or scrolling memes. I don't see how any of these use cases benefit from federation (from the user perspective). The looming threat of information disappearing due to defederation, the confusion about instances, etc ... that's off-putting even to tech-savvy users.

Also ultimately I find it questionable from a philosophical perspective. Why should it matter which instance is your "home" instance, unless that's specifically the way of interaction you're looking for?

Again, for me it's interests over instances, and I think the federation aspect is just an additional layer that doesn't add any value.
