linux Linux What is the most painless and minimal way to dual boot these days?

I use a Windows VM (Tiny10 works ok here) in whatever lightweight linux OS I'm fucking with at the time. All my files and stuff are on a local server so I can swap distros easily if I want.

Usually it runs ok, can game, and I dont have to deal with restarting a bunch of stuff. I've been using CachyOS, not sure if I like it yet

for me i will likely play some games or use proprietary apps in windows or something and swap back to linux. i also develop for linux sometimes so being able to swap distros quickly and with good efficiency while being able to share files easily would be nice.

i dont know how viable qubes is for this use case. i like the concept of privacy but i dont need 100% lockdown for each app.

i hate dual booting with a passion, and i also hate how much my base OS interferes with the operation of a virtualized os.

i have a ibm laptop with a really old ssd running and the health of everything looks very good. i never wrote a whole lot to the ssd, i feel like this computer could last 30 years or more without going fully obsolete. its just a basic laptop with not very good hardware that i use for looking up information during a tabletop game, read a pdf, or to browse the internet. sometimes i message people on it. perfect for my use case, and probably will never need anything more than this. it always has to be plugged in because the battery sucks now, but its lightweight and portable so its not a big deal.

Privacy benefits aside, does qubes run better than a typical vm like virtualbox? I tend to fiddle with distros a lot and I feel qubes might be a good choice, though I'm wondering about how efficient it is

As such blahaj.zone is not an inclusive space and is fundamentally only for white people of a liberal bent, the only place I can recommend as accepting and inclusive and has a large trans community is hexbear.

Also, to be frank, most of their community is /c/196. Trans people feel like a minority there.

'Apolitical' just means liberal and too accepting of transphobes, racists, and chasers and is a prime issue with this instance even.

Nutomic is still a site admin, nothings been done. I fully suggest if you want a more safe and secure place for trans people to move to hexbear. They have a lot of very friendly and inclusive trans people there and are very active and have something like 50 trans mods/admins. You can browse their comms from lemmy.ml if you want to take a look at them

I would ban him from here but to do that he has to make a post so 🤷‍♀️. Lemmy.ml admin team is 100% a boys club and its why this instance is so bad. I personally use lemmy.ml to check on trans spaces across the fediverse, I feel like thats the only use case its good for.

New rule: if you support transgender people or are trans, please change your username (if your instance allows it) to include your preferred pronouns

If you have no preferred pronouns, just say (none) or something This will help make people feel more comfortable in this comm and has a side effect of showing you support trans people when making comments in other communities. It will also make reactionaries seethe and make it easier for mods to purge them, and make trans people feel safer all over the fediverse.

Hello, if you are transgender and socialist, please make an application below. We have lax requirements, I'm basically hoping to copy the success of Hexbear's trans community. Basic ideas of modding this space: * Rule with an iron fist. This is meant to be a safe place for transgender people. If someone is making that not happen / is fucking the vibes, they should be gone. * Purge transphobes on sight * No leftist infighting. Anarchists and communists can be friends * Suggest to cis and trans people that they change their username to include pronouns so no one misgenders them

Are there any maps apps that rip data from Google Maps?

I want to ungoogle myself as much as possible, but I've found that Google Maps is by far the best dataset for maps. I can search 'fast food' and it'll pull up anything related to that near me. I've tried things like OrganicMaps, and while it is blazing fast and very private in comparison to Google Maps, it unfortunately does not have the best information. Are there any apps that are kind of like a proxy/nitter like frontend for Google Maps and it respects privacy? Are there any ways to just straight up rip data from Google Maps and pull it into another app?
