I'm not arguing that fighting religion with religion is a bad idea - I'm saying they're not very good at it. The last time I checked they'd won 3 rulings out of a possible 32. That's across all cases, not just abortion. In the meantime, religious groups that are not inept are winning cases. And the more headlines TST generate, the more posts like this one pop up across all forms of social media and the less attention people pay to legitimate groups that actually can - and do make a difference.
I would urge you to look further into the histories of the owners of TST, one of who wanted to launch TST by publishing a sequel to Might Is Right a protofascist screed that Anton LaVey cribbed from for the Church of Satan.
I also don't think they're entirely about taking people's money. But they sure do do a lot of that and no one seems to know exactly where that money goes.

Which would be fine if they were actually effective at anything besides trying to get money from people. They've lost every abortion related legal action they've started so far.
By contrast, a religious group (the so-called 'Hoosier Jews for Choice') that aren't inept and can actually be effective and aren't more interested in your bank balance than your politics secured a landmark ruling for abortion rights in April this year.
TST''s finances are utterly opaque - only their two owners (because it is a business) know what comes in and what goes out and they aren't telling. There are much better groups to donate both time, effort and money to instead of some very dodgy group with a worrying reputation.

TST's abortion campaign - which is strongly opposed by multiple pro-abortion support groups in multiple States - is a classic example of how they operate.
Not only are they depriving legitimate pro-abortion groups of attention and funding, they are getting people to donate money for their business.
New Mexico, where their current clinic is, has no problem with abortion. I see they're not naming the state where this new one will be but I'm betting it will be somewhere equally trouble-free for those seeking an abortion.
What this 'competition' is doing, like all TST's fundraisers, is getting you to fund their start up costs in an abortion friendly State without any requirement to give anyone a return on that donation.
If you want to support pro-abortion causes - and you should - support organisations who will actually help people.

Vorta for Borg Backup - for linux and MacOS. You use it remotely but I use it for local backup because a) its encrypted b) its Borg so awesome and c) easy to use. I just pointed it at my home directory, told it where to place the encrypted backups and how often to make them.
I've had to recover files twice and recovery is just as easy as set up.

Last week, our "Satan Not Hatin'" campaign - set up to challenge hate and far-right extremism in alt music scenes - welcomed it's 200th opt-in participant. That's 200 artists, bands, record labels, promoters, venues and other organisations not prepared to tolerate hate. As well as the documentary on the project (which is still being shot), a Stockholm based radio show, Trigger, have announced they will be dedicating an episode to the campaign and playing bands that are participating! Mate, I was simply extending an analogy you introduced. I neither know (nor care) what the presence of a McDonalds does or doesn't do so don't Sagan me. Nor am I claiming mainstream social media is all arseholes. What I'm saying is that mainstream social media most certainly has the ability and propensity to make people into arseholes due to constant enshittification - part of which is the influencer phenomenon in my opinion and the need for growth at all costs.
I most definitely have reached out to lots of good people on the fediverse and had lots of great exchanges that follow both professional and 'hobby' based interests I have.
But here's the thing - you want growth? OK. I also have no issue with growth. But the best sort of growth in my experience comes organically. It happens at its own pace. The minute you start prodding it along with managed algorithms and all the other stuff mainstream social media now has you end up with an extended hate room. I don't miss Reddit or Xitter at all. I genuinely mean that. No more 'suggestions' of people to follow, no more manufactured outrage getting pushed to my feed, no more clickbait. Instead what I have now is a curated feed across multiple different types of experiences that I spent some time getting how I want them and dipping in and out of when I want to.

You're using words like 'ambition' and 'irrelevant' like the Fediverse is some sort of corporate entity. It's not - that's a point very much in its favour in the opinion of quite a lot of people on it. Contrary to your opinion that no one cares, lots do. What some of us don't care about is catering to a set of people who are paid to express opinions and who, it seems to me, over a period of time end up becoming Andrew Tate or Russel Brand.
There's no McDonalds in the town I currently live in, which is 20 minutes away from one of the largest cities in the country. It might come as a massive shock to you but I - and I think the majority of people - can survive just fine without a Mickey D's. Not having one doesn't make a place desolate, it makes it healthier. And if someone really wants a Big Mac, they can go and get one from elsewhere.
Do you see what I'm saying? This isn't the same place as that - it's quite nice to have a place online that still isn't. And for those that do want that, they can still spend time there if they chose to.

I've literally got no idea what you're talking about or what your point is. Are you saying this person hasn't committed a crime? Because that's incorrect. Lots of jurisdictions have laws preventing things like CSAM generated imagery, deepfake porn and a whole raft of other things. 'Harm' doesn't begin and end with something done to an individual for a lot of crimes.

West Kennet Long Barrow is a Neolithic barrow over 5,500 years old. It's part of the numerous neolithic structures in Wiltshire, UK (which includes the frankly far less impressive but more famous Stonehenge).
Going inside it is a very odd feeling. You can see and touch ancient work marks put there by people who are so remote to us we know very little about them. I've visited numerous ancient world heritage sites and its unique (to me) in how close you feel to those people.

This is great news :) but without wanting to be spammy the org I am a member of !globalorderofsatan@lemmy.blahaj.zone have been running a very similar campaign but for non-mainstream music e.g. metal/punk/indie/alt/industrial/goth that we call "Satan Not Hatin'"
It currently has over 140 opt-in participants of bands, individual artists, venues, festivals, record labels and other orgs from all over the world, including the UK and has been so successful that a well known (within metal circles) documentarian and music video director is currently making a Documentary about the campaign. You can visit the campaign website where we list all the participants and provide more detail - there's also a link to a YouTube playlist of all the participating bands which also works fine in Invidious!
I have contacted the Graun about Satan Not Hatin' but mainstream news has little love for alternative music so we'll carry on with our DIY approach!

Could be yeah. Very weird how it just started happening though. As far as I'm aware nothing on the websites has changed and I haven't updated LW in the last week or so.
Two days ago, LW started behaving very oddly. It suddenly stopped rendering pages - but only on some sites. For example, the default Lemmy skin is fine but the Alexandrite skin is not. The BBC website doesn't work either. A few others seemingly totally random. The domain resolves and it makes the initial connection and then it takes up to a minute of doing nothing and then just craps out, unable to render the page. Checking the Inspector reveals no errors or warnings and the network inspector is making a connection but not loading anything other than headers and basic tags. The page presents no errors it just shows a blank screen. `<html> <head>` and `<body>` tags load but nothing else. All these pages work fine in all other browsers I've tested in (floorp, Mullvad, vanilla FFox and Brave). Details: LibreWolf 128.0-2 (flatpak) on LMDE (Faye). Any clues, pointers or advice very gratefully received. I love the browser and have it set up just how I like it so don't really want to switch to another.

The most annoying thing about the YT situation is that both the initial flag and the appeal we submitted weren't actually dealt with by a human. If they had been, they would've understood instantly we were describing what antivaxxers believe, not advocating for them!
The vast majority of the participants are not (as far as I'm aware) Satanists. Most of them didn't mention it at all, a couple said they were and a few explicitly said they weren't. We've had a lot of artists we approached not reply at all - which is fair, its hard work after all - and I suspect a lot of contacts didn't make it past their PR and/or management but out of all the approaches we've made, we've only had three explicitly say no. And that was because they weren't comfortable being associated with Satanism, which is again fair - its not for everyone.

On December 12, 2023, within the corridors of the Polish Parliament, a scandalous incident occurred, exemplifying extreme discrimination and a lack of respect for the freedom of conscience and religion. During the ceremonial lighting of Hanukkah candles, Member of Parliament Grzegorz Braun extinguished them using a fire extinguisher. Following the incident, Braun gave an interview to the tabloid Super Express, justifying his actions by claiming that “the act that took place in the Parliament was a religious act, deeply satanic in nature” and that “it would be a betrayal of his principles to tolerate and ignore Satanism.” Thus, in the view of the Global Order of Satan, Braun’s act resonated not only as anti-Semitic but also as anti-Satanic. **For this reason, one of the members of our community has filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office, citing a justified suspicion of committing a crime under Article 196 of the Penal Code**(commonly referred to as ‘the insult to religious feelings’) to the detriment of one of our members. CJ Sansom, the popular crime author who created the character Matthew Shardlake, has died aged 71. The historical novelist, whose full name was Christopher John Sansom, died on Saturday, according to his publisher Pan Macmillan. His Tudor murder-mystery novels have recently been adapted to the screen by Disney+, with the first season to be released on Wednesday. Sansom’s first novel, Dissolution, featuring the lawyer-turned-detective Shardlake, dubbed the “Tudor Morse”, was published 21 years ago. He wrote six further novels featuring Shardlake and two standalone historical novels, Winter in Madrid, and Dominion. Sansom recently won the Crime Writers’ Association Cartier Diamond Dagger Award for his outstanding contribution to the genre. There are more than three million copies of his books in print, according to his publisher.

Our UK Order have published episode one "Origins" of GOSPod, their podcast. In this first episode of GOSPod, they talk about the origins of the Global Order of Satan and what it's become today and offer some personal insights into how each of the hosts discovered Satanism and GOS itself. It seems possible that Brave are building Brave Pro, which looks like its a subscription based service of some kind. A note on the Android implementation of the project [reads](https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/37128) (GitHub link): "Implement the required runtime changes (profile settings, chrome flags, group policies, etc.) with the appropriate values that enable the Brave Pro experience. Using Brave in this mode with its default settings and making changes to the Brave Pro defaults require an active paid subscription. When the browser has no active credentials for Brave Pro, the panel UI will promote the service and include the initial payment CTA. When credentials are present the panel UI will include the appropriate toggles for making changes to the default settings." It also links to a private Google Doc.

In an article in the Financial Times, the increasing rise in christian extremism amongst Tory MP's is noted. They quote MP Nick Fletcher: >"Fletcher is a proud evangelical Christian, and cites trans rights, conversion therapies, abortion, assisted dying and freedom of speech as topics where religious MPs “need to be able to talk about our faith”." They also note the rising prominence of Miriam Cates and Danny Kruger, co-chairs of the New Conservatives right-wing faction who we at GOS have [talked about before](https://www.globalorderofsatan.com/satanic-philosophy/the-rise-of-far-right-christian-fundamentalism-in-british-schools/) and who have links to the influence and money that sibling organisations in the USA provide, a fact the Times also notes: >Tim Bale, a politics professor at Queen Mary University of London, said the growing strain of evangelicalism in the Tory party, which he described as “an American import”, was particularly notable. Cates and Kruger were part of a christian/right-wing conference last year (the [National Conservatism Conference](https://nationalconservatism.org/natcon-uk-2023/schedule/)) where these evangelical ideas were expounded upon by the likes of Jacob Rees-Mogg, Suella Braverman, Micheal Gove, David Starkey (who said that left-wing activists are “jealous” of the Holocaust and that groups like Black Lives Matter were attempting to destroy “white culture”), anti-vaxx mouthpiece Melanie Phillips and Lee Anderson as well as speakers from the US arm of the movement such as Senator JD Vance. It's amazing to us therefore that these MP's have the hubris to believe they have a right to speak 'for the people' when they very clearly don't and that they think they have the right to impose their superstitions on the rest of us. Especially since 'the rest of us' is now the majority of the country. >"...MPs also cited the role of the Conservative Christian Fellowship, a non-denominational Christian network founded in 1990 that “inspires and equips believers to go into public life”, as a key force in ushering in more Christians into the party’s elected ranks." Looking at the rise of the very extreme right wing based christianity in the US, this is not something we want here. We stand against it as Adversaries. >

Based in Chile, South America, they have spent several years now laying the groundwork for the formation of a local Satanic religious organisation. We've been keeping track of their progress over the last two years and are all really impressed with the dedication and determination on show. GOS: Steel City [recently announced](https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/10039527) the launch of their 'Baphomet Bags' campaign to help their unhoused neighbours in the Pittsburgh area offering ways to donate money or through Amazon Lists. They have now announced the location of physical drop-off points should people want to donate pre-owned items. These are (so far): **Grim Wizard** located at 1206 Arlington Ave and **Studio 42** in Beaver Falls.

As per title really. I need a backup solution for backing up my home directory to an external USB drive that; 1. I can schedule to run x times per week 2. Encrypts the contents (into an encrypted zip file is fine) 3. Puts the encrypted backup onto an external USB drive 4. Keeps the last x amount of backups. I've found loads that can do one or more of these things but not all of them. I really like [LuckyBackup](https://luckybackup.sourceforge.net/) for example but it doesn't encrypt. I just want something I can set and forget. System is LMDE 6 (Faye).
I've got a few messages on Matrix recently that shows that our communication methods area bit confusing. Maybe you're thinking about applying but want to see what we're about first - this is a good way to do that. *There is an application form* as we want to screen for racists/transphobes/homophobes/misogynists/ableists etc. You are *not* applying for GOS Membership, just Discord access. 2. [GOS: Steel City](https://discord.gg/gossteelcity) is our US/North American specific Discord server. It's operated by GOS: Steel City, our US Order. This is for people who specifically want to join that Order. *There is an application form*. The form *is* for full membership. 3. [GOS Polska](https://discord.com/invite/agnAHvKXN2) same as above, but for Polish full Members. 4. [GOS DE](https://discord.gg/ytU5U835qD) same as above but for all our German SPEAKING Orders - so Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Full Members only. I hope that's a bit clearer.
