People get annoyed when they are weak. In this case, the weakness is that he has not reason he can publicly say, so he gets angry. What a loser.

Unsure if a desktop app is required for this, but unlocking via biometrics / yubikey instead of the keycode would be something I'd be very happy about :)

No system worked better for me than hledger - a doubly entry accounting tool for text files. It is super extensible, privacy focused and will be usable in 20 years still. No other tool has helped me stay on top of my finances as well as this, and I have tried them all. This is very subjective of course, but you might want to give it a try.

I would have reminded you of the power imbalance that might be there, but since you are sensitive enough, I would say you are fine. Just make sure she absolutely knows it is fine if she says no, and that you have another dispensery you can go to for a while if she says no, just to make things not awkward. Otherwise, go for it! You cannot always meet people you like at a bar or whatever people do these days.
//Edit: Wishing you all the best!

Imho it does not matter. It might, however, very well be that people who are obsessed with who is staying on Reddit, who is going back, and how fast Lemmy grows are insecure about their decisions themselves. It does not matter how many people are here, as long as the right people are here. Not only that, but it is kind of bewildering how "bigger is better, if something does not go into hypergrowth it fails" is engrained into our thinking.
I have recently (re)discovered ice-cold showers. The most obvious advantage is you feel refreshed and absolutely energized for quite a while afterward. More importantly, it is one of those things that are awful while doing them, but great after you did them. It really helps you get into the habit of accepting short term pain for long term personal benefits. It also speaks to the tiny Stoic in me. I just realized that more often than not, I just jump under the ice-cold water of the shower instead of tiptoeing around it, as I used to. Don't try to avoid the inevitable, embrace it.

Going rollerskating with my dog. We recently discovered this is a great bonding exercise - he loves to run, and now I can keep up with him! We also need to read each other quite well - I must realize when he wants to stop and go sniffing, and he needs to make sure he follows where I am going. And it is on both of us to make sure we keep the right pace, it is awesome!

It feels like it is, nicely coupled with the worst dependency on a superior I have ever experienced in my life. And this whole working for the collective knowledge of the community is bs to, including double-blind processes in paper reviews. You got to make sure the reviewers know who you are, and they make sure you know who they are ("how about you cite these 3 papers that are super relevant and just by coincidence come from the same author?"). Anyway, all the best to you!

Very sad indeed. I do not understand of what some people are scared so much / have so much hatred toward that they put energy in doing something like that.

No, people give you something in return for what you did with Photon. I do not need to host an instance either and have no idea what you should do with the money. Nobody tells you what to do with it - if you want to splurge it, splurge it, if you want to invest it in hardware or hosting costs, do that.

I do not, and you know that. We do not even disagree on the core issue. But here you are, trying to put yourself on a pedestal by reminding everyone to acknowledge the nuances. This is how core issues get diluted, and I am not interested in that. See you on the next thread where you defend "How mouse farts could contribute to climate change".
