Here is a full list of OP's past accounts. He creates new ones after getting banned for being toxic. His new strategy is deleting posts from his account to hide his tracks. If you scrub through his comment history, you can see the remnants of this behaviour, since Lemmy preserves the titles of posts where someone commented and the fact that they were the OP.

I could see some kind of arrangement where the age would be something reasonable like 16-18, but then there is a test you can write (basic civics questions eg. who are the candidates, what does the legislative branch do, etc.) and if you pass that test, kind of like a learner's permit for driving, you can vote even if you're under that age, down to a hard cutoff of like 13.

A shitpost is something low effort, that simply takes up space in the content feed without being engaging, entertaining, or interesting.

One of the primary forms of shitpost is a meme or joke that isn't very funny, or has been reposted to death. So "shitposting" can refer to the act of spamming shitty meme posts.

    • Players assume their own identities rather than fictional characters.
    • Gameplay is set in the players' real-world locations, reimagined post-apocalypse.

Sounds like a neat idea. The self-insert aspect is interesting, but I wonder if it would limit the kinds of stories you could tell. How is character creation handled? Is it considered mandatory to create a character based on yourself, or is it simply a fun suggestion?

Also, how does the "gameplay is set in the player's real world locations" thing work? Does that mean it's harder to play online with people who are far apart? Does the game balance change if played by a group in a rural/urban/suburban/industrial environment? Or is it again simply a fun suggestion? These sound like neat ideas for making the game seem more unique and immersive, but I'm having trouble imagining how they would actually work in a way that would stay fun to play over and over again.

I have visited shops to find them full of Magic and other TCG players, but no role-players

Did you ask the people behind the counter at your LGS if they do TTRPG groups?

I have posted on relevant socials and Discords like the Discord server for a game store, local area RPG players Discord and FB pages, LFG groups on reddit and Lemmy and Discord

If you've done all that and you're still not getting any bites as a GM looking for players, I'm inclined to think there is something wrong with your pitch that is turning people off. Usually GMs looking for players have the problem of too many players being interested. Maybe it's because you're looking for pen and paper players as opposed to an online group? Are there any unusual requirements you've put forth in your posts on these communities?

Some people might be a bit nervous about playing in-person with a totally new group. Perhaps you could offer playing online virtually with people in your local area first, and then if you all vibe, you could meet in-person after that.

Yup. The first one I remember is a concert where I went to see the opener and didn't much care for the main act. While I was on the floor during the opening act, I was next to a girl who seemed similarly enthused about that band. We definitely both noticed each other fangirling over this relatively unknown opening act. Then, afterward, I bumped into her on the balcony while the main act was playing, and she's like "these guys kinda suck right? I think I'm gonna head out and get a drink at $nearby_bar". And I totally missed the hint.

Just ran my first session of an OSR system and had a blast!

I recently heard about Mothership from some YouTubers and decided to run a one-shot for a couple of guys in my Pathfinder 2e group. I was really impressed by the way that a more rules-light system naturally encourages more player engagement and creativity. We will probably end up playing a lot more of it in the future.

Are there any armours that give suboptimal AC that you consider worthwhile?

So, if you're unaware, the basic math of PF2e's armour items assumes that for light and medium armour, `(item bonus + dex cap) = 5`, and for heavy armour, `= 6`. This means that as long as you can pick an armour that has a lower dex cap than your dex bonus, you are expected to be getting either 5 or 6 AC from your armour. With all that said, there are a ton of armours out there that offer some kind of tradeoff, where that formula doesn't hold. For example, the Armoured Coat gives +4 AC between item bonus and dex cap, but it has the flexible trait which negates the check penalty to athletics and acrobatics checks. In my mind, that's a crazy tradeoff to make. The extra AC is so much more important. At the end of the day though, I don't have the time to analyze the tradeoff offered by all of these "sub-optimal" armours. So yeah, I'd love to hear if anyone has experience with an armour item that yields less than 5 AC (or 6 for heavy armour) and yet the tradeoff was actually worth it for them.

The biggest loss IMO of the Remaster

The NPC gallery from the legacy GMG wasn't reprinted in GMC. No more generic "bandit" "mad scientist", "assassin", "priest", "necromancer", "gang leader" These had a lot of value for telling the sort of stories I like to tell in my games, which are less about killing unequivocally evil "monsters" and more about regular people who may be morally complex and provoke more interaction from the players. I'm well aware one can simply use legacy content, but that ignores that some of these had mechanics that have been revised in the remaster, and they were an important part of the toolkit provided to GMs in the GMG. Right now, the GM Core feels very lacking in terms of providing support for creating a cast of NPCs in adventures. There's literally a half a page dedicated to NPCs and it basically just says "make 'em up". Saying "You can use legacy content" is not a valid point when these new books are supposed to serve as a foundation for the system standing on their own. Additionally, the official Paizo FoundryVTT bestiary portraits module, which I paid good money for, appears to have **removed** the portraits for these generic NPCs when the remaster content was added to the system. The realization of that was actually the thing that prompted this post. I was setting up an encounter for my players and was confused as to why the "Antipaladin" art was [this](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/74130268/201760433-b8cdecf1-957f-40b3-aaa9-4da3014952f9.png) instead of [this](https://2e.aonprd.com/Images/NPCs/Villain_Antipaladin.png). I am almost certain that before the remaster it used the art from the GMG for those tokens.

Running a rival party of adventurers

    # Background: I'm running the Pathfinder 2e Abomination Vaults adventure for a group of 5 players, though I've set it in my own homebrew setting and have not shied away from deviating from the published adventure. I'll try not to, but I may let slip some minor AV spoilers The players have just reached the end of book 1, and are about to go into book 2. At this point, about a month of in-game time has passed since the adventure began, and one week into the adventure there was a big supernatural event which made big news around the town that the adventure is set in. I like to play up the verisimilitude of the setting by having NPCs and the world react to the things that happen, as well as to the passage of time. I wasn't 100% sure this was a problem, as I had noticed a lot more people commenting what appeared to be static image responses to comments. But there's this thread: https://lemmy.world/post/16932878 which makes it easy to be sure that in fact they are definitely GIFs, and they don't play when you click on them. It just opens the first frame of the GIF like a static image.

Against The Storm looks like ass

The game seems to downscale and blur all textures, so the only thing that looks sharp is text and 3d models. Unfortunately some of the UI text seems to actually be a rendered texture, so the text of some UI elements can look blurry and pixelated. It also seems that the blurring is a live process, not a preprocess. This means that a lot of the UI elements are constantly flickering on top of being blurry. Overall I love the game FWIW. I picked it up this week and love the gameplay loop. I'm just amazed it gets the green checkmark despite having such glaring UI issues with the default graphics settings (which are ostensibly tailored to the Deck) Can anyone tell me if this can be fixed? Edit: I had half-rate shading turned on and didn't realize it. I'm an idiot.

Safest way of using WeChat on Android?

I live in Canada. My girlfriend is Chinese (also living in Canada), and while we are able to communicate via SMS, her mobile carrier isn't the best, and so there have often been issues for us with regular texting. She expressed a strong preference to use WeChat, at least as a backup option for when texting fails us. While I have some pretty significant reservations, it's not the hill I want to die on. So my question is: what can be done to use WeChat without compromising my whole phone? I'm okay with it if our conversations aren't private, but I'd like to know that I'm not giving unfettered access to all of my phone's systems and data to the CCP. What can be done to limit the reach of this ubiquitous app on my device?

    🇨🇳🎥 第二十条 Article 20 - 2024 www.imdb.com

I 🇨🇦 went to see this movie last night with my girlfriend 🇨🇳. I'm pretty sure I was the only white guy in the theatre 😅 It's got an interesting tone, swinging between really funny and really serious very quickly. Sometimes you'll be raucously laughing at some goofy humour one second, and then something dark and heavy will happen and give you whiplash. In that sense, it felt a bit like a Wes Anderson film to me. The main source of comedy in the movie comes from the dynamic between the protagonist, his wife, and his coworker/ex-girlfriend. The wife plays up the "nagging wife" trope pretty perfectly, and contrasts the diligent coworker. At times it can be hard to tell if you're supposed to believe that the protagonist is a bumbling fool, or a competent investigator. In that sense, the comedy bits reminded me a lot of Steve Martin in the Pink Panther. The theme is interesting. It examines what the punishment should be for people who use what could be called "excessive force" in self defense. A bit high-minded at times and the ending felt a bit cheesy, but overall I liked he way the movie's core theme was repeated across many different subplots. Overall I think it's worth watching if you like comedy/drama.

Best remedy after a really bad high?

Hi there, I'm not a member of this community (only a very sporadic user myself) but figured it would be a good place to ask this question. The TLDR version is: My lady friend OD'd on edibles and is still a bit sick a day and a half later, is there any good remedy to help her get back on her feet? Longer version below: The girl I'm seeing recently had a downright awful experience with weed. She hasn't ever used before (she tried smoking once but didn't inhale properly so no high), and I expect she probably won't try it again any time soon. On Friday night she was hanging out with some friends and decided to try an edible since her friends were having some. Her weed literacy isn't great, and she didn't know that edibles hit different, nor that they take a while to kick in. She was also on an empty stomach since we had a dinner date in a couple hours and she often skips lunch at work, and on top of all that she's on the smaller side, so less bodyweight. She only had a third of what her friends took, but ended up being super unwell. I'm talking throwing up multiple times, bad vibes (crying, saying she didn't want to go to sleep because she would die in her sleep), and acting irrational (kept trying to leave her friend's house because she didn't want to be late for our date). Her friends texted me from her phone as it was happening because she was insistent on leaving and they wanted to let me know it wasn't happening. I told them about the thing with black peppercorns and apparently that (plus telling her not to worry about standing me up) helped enough that they were able to get her to fall asleep. She ended up sleeping and being nauseous for basically the entire day yesterday and I only heard back from her this morning. Anyway, that's all just the loredump. My actual question is, is there anything that can be done to help someone feel better when they are recovering from OD'ing on edibles? She's still not feeling 100%, probably from throwing up and panicking so much. I know for someone who is badly hungover from alcohol there are all sorts of folk remedies that at least work as a placebo if not as an actual cure. Just wondering if there's some equivalent for weed. I want to do something nice for her since I think she must feel awful about missing our date.

Android phone receiving SMS late/out of order from iPhones

This started a few days ago. I've been getting texts from friends with iPhones in the wrong order, and seemingly they are getting mine late. So I texted a friend whose grandmother was in the hospital yesterday, and her conversation with me looked like this. These texts from her arrived around a minute apart each. I think the intended order of them is fairly obvious. It's worth noting that every time I send her a text, the read receipt line under the text shows a little clock for a few seconds or more, which I think means it hasn't been recieved by her phone yet. Also worth noting that I had a conversation using the same stock messaging app with my mom yesterday who has an android and I don't think we had any such issue, but that may have actually been RCS. Anyway, here's the example. It's not the only example I've had with her or with another iPhone-using friend in the past couple days. > Me: Hey, how's your day? Any updates about your grandma? > Her (a few hours later): I feel relieved > Me: does that mean you got good news? > Her: how was your day? > Her: yeah > Me: my day was good, (proceeds to describe what I did that day) > Her: my family feels relieved too > Me: what was the good news? Your grandma is okay? > Her: Hey $bionicjoey, I didn't get much sleep last night but I just heard that the doctors say my grandma is out of danger. Edit: I texted her last night saying something weird was going on after that exchange, and then this morning at about 7:30 AM I texted her saying "let me know as soon as you get this". She just texted me at 2:30pm saying "I just am just now seeing your texts"

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I've been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it's a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn't "true open source" but it's a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app. I updated the YouTube backend recently and to my surprise and delight they had added support for SponsorBlock. However, when I went to enable it, it warned me "turning this on harms creators" and made me click a box before I could continue. Bruh, you're literally an ad-blocking YouTube frontend. What kind of mental gymnastics does it take to be facilitating ad-blocking and then at the same time shame the end-user for using an extension which simply automates seeking ahead in videos. Are you seriously gonna tell me that even without Sponsorblock, if I skip ahead past the sponsored ad read in a video, that I'm "harming the creator"?

How exactly do the Klingons justify using cloaking ships, a strategy which necessarily involves sneaking up on an enemy and catching them unaware? Wouldn't sneak attacks conflict with their notion of honour?

Funny story from last night's session

The party finds a secret door. Not knowing what's on the other side, they send the fighter in first. The fighter pushes open the secret door. As it swings forward it pushes aside a corpse on the other side that apparently died trying to pry open the secret door and escape from the next room. The fighter steps over the corpse, walks into the room, looks around, sees there are no enemies immediately attacking him, and says to the rest of the party "come on in guys, looks like it's safe in here!"

Question about the Lie activity in combat

I'll preface this by saying I'm a very new GM, so I'm fairly sure I made the wrong ruling here, but as the saying goes, the best ruling is the one that keeps the game going. I was running the first session of Abomination Vaults last weekend and something came up that I'm not sure how to handle RAW. Basically, a PC wanted to use the Lie activity in order to talk their way out of a fight. They were fighting a group of Mitflits, and had already used Recall Knowledge to know that Mitflits are easy to manipulate. The PC speaks Undercommon, and they are a Bard, but they want their character to be friendly and therefore didn't like the idea of using Demoralize or Coerce. They instead tried to use the Lie activity. They told one of the Mitflits that the party was sent by their boss, and therefore they should let them go. They rolled a critical success on the Lie. Now I needed to decide what to do with that. This was a weird situation, because the rules don't really say what lying can accomplish. All it says is that the target believes the lie. Given that the combat had already started, and the PCs had already attacked some of the Mitflits with lethal attacks, it seemed impossible to me that this Mitflit would actually stop fighting (ie. go from hostile to unfriendly), even if he believed the lie. The lie was convincing in terms of how it was worded, but the situation in which it was spoken made it kinda unbelievable. But then again, Mitflits are *supernaturally* easy to manipulate and bully. Ultimately I ruled that the targeted Mitflit would become Frightened 1, as though the Bard had succeeded on a Demoralize. My reasoning being that the Mitflit believes the lie, but also believes he should continue fighting the PCs. This cognitive dissonance in his mind shocked him and distracted him from the fight at hand. I'm curious if any GMs out there have any tips on what the best way to handle this would have been.

Question about the free archetype optional rule

I've noticed that many archetypes with a level 2 dedication feat simply don't have any level 4 feats. How does this work with the free archetype variant rule? Do you just discard the bonus feat slot at level 4? Also, does playing with this variant rule essentially make it impossible to take a level 4 dedication feat at level 4?

Any good resources for GM tactics?

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ca/post/1339512 > As a GM I'd like to feel like I fully understand how to utilize my monsters tactically, but over the past couple months as I've been running the beginner box and now leading into Abomination Vaults, I feel as though I'm very often just making three strikes with an enemy or moving and striking twice unless the enemy has a very specific action in its statblock which is obviously better. Favourite Codenames clues?

I just played Codenames for the first time and was in the situation of needing to clue "Ninja" and "Czech" for the win. Ended up going with "Defenestrate". Thanks for all you've done @talklittle - You made the most heavily used piece of software of my life

I just wanted to say: if you were to take every piece of software I've ever used in my 28 years on this earth, and you added up the cumulative amount of time I spent using each of them, RiF would be the winner. And it isn't even close. And I now feel like I always took it for granted. It was always there, in the top left corner of my home screen across multiple phones and for over a decade. The software you wrote has had a greater impact on my life than any other software ever has. My only regret is that I only paid you for it the one time. Thank you.

Crazy idea: StackExchange {c,sh}ould join the Fediverse

I've always thought of the StackExchange network as kind of a strange beast. In one sense, it is basically a Reddit clone. It has a "front page", it has "karma", it has "subreddits", etc. And yet, it is something else entirely. Through strict moderation and constraining site rules, it has always maintained a separate niche from Reddit, despite being so conceptually similar. I think there is a real possibility that StackExchange network is basically already compliant with the "threadiverse" protocol (ie the Lemmy/Kbin dialect of activitypub), or rather that the data model of their API could be made to be compliant with almost no effort at all. I think it would be really cool to see some of the questions and discussion threads that get created over there appearing over here. Even if it was a one-way connection, the idea of knitting these networks together is fascinating to me. I have no idea if it would make business sense for them, but then again I don't actually know how StackExchange makes most of their money.

A Pathfinder 2e mechanic that I will henceforth always use in 5e

Like many 5e players, I investigated other systems during the drama in January. I have converted my table over to Pathfinder 2e, so that's what I'll mostly be running going forward. However, I'm not one of those people who thinks 2e is better than 5e in all respects, and I'll probably run 5e again at some point in the future. And when I do, there's a mechanic from Pathfinder that I will 100% be porting over to 5e: **Hero Points**. Below I will provide a version of this mechanic, written in the mechanical language of 5e (to the best of my ability) ---- # Hero Points *(replaces inspiration)* Hero points represent a player character's unique ability to act heroically against adversity. At the beginning of each play session, each player loses any hero points they have accumulated, then recieves 1 hero point. Depending on the average duration of your group's gaming sessions, the DM may increase or decrease the frequency of this by periodically resetting hero points mid-session, or only once every couple sessions. The expectation is that this reset will occur roughly once every 3-5 hours of play. The DM may award additional hero points for any reason. They are encouraged to give out hero points to reward good roleplaying, good tactics, or any behaviour which improves the play experience for everyone at the table. A DM should award an average of approximately one hero point for every hour of play. You can have multiple hero points, but you can never have more than 3 hero points. Whenever you roll an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check, you may spend a hero point after seeing the result and after the DM tells you whether or not the roll was a success or failure. If you do, you reroll the check and must use the new result, even if it is worse. This roll is unaffected by whether you have advantage or disadvantage on the check. Whenever you would fall unconscious due to being reduced to 0 HP, or whenever you would accumulate a death saving throw failure, you may spend all of your hero points in order to remove any death saving throw failures and become stabilized at 0 HP. The DM may provide other options for how to spend hero points, such as altering the story or introducing new information which benefits the party. ----- That's it, that's the whole mechanic. In general I just think 2e does a much better job of the "inspiration" system than 5e. In my years as both a player and a DM, I can count on one hand the number of times I ever saw Inspiration being awarded to 5e players. It simply isn't a good system. The DM fiat needed to receive it makes it unpredictable, and it's way too hard to get players to actually spend it once they have it. The Hero Points system is much better because it resets every session, meaning that players will have a predictable way to get hero points, and that they will have a good reason to spend them; even if the DM forgets to award it. And since they will be spending that resource more often, the DM will have more reminders that the mechanic exists. I encourage DMs out there to experiment with this system in their own games. And let me know how it goes.

Question about treat wounds on Eidolons

Hi all! Relatively new (or new to PF2e) GM here. Last night one of my players who is playing a Summoner raised the question of whether he can attempt Treat Wounds twice every hour instead of once since his Eidolon is a separate target (ie. Someone treats the Summoner's wounds and then immediately treats the Eidolon's wounds). I ruled in the moment that I didn't think that sounded right, my reasoning being that they share a health pool and the PC shouldn't be able to double its benefits solely because of which class it is. Can anyone tell me what the RAW is here, ideally with an AON reference I can point him to? Edit: I found [this thread](https://paizo.com/threads/rzs43gs5?Medicine-and-Eidolons) which seems to suggest that I made the wrong call. I'd love to have a more official answer, but I think the idea that healing is supposed to be trivialized by certain combos makes sense.

Almost had a TPK last night in the Pathfinder 2e beginner box

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ca/post/631499 > So, I've been running the PF2E beginner box, which is like a tutorial adventure, for a group of 5 people (we play as long as at least 3 show up). The players had the option of playing any of the pregen "iconic" characters for Pathfinder. So far, we've had a fighter, witch, monk, swashbuckler, and summoner. Of those, only the witch has any sort of healing, and the witch player couldn't make our session last night. > > The players went into this room that is meant to be like an optional miniboss (but there isn't really a way for them to have known that). The miniboss is this fire elemental rat that is supposed to teach you how "persistent damage" works. It's a very tough fight, and the elemental has a lot of defensive options like a cloud of smoke around it. Eventually the rat killed two party members (the swashbuckler and the monk), and one more (the fighter) went unconscious but didn't die. The last player (summoner) got chipped down to like 3 HP but was able to drag the fighter out of the fight to safety. > > I think it was a good learning opportunity for the players that you need to be tactical and work together in PF2e, since they basically just all tried to attack the rat in melee. It also shows the value of having support characters in the party. > > Going forward we are going to complete the beginner box, the two players who lost their PCs are going to play new pregens (bard and investigator). I'm hoping the players don't get too disillusioned with PF2e because it is very difficult at times. > > I'd love to hear other Pathfinder GMs' thoughts. I'm still new, so it's possible I was doing something wrong, but I think I ran that fight the way it's meant to be run.
