It was fine. I’ve seen all the shows so I get the backstory and references.
That being said, there are just too many Star Wars and movie cliches to be bearable:
Oh wow she cut her hair dramatically, she’s such a rebel and such a badass. (Cheap and overused character moment)
Staring pathetically at a spaceship flying away after a lightsaber duel (has happened four thousand times in Star Wars)
“Get ready!”
Lightsabers are harmless
Fixing a bomb under a ticking time clock (false peril)
Ancient artifact leads to the location of a place or character in the present (another cliche and cheap writing)
Another star map mcguffin (overused cliche)

Ugh that scene TFA derailed it in microseconds. So much stupid hand waving by JJ. That movie started on such a high note, then every minute following the opening act was like watching a bouncy house slowly deflate.

I’m on 5mg ER and had minor side effects. Initially I couldn’t get a boner, but it also made me insanely horny almost in a deviant way. Masturbated like 4-5 a day in the first few weeks. That all went away thankfully. Some teeth grinding and dry skin stuff, that all seems to be getting better but those side effects lasted a lot longer, probably about a year or two. Haven’t upped my milligrams, still works three years later

Oof, going way back here. The first time I fell in love? It was insane. I was 16 and so was she. It was crazy stupid love. So much passion, but it was ugly too. My favorite part was losing my virginity to someone I cared for deeply and visa versa, second favorite part was finally getting over her years after the breakup. It was an awful one, embarrassing and cringe inducing in a lot of ways, but it also made me a better person. Wouldnt give all that happiness and pain up in a million years, and this is 25 years later.

And remember that despite some unique large scale issues we have today, there were much, MUCH worse times to be alive. “Majority of Americans live a peaceful life and die at 70-80” is not reportable news but still largely true.
Things are far from perfect, there are major issues, but I’d choose to live today than almost the entirety of human existence previously.
There were definitely way more violent times in the US: there were pandemics, there were revolts, there were wars. We live in an amazing time but it takes a bit of grand perspective to realize that all the bad news is easy to see in a matter of minutes. You can have death and destruction delivered right into your home in a matter of milliseconds. It’s much much harder to see all the wonderful things happening in the world

In some ways yes but it can have the opposite effect too. I know lots of left leaning people who grew up in super religious/conservative families and hate everything about their beliefs.
_finger_ 1 year ago • 100%
The super rich are usually highly educated but they live in such a homogenous bubble that they’re opinions on the majority of society should be entirely discounted. They usually have a total lack of empathy for people and vote for politicians with the same attitude. I have met some super rich people who try very hard to go against the grain and not fall into that mindset, but something about the need for protecting your money and lifestyle usually promotes an untrustworthy and skeptical view of everyone in their lives including their own family.

Addiction is defined by repeated behavior despite repeated consequences.
My little cousins stole my aunt’s credit card and spent $10k on digital goods. This wasn’t the first time this happened.
There are legitimate concerns about how these services are shaping the minds of children, constantly poking the reward center of their malleable brains and wiring them a specific way to open pathways to addictive behavior. YouTube channels promoting desperate consumerism by featuring kids opening endless “presents” for an hour as an example.
I will admit that as someone who is a bit more tech savvy than the average person this stuff is pretty alarming. I’m planning to become a parent soon and it seems like keeping their usage in check will be an endless game of whack a mole, and that screen/game/content addiction is now the default outcome because they’re all built to be so predatory and addictive by nature.
_finger_ 1 year ago • 100%
As someone who is contemplating becoming a parent soon, what’s a good solution to managing screen time? I’m an IT guy so managing their devices will be standardized, but ethically I’m a bit worried about going too far with it. I really want my kids to grow up being creative and a bit bored sometimes so they have to make their own fun, but I also want them to game a bit like when I was a kid. It’s going to take quite a bit of work to restrict access to certain services at certain times of day, plus I’m considering absolutely no social media until they’re in high school but I’m worried that it’ll make them rebel and get desperate

It’s really not as extreme as this guy implies. I guarantee you he has habits he’s not mentioning, it’s just that adhd have more of a tendency to forget them because we’ll get distracted by something else. I think about brushing my teeth, yes, but once I get started I day dream through it. I’m diagnosed ADHD and medicated.
In a recent thread asking for top five movies, my comment was added to another user’s post but weirdly they’re comment was VERY similar to mine. Then my exact same comment was added to ANOTHER user’s post. I’m now sure if this is an issue with the Memmy app or Lemmy I general, but the fact that my original comment was confused with another very similar comment is pretty sus. Why would this happen? Is it a coincidence? More pics in replies
Great job, search works great, notifications are there, interface is really nice. This is now my new favorite app. Thanks for all the hard work. Taking donations?
What I think could make Lemmy superior to Reddit is the ability to create themed-instances that are all linked together which feels like the entire point. I've noticed that a lot of instances are trying to be a catch-all Reddit replacement by imitating specific subs which is understandable given the circumstances but seems like it's not taking advantage of the full power that Lemmy could have. Imagine for a moment that instances were more focus-based. Instead of having communities that are all mostly unrelated we had entire instances that are focused on one specific area of expertise or interest. Imagine a LOTR instance that had many sub-communities (in this case "communities" would be the wrong way to look at it, it would be more like categories) that dealt with different subjects in the LOTR universe: books, movies, lore, gaming, art, etc all in the same instance. Imagine the types of instances that could be created with more granular categories within to better guide conversations: Baseball, Cars, Comics, Movies, Tech etc. A tech instance could have dedicated communities for news, programming, dev, IT, Microsoft, Apple, iOS, linux. Or you could make it even more granular by having a dedicated instance for each of those because there's so many categories that could be applied to each. What are your thoughts?
Discuss. Does it look kinda cheap to anyone else or am I going crazy?
Well this is a no brainer, I wasn't super happy with BoBF (as Im sure a lot of other people weren't either) and Im sure that LFL knows that it was a rush job. I think Boba Fest works best in the shadows off camera and popping in from time to time for awesome appearances, he just doesn't have main character traits at all. It would have been nice to see him go bounty hunting rather than become a new crime lord. It would have been perfect for the episodic format. Instead we got snotty teenager and half built sets.
Please read the sidebar, I have no idea how to moderate or even how it works on Lemmy but willing to figure it out unless it becomes too much work in which case I will need some help. Anyway, just helping to build out Lemmy.world a bit more. If the community grows I think it would be fun to create our own instance with tons of sub communities: Legends Books, Canon books, games, movies, tv etc. For now all discussion will happen here. Just a reminder that it would be better to post memes in the Star Wars memes community instead of here, ideally this would become more of a place for discussions, reviews, and hype.
