Active enough considering the scale of the community.

The only streak that's EVER benefitted me was the one for my diary app (highly recommend Daylio) though I think if you didn't buy it before it's on a subscription model now... Like everything else. Don't pay a subscription for your diary!

I'm all for defederating Hexbear, but lemmy.ml is absolutely huge compared to Hexbear. To motivate the community to do that you'd need quite a bit of proof. Or at least something rather compelling. Do you have any proof of what you're referring to?

Probably my wheelchair. It's a pretty nifty little chair that has quite a few unique features. Also I would need it to get there anyway. Otherwise maybe one of my drawings.

Open the drawer, if using drawer navigation or the bottom bar if using bottom bar navigation and tap explore, then you'll see subscribed and local are options, you can tap the three dots next to each to make it the default.

This is a great suggestion. It's a very useful thing to have. People are always asking me for help with things, I'm the only one with tools I guess and I only have a small box, mostly cheap stuff from harbor freight. But it works!

I'm not sure if you're using bottom navigation or not but I am and it adds a little red bubble with a number to the inbox button. I'm assuming something similar happens in the side bar navigation.

Absolutely. I never meant to suggest otherwise. I'm just saying, people should spend more time picking an instance.

I mean they're being really clear that they plan to basically do subtle griefing of other NATO friendly instances... They're also fueled by misinformation and perpetuates it. Honestly the web needs a little censorship. I know that if I really wanted to see them they're other instances I could be on. This one just cleans up a little better.

I leaned no one on Lemmy are as helpful as they seem. Nor as nice... I gave up on trying to run my own instance... My life is too busy and hard to find time for this anyway...

As frustrating as that would be, it wouldn't be permanent I know they're very serious with backups. A roll back is annoying but not really that damaging.
I'm currently running an instance on Ubuntu but I'm wondering if it can be moved to my windows computer?

There are actually quite a few vegan communities. Try this website!

If you do decide to make them community I'd be happy to join. Or even help moderate it with you. I'm quite comfortable with Lemmy and moderate 5 communities with between my accounts. I also used to be a vegan and would like to get back there.

Not quite. From what I've read, I think only text is downloaded, pictures and other media are just links. So not everything needs to be downloaded. Also to trigger/maintain this connection (federation) at least one person from your instance needs to be subscribed.
But you won't find this community in the search bar because you're not federated yet. So to trigger the initial federation you'll need to search for the full URL, the entire URL including "https://" (https://lemdro.id/c/android) It won't show up at first, so try again in a few seconds, and sometimes you'll need to try a lot of times if the instances are running slowly. But eventually your instance will find the other community on the other instance.
But at the time I'm writing this lemdro.id is apparently offline so it won't work at all right now.
Soullioness 1 year ago • 100%
I ended up just starting over...
I've created two 2 instances and am admin of both. I'd like to transfer my account across or at least federate with all my subscriptions. It would take me all day to find all those communities again.

Yep. I just set it up. I've never done anything like this before and I was really worried about opening the ports up because I don't really know what I'm doing it's kinda my first time. Besides Minecraft and whatever.

now i get this error when i attempt to access it. anyone know how to set it back? `404: FetchError: request to http://lemmy:8536/api/v3/site` and the command `docker compose -p lemmy-easy-deploy logs -f` yeilds a bunch of nonsense but this line stood out... `Error: LemmyError { message: Some("Cannot have both private instance and federation enabled."), inner: Cannot have both private instance and federation enabled., context: "SpanTrace" }`
I understand it's probably not ideal for a variety of reasons but I'm still very curious if it can be done.

I'm using a Raspberry pi 3 and attempting to compile Lemmy. It's been frozen since about 10am eastern time. I'm hoping it'll finish overnight. Do you have any experience running Lemmy on a pi? I'd love to hear your stories.
If I toggle it on and off it'll actually stay off for a day or two but it always comes back. I'm on a Galaxy S20 Android 13 I believe.
It's been sitting here frozen like this for a really long time, hours actually. I'm trying to install Lemmy on my raspberry pi. The terminal hasn't moved at all in hours, but the mouse will nudge a little after like a minute of lag. Is it frozen in a broken way? Or should I just try and leave it for the night?
I've been trying to setup a personal Lemmy instance for better control over federation, but I've run in to many error messages, most of I solved on my own but here's this one... `soullioness@raspberrypi:~ $ docker-compose up -d ERROR: yaml.constructor.ConstructorError: while constructing a mapping in "./docker-compose.yml", line 36, column 12 found unhashable key in "./docker-compose.yml", line 36, column 13` I can't for the life of me figure this out. I can't find any helpful info online either. Edit: I'm using a raspberry pi 3 I'm sure there is more info I'm forgetting just let me know.

Because as you can see, beehaw, one of the largest instances, blocked the other 2 largest instances. This situation is inevitable in NSFW only instances like us. As a result, you must have one main account, where you can access all instances, and one NSFW account, where you can only access NSFW content. For example, I don't plan to block any instances on this instance, except in extreme cases.

For example I found this funny ban on lemmy.world/modlog and wanted to share it somewhere. I also would like to hold mods more accountable. I suppose I could create a community. But I guess I just wanted to make sure there isn't already one. Edit: the more I thought about it I decided I'd enjoy making such a community. lemmy.world/c/modlog
Do we know when the next version will come out?
Also can I see what is already being worked on?
Which major instances are know for having or not having censorship?
They don't even want you to use the website I don't think. They've even done experiments where they blocked people from using the mobile website. The more they want me to use their app, the more I want to avoid Reddit all together.
