Just out of curiosity I tried getting the server running on my Android phone and it works! Redirect from the UntrackMe app is also working. Not sure how much of a battery drain it will be but I'll keep testing it.

I use it because Twitter has a vast amount of information but I want nothing to do with the company itself. And there are handy apps like UntrackMe for Android and LibRedirect for desktop browsers that will automatically redirect to the open source alternatives.

Edit: I got it backwards, meaning these are what I'd consider acceptable places to charge your phone.

Airport? Yeah but use a no-data charging cable.

Mall? I don't see why anyone would care about that.

Restaurant? If it's under your table or very close by.

Stadium? Where would they be charging it at a stadium, maybe where the bathrooms and concessions are? If it's out of the way I don't think that would bother anyone.

Fair enough, I see your point. I don't take the SIM card out when traveling though, I use dual SIM.

I just think having a standardized messaging service is important, something that doesn't need an app download or login. From what I can find RCS is free to use over Wi-Fi regardless of the country, and sending over data should also barely cost anything, it wouldn't be a 'per message' charge like SMS. And I can't help but wonder how much its adoption is affected by one of the world's most influential corporations deciding to not support it. I guess that's what's so frustrating to me.

The problem is that SMS and RCS are the only standardized ones, with RCS having many of the features that services like iMessage and WhatsApp offer. Once again it's Apple that stands in the way because they like their users thinking everything non-Apple is inferior, and they refuse to support RCS.

This is exactly why I'll never buy from Apple, the first problem in addition to the horrible contrast is intentionally caused by them so you will think other services are inferior. Either that or it's your cell provider, I've been able to text and call over Wi-Fi for years.

Google FI also works with networks from all over the world for no extra cost so that's really nice for international travel.

This is the first I've heard of LASIM, love that it copies blocks as well. I've been using lemmy-migrate and I don't think there's any options for block lists but otherwise it works really well across multiple accounts

Honestly I think it looks really nice. The keyboard seems decent. I had the Pixel C tablet years ago that had a magnetic keyboard like that and I wish I could have kept using it as an accessory when I upgraded to galaxy tabs

The admin did it for a reason after seeing the scaling issues of other networks, it's in the lemm.ee sidebar. But you can use another instance without that limit to post to lemm.ee and it will be hosted there instead of lemm.ee. I've been doing that for a photography community and it's been working pretty well
