Your data has monetary value to google. Giving them access, without getting any money from them (or even knowing what ways it will be used) is not something you must do.

To be fair, while you may not be getting money in its direct form (cash, bank deposit, etc) from Google, they are providing you a service which costs them money for free. So they are providing something of monetary value.

Only the individual can determine if their data is worth that free (to the individual, not free to Google) service. I'm assuming that most people in a privacy community would be against that, though.

Clickbaity, sure. But this is one of the justifiable clickbaity times. They said the meat of the article, while clickbait, that was the essence of the problem. "I'll give you a child." That's the issue. It doesn't really matter if he's randomly setting his sights on her, or if she said she was childless. That part does not matter. They could've left everything out but the quote. The part that does matter, is he said he'll give her a child without being asked.

You agree it's a terrible thing for him to say. Is it less terrible for him to say it because she signed as childless? No? Then context does not matter. Yes, it's less terrible because she said it? Well, then there's the hiccup as we disagree on that part and we'll disagree on the context, too.

So there's no meaningful missing context. With or without the context, it is widely understood to mean "I'll impregnate you." I don't see how that "missing context" makes the headline "unfair," as you put it.

There is a context to what was said that is not fairly put in the title of the article...

What's the context? The only context I know is she endorsed Kamala and signed her name as Childless Cat Lady. Musk didn't like that and said this line. Did I miss anything?

If not (and even if I did), as a male talking to a female, saying you're going to "give you a child" pretty much only means "I'm going to impregnate you."

CalyxOS relocks the bootloader and they supported the FP5 right after launch.

CalyxOS is not a hardened OS, and GrapheneOS requires more than than just relocking the bootloader.

Fairphone's devices do not meet basic security requirements for hardware, firmware and the software device support including drivers. Please look at the hardware requirements at https://grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices and check for yourself how many of those are provided by the Fairphone. Even the Fairphone 5 has a CPU core from 2021 without even PAC and BTI.

You can still be part of a project without being lead, to be part of the "we." Did he contribute and/or is he part of GrapheneOS, yes? So he's part of the "we."

Or does only the lead developer get the "we?" Wouldn't that make it more of an "I" instead?

Thai article reminded me to buy (and hopefully beat) KCD before KCDII comes out in Feb 2025.

On the Xbox store, the DLC bundle (no game) was normally $20, but 75% off so it was only $5. The game+DLC bundle was normally $40, but it was 90% off so it was only $4. Easy choice, even if I already had the game and no DLC

We've heard this one in 2016.

He was a convicted felon who had the Supreme Court in his pocket who granted him immunity as well as an attempted insurrection in his honor and he saluted hostile generals?

I don't remember if he promised to be a dictator on day one or had already praised dictators back then, so I'll grant you that one out of...everything else he's done since then which was not covered in 2016.

But sure, let's play chicken with the saner and lesser of the two evils and help MAGA win.

The main thing they have going against them is the currently small list of apps, and it won't grow unless people become aware of it and ask devs to put their apps there.

As for "not as open," can you clarify what you mean? Yes, Accrescent does have "certain minimum requirements for all apps submitted to it to ensure the privacy and security of its users." Is that what you mean,to loosen that? https://accrescent.app/docs/guide/appendix/requirements.html

Or "just get it from Accrescent and be done with it?" Are you implying if you get it from Accrescent, you're somehow not done with it? Sorry, I don't follow your logic.

Also, no thanks on F-Droid as GrapheneOS recommends against and there are multiple security issues:

F-Droid has far too many security and trust issues for us to recommend it. The vast majority of apps in the official F-Droid repository are built on their sketchy infrastructure and signed with their own keys. We're concerned about a future mass compromise of F-Droid users.

Even just being rooted on the stock Pixel rom is a fight.

That, I can see being more of an issue than an unmodified, trusted 3rd party OS. If I remember right, rooting makes the device fail Verified Boot:

It establishes a full chain of trust, starting from a hardware-protected root of trust to the bootloader, to the boot partition and other verified partitions including system, vendor, and optionally oem partitions.

I'd rather this come with the Pixel Tablet 2 and the Pixel Tablet skipped it form some reason) and MTE, which GrapheneOS says is the most significant addition to security since they've started the OS. If those come with the 10, not to mention the 10 is supposed to have Google's inhouse chip and not Samsung's...yep, I'm upgrading.

I don't even use proprietary apps so most if the "security features" aren't even useful to me

So only proprietary apps may have malware? Malware aside, only proprietary apps may have bugs that can be exploited? And all nonproprietary apps are perfectly safe? But seriously, there is so much wrong with that thinking.

Apps aside, GrapheneOS protects the actual OS and is kept up to date, much quicker than pretty much any other variant.

It is overly complex for no benefit to me.

What's overly complex? Contact and storage scope I mentioned? You don't have to use it. Separate profiles for work I mentioned? Again, don't have to use it. GrapheneOS is one of the closest OSes to AOSP that I've seen. You could even just install the Play Store (which is in a sandbox by default, with no root, and you don't have to do anything to specify that), only use the owner profile, and you get all of the security benefits with no extra work. You introducing F-Droid and using all nonproprietary apps is more complex than GrapheneOS out of the box.

Graphene sucks the life of android in my humble option.

What's not "fun" or lifeless about it? It's a phone. I use it exactly as I would a normal Pixel, with the exception of having the convenience of Google Wallet.

Everything is about security with anything else being second.

Would you rather it be all about fun/having life with everything else being second? That doesn't sound safe. And I'm still confused about you saying it having no life.

I will say what I do differently vs a normal Pixel, is I use the storage scopes and lock certain apps to certain folders as well as contact scopes to lock certain apps to only see certain people. I don't use my phone for work, but if I did, that would be a separate profile/user.

our team decided to make them mutually exclusive, therefore, at this moment you will not be able to utilize the Killswitch feature and have access to your LAN

Yeah, I got the same reason when I asked about that issue with Android (GrapheneOS). I didn't run into this issue on Windows. I don't recall Mullvad running into this issue, either.

ProtonVPN has also been the only known app impacting GrapheneOS shipping a DNS leak fix due to "Proton is doing something weird" that other apps aren't doing. Proton is also convinced they're programing their app correct and aren't open to fixing it....whereas Mullvad did when prompted.

Lastly...if the Killswitch and LAN access are mutually exclusive, why does Proton let me turn both on and not explain it? You'd think if you turned on the Killswitch, it would grey out the LAN access with a note saying you can't have both. And if you try to turn on the LAN access with Killswitch on? It should pop up with a notification saying you can't have both with a yes/no prompt to take you to the Killswitch settings to turn that off if desired.

Apple is bringing RCS to the iPhone in iOS 18 www.theverge.com

Apple has announced that its Messages app will support the RCS messaging standard in iOS 18. RCS offers more advanced features compared to traditional SMS, including higher-quality media, typing indicators, and end-to-end encryption. This move will improve messaging between iOS and Android devices, which currently rely on the less capable SMS protocol. Apple's decision to add RCS support likely comes in response to pressure from Google, Samsung, and European regulators who have pushed for better cross-platform messaging. Overall, this change will bring the iPhone's messaging capabilities more in line with the Android experience. As a result, GPT-4o has now been used across various features in Assistant: * Default model for [Research Expert mode](https://kagi.com/assistant?mode=7\&sub_mode=2) and [Code assistant](https://kagi.com/assistant?mode=5\&sub_mode=NaN) * Used for interpreting and working with uploaded files, including images * Available through [Chat Assistant](https://kagi.com/assistant?mode=4\&sub_mode=15) *Note: Kagi Assistant is available as open beta for Ultimate plan members* ### Recipe extraction/summarizer Kagi Universal Summarizer now automatically identifies when you are summarizing a recipe and conveniently [displays both the ingredients and the cooking steps](https://kagi.com/summarizer/index.html?target_language=\&summary=takeaway\&url=https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/spaghetti_alla_carbonara/) [](https://kagifeedback.org/d/3937)[#3937](https://kagifeedback.org/d/3937) [@leopoldarrestrom](https://kagifeedback.org/u/leopoldarrestrom) You can use Kagi Summarizer as a standalone [Web app](https://kagi.com/summarizer), through [Kagi Search Extension](https://help.kagi.com/kagi/getting-started/setting-default.html#browser_extension) in your browser or [directly in search results](https://help.kagi.com/kagi/ai/summarize-page.html).\ ![](https://kagifeedback.org/assets/files/2024-05-14/1715718631-691299-image.png) ##### Additional notes for Family / Team account members When setting up a Family or Team account, you now have the ability to add names for each member. Lawnchair 14 is here! | Lawnchair Blogs https://lawnchair.app/blog/lawnchair-14/

This announcement is from the Lawnchair Discord: Lawnchair 14 has arrived! After about 2 years, we're delighted to announce that **Lawnchair 14 has finally arrived!** Based on Launcher3 from Android 14, this release works with QuickSwitch from Android 10 to Android 14! You won't need to use an older version to integrate with the system. Some major highlights: • Search your phone, the web, and more with our new **Global Search** — no root needed!¹ • View flight info, see surrounding traffic, and keep an eye on your data usage with **Smartspacer** — all integrated within Lawnchair.² • Want to further control your icons? Fret not, We now support custom icon packs for themed icons, alongside some new icon options.³ • Themers rejoice — you can now **hide the Dock** for a cleaner home screen. You can also change even more colors, fonts, and padding. • Are you tired of Lawnchair crashing because of widgets? We've fixed that issue; you won’t need to do some hacky workaround to add them.⁴ Alongside that, we have a new partnership with [Startpage](https://startpage.com) — searching with Startpage (via the dock search bar or App Drawer search) helps support Lawnchair’s development. We still have more things to share! See the [announcement on our website](https://lawnchair.app/blog/lawnchair-14) for more information. ¹ Experimental feature, requires opt in Lawnchair Settings. ² Requires Smartspacer and respective plugins. ³ Requires a supported icon pack . ⁴ May still persist depending on the device.

Haier hits Home Assistant plugin dev with takedown notice www.bleepingcomputer.com

cross-posted from: https://poptalk.scrubbles.tech/post/567593 > Haier hits Home Assistant plugin dev with takedown notice > > I'm not really big on "let's make a movement", but this independent dev has been hit with a cease-and-desist from making a FOSS Home Assistant addon for their Haier air conditioners. > > Haier claims that they are losing out on millions of dollars due to this plugin which... lets you control their air conditions from home assistant. They haven't bothered to explain _how_ that's possibly worth millions of dollars - they're just claiming it. > > So of course they hit the Streisand button and are demanding that he takes it down. He of course is complying... in a couple of days. Maybe you see where this is going. > > It would be an absolute shame if any of you just happened to create a fork, or clone the code, or mirror it in your own instance. An absolute shame. > > Just so everyone here knows which repositories NOT to clone or fork, here are the two links: > > - https://github.com/Andre0512/hon > - https://github.com/Andre0512/pyhOn > > and please, don't repost this anywhere, or share it in other communities, or anything like that. It's a shame that so many people already know and are making clones. I'm just letting you know so you don't do anything like telling others who may make their own copies. > > (_sidenote: Haier owns GE Appliance, so for our American folks it may affect you folks too_)

Availability (feature?) Request: Publish app to Accrescent App Store

Please add Voyager to the [Accrescent App Store](https://accrescent.app/), "a private and secure Android app store built with modern features in mind. It aims to provide a developer-friendly platform and pleasant user experience while enforcing modern security and privacy practices and offering robust validity guarantees for installed apps." This app store, while small, is supposed to be more secure than alternatives. And yes it is small, but it also won't grow if devs don't add to it. Their publishing guide and requirements can be found here: https://accrescent.app/docs/guide/publish/requirements.html

v1.23.1: New Donation/IAP has missing background

New Donation/IAP has missing background. Looks like it should have a background, but doesn't, so some words are on top of each other. This is on light mode, whereas dark mode doesn't have this issue. v1.23.1 Edit: v1.23.2 fixes this.

[Feature Request] Add Subscribe/Unsubscribe to the long click (where Block is)

Pretty much the title. That way Block isn't so lonely in its own long click menu. Also, they're both two sides of the same coin, so makes sense to have them together.
