Unrelated, but we have a near identical feed
Basically the title but I have a few requirements I’d love to meet. I have a “Smart Soundbar” that I actually quite like the audio of, as well as serving as an HDMI hub and switch, with a decent remote ect. Basically I like the hardware quite a bit and it is generally high quality, particularly the audio quality, it’s from a reputable home audio company, blah blah blah. I got it as part of some promo with my ISP so it has their slightly customized version of Android TV on it. I’ve already gotten side loading apps working, I have my YouTube client and VPN running, Jellyfin, all that. Now I just want to get rid of all the google apps and ISP tweaks. I would also love to maintain some sort of casting option akin to chromecast or AirPlay. Is there an Android app that turns a device into an AirPlay receiver? I have one for Linux. I realize the “best” option is to not connect the thing to the Internet, but that defeats the purpose of having access to say the Netflix app with my VPN running. Or giving relatives a “Netflix” like experience with my Jellyfin server running offsite. Just looking for any advice on maintaining functionality of the high quality speaker and generally good Android TV interface while clawing back some privacy. I’d be willing to flash it with something totally different though if anyone know how to do that.

If I may project a little, I think the commenter is pointing to language that’s been cropping up essentially calling big name republicans traitors for endorsing Kamala. While you’re more than allowed to interpret what they said literally, I read it has intentionally a bit hyperbolic to make the point that a huge portion of the Republican Party will literally blindly follow him, even if the party leaders are starting to flake.
Just remember, rewording this statement:
If big name Republicans aren’t going to vote for him, why are you assuming all other Republicans will?
To the version that would exemplify your interpretation:
If big name Republicans are going to vote for him, why are you assuming all other Republicans will?
Still creates an equally bold, and hyperbolic claim. Sometimes people use words like “all” and don’t really mean every last person. I blame the English language, not the people taking words literally, for misunderstandings like this.
Just remember, especially with politics, people often hype up language a bit, it makes statements carry more oomph, and can help keep supporters excited for whatever movement they are supporting.

You might already have something picked out, but for potential future reader I’m reviving this thread a little to add another good word for the Healthy Rips vapes. In an effort to deep, deep, clean (I’m talking definitely voiding any warranty type deep) my old piece I killed the power button. Even though I had a few issues with the design of the vape, I ordered a new one with little hesitation as I liked the first more than anything else I’ve tried. Plus, it lasted me 5+ years and way exceeded my expectations for price compared to how much “material” was put through it in its lifetime.
When I got the new one I was pleasantly surprised they in the years since buying the original, almost all of my design issues were addressed and I’d now recommend the vape even more so.

Yeah, I was running it through Tailscale too. I’m definitely closer to a newbie than I am a self hosting vet, so there’s likely some fault of mine that made things not run so well.

Yeah I had my eye on this a few months back when I was looking for a FOSS windows Remote Desktop alternative. Between the security issues, and generally struggle to get it working well, I eventually went to a sunshine/moonlight combo for shockingly high performance screen sharing that can even handle basic gaming if need be.

I’ve worked on one of these that sails off the coast of New England. It was a passenger boat that would do week long cruises. Long, tough hours, but the view from the office each morning was unbeatable.

I took degoogling as an opportunity to review and purge a lot of accounts and actually hold myself to going through the GDPR data removal requests and all that. I refreshed passwords and emails of accounts I actually wanted to keep, and pretty much ditched the rest. If the account never made it into my password manager in the first place it clearly wasn’t very important, so it can bounce around cyberspace forever I guess.

I’ve stopped playing since Microsoft copilot was announced and I fully ditched windows, but I held on until the final raid because of the gun play, nostalgia, and the representation present in both the studio and the game. I grew up with the Marathon games, and the early Halo series. The DNA of those games is still there and I can’t help but love it. I’ve been chasing a single player experience that gets even close to Destiny’s feel for so long. The System Shock remake is getting close, but I would love a PvE only game from Bungie. For a long time (read pre-Sony-buyout) Bungie was also a sort of hold out for various minority representations I try to support. The studio’s media showed an employee base that is diverse and they often did a good job pushing back against players saying any sort of agenda was being pushed just for including diversity in the game. This made them a company I was much more willing to throw money at, compared to say, activision/blizzard. That sentiment as largely faded for me as the studio had been turned into a “for the shareholders” cow Sony can milk.

This is incredible!! Could you describe the process? Are you just repositioning your hands as the scanner head moves? I’d love try to screen print that or something. The gradients are super delicate, and it almost looks like a pixel sort effect. Just all around very cool.

Dreams of Code on YouTube has a video for a full start to finish arch install specifically including full disk encryption. While my computer is far from “slow” it’s also nothing crazy, and other than adding a second password to my bootup process, the decrypting really doesn’t take long.

Yeah I suppose, I think there’s a certain visual associated with it that gear plays a part of. Like big wall harness, TCPros, and chalk bucket clipped in the front, trying to top out some boulder that ends on a jug or something.

EDIT: I’d like to clarify I agree about the gatekeeping this reinforces and this really doesn’t get used often, and if anything it sees more use among friends for silly reasons, like missing a Velcro on a shoe or something. Like I said I don’t know the origin because I don’t really engage with the “joke” that much.

I’ve been playing the System Shock remake, and it’s been a dream!! It could be a tad more hand holdy, particularly with actually presenting the story, but it’s very true to the style at the time, leaving you to just explore an “abandoned” space ship to figure out what happened. It feels very Bioshock, meets Metroid, meets Marathon, meets Alien Isolation.
Metro 2033, and I’m fairly confident the 2 sequels, has also been running very smoothly. I plan to do a full play through of all 3 games having played the first 2 zones of metro exodus years ago and falling in love with the world building. Something I realized I was missing in a lot of games was full voice acting. If there are captions/words/subtitles on the screen someone is saying them out loud. I guess in world words like posters and such no, obviously not, but even the “loading screen” are these lovely journal/map moments, reminiscent of travel transitions in old films. They come with a fully voice acted paragraph to make it not feel like a loading screen at all, but a transition in the “film” or chapters of the game. This makes sense being based on books. The story is just given to you so well, while also allowing enough freedom to make it feel like you are an active part.

Confirmed running on Linux under proton. I started replaying it just the other week. Struggled to get back into it for a second time, but not because it’s a bad game, I’m just a very different person from the one that got a lot from that story. Would absolutely recommend the game.

I’ve hit a point where I’ll ask staff for their Venmo and pay them directly if I really feel compelled to support them for quality service. Particularly at a lot of bars or clubs I do this. I don’t really drink much, so I’ll often go whole nights just getting waters from a bartender and then ask them for their Venmo so I can still tip them for all the free water. I’m also generally willing to tip well at local small businesses where half the time I know the people working there.

I have one, but I don’t have any sort of routine with it. I’ve used it here and there if I want to sort of extend the working time of shaving my face. Let’s say I’ve got a night out, maybe spending the night somewhere other than home, and I want to still have a smooth-ish face the next morning, then I’ll use it.

Lmaooo!! The tits on my chest say I’ve got my “babe” card I think. Cringe doesn’t exist and I won’t get into the irony of you mansplaining the sexist history of the word “babe” to a gal. My “response” was that you’re being unnecessarily inflammatory without being constructive. The post did not make me feel bad because I’m confident in my support of my community both local and global. I am in fact doing what my means allow for as many people as possible as I believe many of the people on this app are. Maybe these memes are a cry for help because you are actually self conscious of not having done more for your various communities and you now exist largely alone, both in person and in digital spaces. But that’s a whole different discussion for your therapist.
Welcome to the library, you been read.

Babe you’re seriously missing the point. I think the vast majority of people here are aware there’s a genocide happening. I’d say plenty have done their best to directly support those affected according to our means. The “stopping genocide” is happening in other places, and you’re invited, if you can look past the unnecessarily inflammatory memes.
At a point this is barely a discussion of politics and social issues, and just your delivery being, to be frank, mid. You’re just posting stuff designed to make people feel bad for taking care of as many people as they can, both at home and the world over. We’re all on board, now let’s talk and organize and go DO, not repost weird backwards right wing talking points.
Arkhive 3 weeks ago • 77%
Seriously I’m not trying to start T, but I can’t help but feel there’s a disconnect in the memes you’re posting, and the takes you’re having in the comments. To me this meme, and others you have posted, seem to try to catch progressives, dems, leftists, whatever demographic, in this sort of gotcha that is the same gotcha that actual right wing actors are trying to use to push potential voters for Harris to vote third party or not at all. Does voting for Harris still make us complicit in genocide. Yeah, sure, probably, but putting Trump in office makes us all a whole lot more than complicit. I think we are in agreement. Genocide bad. Trump bad. Trump make genocide worse. Harris not great. But Harris better for US and probably for Palestine in the long term.
Idk, maybe consider shifting your posting away from right wing “gotchas” to things that actually get people discussing the issues rather than trying to make them feel bad for feeling trapped in the two party system and maybe accidentally pushing them away from participating in the political process. Seems like it’s bringing heat your way from commenters, and honestly, the whole “I’m just being devils advocate because someone has to be” is just making you a blah person to interact with no matter how you plan to vote, who you support where, and which issues are deal breakers for you. Tbh we aren’t really in a position to be picky.

I was just recommended a video about this game earlier today. I had already opened this thread, but had not read everything yet. I’m taking it as a sign. Terrafirmacraft is one of my fav Minecraft modpacks, and Vintage Story looked to lean into what TFC was trying to do to Minecraft. Cheers for the recommendation!!

Oh damn. Okay, realizing that a lot of my “pickiness” with clothes was actually a ‘tism thing opened a lot of doors, but also turned into a bit of a rollercoaster. I started my transition at the same time as it really clicked I was neurodivergent so my desires to explore fashion I felt I had been robbed of clashed with my sensory stuff.
I prefer tighter under-things, not going into detail why, but hopefully y’all can piece it together. Most of my shirts are 100% cotton, mostly looser and cropped shorter because I’ve got a tiny torso. I hate it when I feel like a shirt is sticking around my hips and has to pull itself up when I lean/twist. So loose flowy tops generally, unless I’m going for a specific fashion moment. This extends to bras. Usually softer “t-shirt” bras, but I can put up with something less comfortable so long as I look particularly good in it and I’m not wearing it for a full day.
Pants have been a journey. I used to get really bad eczema on the backs of my knees, so for a long time I only wore shorts. Year round, rain, shine, snow. Jeans in particular were a real struggle as a kid. I grew out of my eczema, so I’ve forced myself to at least try a lot of the pants I hated as a kid again. This made me discover the wonderful world of second hand jeans. The big reason I couldn’t handle jeans as a kid was I would be trying new, un-broken in, jeans, and they are just waaaaayyyyy too scratchy.
Outer layers. Idk, so long as my base is comfy, I use outer layers as fashion opportunities.
Oh v necks or at least relaxed neck line shirts only. Normal t-shirt neck lines feel like I’m being choked, and not in the fun way.
I got long winded, I think that’s most of the specifics I usually deal with.

I also want to get into this!! I’m over six foot, and like 75% legs now that I wear my pants in the right spot. Buying pants is quite literally impossible on a bad day, and compromising on a good day. I do have a few YouTube creators for making your own underwear, but I’ll have to track them down later. Please remind me if I haven’t done that in like a day or so. The one I’m thinking of does mostly lingerie, but she might have videos of more basics further back in her catalogue.

I also have a pair of those and I like them. You kind of need to adjust your expectations and realize the specific use case. Hi-Fi they are not, but the point is to leave your ears open to the sounds of your environment and in that they excel. Would recommend.

I know 5 trans masc people. Though I think only one of them is binary trans. 2 of them are into tech though, and all of them are quite nerdy. In fact I know fewer femmes, including myself, than I know mascs, and I’m the only cliche, techy, arch Linux installing, trans femme of that group.

Worse, but I think a big part of that has been giving myself the space to have those sensory response moments, and just like understanding myself better, being more patient with myself, stuff like that.
For some reason I can only find stock images of this pill case. I have it on good authority it makes a satisfying clicking noise and my gay, neurodivergent ass wants one. Ideally not an Amazon link, I deleted my account a bit ago and I do not plan to make a new one. UPDATE: It would seems this is a prepackaged way E is sometimes distributed. Thanks to folks that pointed this out.
picture is of a Hatsune Miku edited to be sitting at a table from a Calvin and Hobs comic, with a sign on the front of the table reading "Hatsune Miku (creator of Minecraft) is very deserving of this meme format"
I realize that the lines of text in a normal file have gaps between then, which almost instantly renders this impossible, but I’ll ask anyway. I’m looking for a way to get diagrams like [ASCIIFlow](https://asciiflow.com/#/) in my notes. I’d even settle for a dedicated tab/filetype similar to canvas. My use case here is input with a stylus on a tablet and the original site struggles. Just doing weird things with highlighting random text, because the whole page is text. Canvas kind of does what I want, but there is a speed and elegance to ACSII flow, with the added ability to copy the result as text. I often use Obsidian to write documentation, and various system diagrams often come up. Being able to use characters rather than an image would be great. In case the “” in the title aren’t clear, I cannot actually offer any financial compensation for this, should a plugin actually be made.
