Hi there, I have decided to take down waveform.social. There are too many nefarious actors trying to break it and I don't have the time or energy to keep fighting them off. For your information: Over the pas month I have had to: 1. Add various DDOS prevention measures to block unwanted (repeated) signups. 2. Delete a bunch of literal white noise uploads that filled my 4TB picture storage... Twice. 3. Repair Lemmy (or rather pictures) after it crashed because of full storage. I will keep waveform.social active until Friday next week so you can pull data from here, though I expect most of it has been federated to other servers anyway.
Since this community is going away and at least one other person sounded interested in a Discord server, I've gone ahead and created one: https://discord.gg/CsGN9zzC I've created channels for synthesizers and music production so far, but I'm very open to adding other channels depending on interest. If this doesn't get any traction in the next week or so it will probably be abandoned, so please drop in soon if you're at all interested. (I'm "Thoughtquake" on Discord.)

I am thinking about adding some functionality to this instance (audio and video upload) which probably requires me to make changes to the themes. So Lemmy (the software that runs this website) allows admins to define taglines. When people visit the website a random one shows up. Any funny suggestions that work with the theme of this instance? 
Hi there, This site has a focus on music. Not being able to share audio clips makes no sense. Of course you can use a third party tool to share audio clips but I think the barrier is too big. Here’s what I want to do: I want to create a micro application that allows people to upload audio or video clips to be able to embed them into their posts. The design goals are: - low barrier of entry - good viewing experience - useful on mobile Now I can easily do the technical stuff (upload and store files, embedding, deployment) but I’ve always had a hard time with graphical design for small apps with very few features. Would any of you have the skills and time to contribute a design?

I started a music production community on sh.itjust.works [here](/c/musicproduction@sh.itjust.works) and I want to crosspost my stuff from there so that music-centered instances can get better content and traction. I'm new to Lemmy as most people seem to be right now, so I don't really know how to approach this best. I don't see any pre-made general music production community on Waveform and I'm okay with making my own and keeping an eye on it. Would creating a separate community here from a local account and then giving myself mod at my instance be a good idea or should I do something different (per your advice)?

I would occasionally pop into the LiveSound and AudioEngineering subreddits. Is there any interest in hosting those here? They seem to fit in with the theme of this server. Just a thought!
I'm just wondering how upvotes work. I noticed that I already had one upvote on each of my comments and assumed someone else had done it, then noticed that the up arrow button was blue, implying that I had done it. Do you automatically upvote your own comments, or did I press something by accident? heh :)

I got started on an app for this community. I’ve got a basic integration and spent most time on project setup. My plan is to post an update every week with what I did and what I expect to do next week. ## Next Week I will be working on the comments viewer and maybe making an attempt at a login function. I also expect to set up a beta program for iOS so you can help me test if you want to. (Android will follow later).
I was trying to search for !main@midwest.social so I could subscribe with this account. However, I couldn't find any of the midwest.social communities aside from the synthesizers one. Is that by design, a bug, or am I doing something wrong? My process: open Communities. Search !main@midwest.social. I leave the Community and Creator fields set to All. Search again as I've seen some people instruct to do. Nothing populates.
Made this with the multitrack editor on Audition, and it's mostly electro, I guess. Hope you enjoy it! :)

Hi. I am excited about waveform.social. I already use have an account at mastodon.social, which is another ActivityPub application. In theory, Lemmy and Mastodon should be able to "see" each other. It should be possible to look up a Lemmy user or community from Mastodon, see the posts, and reply to them. This will be ugly in the interfaces but it is expected to work. If I go to mastodon.social, and I type @mcc@waveform.social into the search box, it does not recognize @mcc@waveform.social as a Fediverse address. This is not a problem I have with other Lemmy servers. Other Lemmy servers I can at minimum look up the users and see their profiles (sometimes I cannot see the posts without following first). This makes me believe it is not a problem with the Lemmy software. Also, the problem is not limited to mastodon.social. Users on other Mastodon servers see the same problem. So this makes me believe it is not a problem with mastodon.social's moderation setup. In a discussion on mastodon.social, we came to the conclusion this problem may be (1) on waveform.social's end, and (2) due to your frontend caching/CDN/WAF setup. Of course edge caching is a good idea. But it appears you need to configure it a certain way to be compatible with Fediverse servers. As is, waveform.social might not even be fully compatible with other Lemmy servers. I do not fully understand all of these issues (my Mastodon development has been in mobile clients only) and I don't know what your server-side setup looks like. If I am describing this wrong I apologize. All I know for sure is it does not work. If you can identify that the "no visibility" problem is happening at the side of Mastodon.social or the Mastodon software, I can go raise the issue at that end. I am good at pestering the Mastodon devs :) Thanks!
