Teams Runs Hot Then Disconnects Audio

I have a recurring issue where MS Teams makes my Framework run insanely hot. It then disconnects audio halfway through calls. Video still works, but looses audio. GPU hardware acceleration has no affect. It's extremely frustrating when on client calls. Only common factors are me and the framework - all other setups no issue. Any ideas?

13" shells?

Does anyone know if protective shells exist for framework laptops? Or is there something approximately close that'll fit? I know they're repairable etc but if I can avoid denting the sucker it'd be great. If not, I know (just) enough to model one on blender if someone fancied 3d printing one? I'm sure that's not beyond the realm of possibility

Question for anyone who bought a Crucial RAM kit

Edit: thank you, so it seems I have to finally put it inside the Framework :) Just a doubt, the kit arrived without a proper package but just like this: https://preview.redd.it/6cmnzwxqp14c1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07a9d6bc973536238c9f9c8ac81afe364612c53d inside the main package with other items of the same order. Is it normal? It doesn't seem to me very protective for a quite expensive product. Actually it seems quite strange, I'm starting to suspect that was someone's return that has not included the original package: https://preview.redd.it/h2tlg6urp14c1.jpg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1bfcdc794c7b28ca9df3c6a4f635e1b5f16bccc For instance I bought also a SSD and it was inside two carboard packages of his own. What about your kit?

DDR5 RAM questions

Hello, I'm struggling to find all the seemingly relevant information regarding the RAM offered by Framework. I'm in queue for a Framework 13 AMD variant, and I'm stuck weighing up my options for which RAM to purchase. So far as I can tell, For DDR5 5600 SO-DIMM RAM to be fully utilised you need XMP support for some products on the market. I understand that the firmware on the Framework motherboards don't support XMP profiles currently. I also understand that the lower the CL rating the better the product is by one metric. I also understand that to fully utilise your RAM you should have two sticks so that dual channel benefits occur. With this and other information in mind I want to get 1x32gb DDR5, another in the future, That has the lowest CL That natively can reach 5600hz without an XMP profile. I'm looking at both Framework's RAM and Kingston Fury. I can't find much information on Framework's RAM. I recall Kingston FURY needs XMP to be fully utilised with a CL of 40. Is Framework's option better in that it doesn't need an XMP profile to be fully utilised? How does the CL rating compare to Kingston FURY? Ignoring the price, which is the better product? Excuse if I have misunderstood anything. Thank you for your help Edit: I can't find a spec sheet for Framework's RAM options. There website to me was very bare. Does anyone have information on this? Thank you.

Which wifi card and speakers to use with the AMD board?

I'm supposed to be getting my AMD board for my Framework tomorrow. I'm currently running a 12th gen board, with the 80db speaker kit and whichever Intel wifi card came with the laptop. I've heard that the original speaker kit (I still have it) actually is better with the AMD board, and that the AMD mediatek wifi card is not as good as the intel card. Is it worth swapping the old speakers back in and keeping the Intel wifi card? Thanks for any advice!

Does anyone know how the fan speed of the framework laptop 13 is controlled? Is it hardware based or does there exist software or API with which you can tweak your fan curve. I'm just curious to know it. Thanks in advance.

Increasing battery life of 12th Gen Intel by limiting CPU frequency

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone tried limiting their Framework Intel 12th Gen laptops CPU max frequencies to a more efficient level to see if battery life is increased? I remember reading an article somewhere that says that Golden Cove P-Cores efficiency is around 3-4Ghz, Gracemont E cores are efficient below 3GHz.

Amd 13 not booting

So my AMD 13 arrived today I've installed my ram and SSD. Connected the keyboard and fully charged the battery. I've gone to do a test boot before installing windows and nothing is happening except for the power button light coming on. I've seen people mention a led flashing colours but there's no led's flashing. Have I done something wrong? Is it broken or is this just what it does without a os installed?

My Experience with Framework Support

This is a follow up to my previous post [Super Slow Download Speeds on my 12th Gen Framework 13 with Intel AX210](https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/16pmk1v/super_slow_download_speeds_on_my_12th_gen/) from about 2 months ago. Long story short, I am experiencing very slow download speeds over Wi-Fi while my upload speeds are pretty good, 75 Mbps - 120 Mbps down and 300 Mbps - 400+ Mbps up. These speeds are consistent on multiple networks in several locations. On to my experience with Framework support... Framework e-mail support is very good. They always follow up even if it takes a day or two and seem to have enough knowledge about the products to offer helpful advice and know when to escalate the the issue if necessary. The only criticism I have for the e-mail team is that I did have to repeat myself several times, most likely due to the responding support representative not thoroughly reviewing previous communications. After going back and forth with e-mail support over a period of three weeks, replacements for both the Intel AX210 Wi-Fi adapter and the wireless antenna were shipped to me. I was able to replace them without too much trouble. I was not required to ship back the "defective" parts, most likely due to their relatively low value. Unfortunately for me, replacing these components did not improve Wi-Fi download performance. There was no significant change in download or upload speed. E-mail support then escalated the issue. I was given the option to ship my laptop to the Framework Repair Center on their dime so their technicians could troubleshoot the issue themselves. They were unable to give me a time frame for the repair. While a bit reluctant, I agreed. According to FedEx tracking, it took a little less than a week for the Repair Center to receive my laptop. I did not receive any updates from Framework without first asking, and while e-mail support was good about replying in a timely manner on behalf of the repair center, this is not great customer service. All-in-all, the Repair Center had my laptop on their bench for over two weeks and determined that the speeds they were getting, admittedly a bit better than mine at 215 Mbps down, were consistent with other Framework laptops. While the download speed they achieved was better, it is still well below the almost 400+ Mbps I am able to get from the other devices on my network (MacBooks, iPhones, a Chromebook, and a Pixel 7). They also recommended replacing my battery because it would only charge to 76%. I have a battery charging limit set in the BIOS because my laptop is docked most of the time. The tech at the Repair Center didn't bother to check this setting which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in their ability to be thorough. I informed e-mail support of this so they didn't waste any time troubleshooting the battery. After they were done testing, it took the Repair Center over a week before they shipped the laptop back. It literally just sat there. The laptop finally arrived home the day before Thanksgiving. Including round-trip shipping, I was without my laptop for a month. I first reached out to Framework about my Wi-Fi performance issue on September 23rd. I got my laptop back from the Repair Center on November 22nd. My Wi-Fi download speeds are still not what they should be, and the Framework Repair Center claims there is nothing wrong. A lot of time and effort was wasted over the past two month by myself and by Framework. Overall, the e-mail support was good. The response time was not always great, but they are a young company. I'm sure it will get better over time. I could definitely tell they were trying their best. I have nothing nice to say about the Repair Center. There was no uninitiated communication. Even though the results of their testing were below spec for both Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6, their tech claims there is nothing wrong. The tech thought there was an issue with my battery because the they didn't bother to check a simple BIOS setting. They basically ran a speed test and called it a day. After finding "no issues," they held the laptop for more than week before they sent it back. I can only conclude that either the Repair Center did not do enough troubleshooting to find the problem with Wi-Fi performance, Framework has a serious design flaw with Wi-Fi antenna placement in the 13 that is affecting download performance, or the Intel AX210 is just garbage. In any case, I am no longer feeling great about my purchase. I was going to upgrade to the latest AMD board in another year or so, but now I am rethinking this. I might have to go back to Dell.

An upgradable laptop seems kind of pointless when the screen and speakers are not upgradable and are subpar..

I really like the concept but the speakers and screen aren't premium at all. I have a decade old Dell XPS. Similar weight, but it has a much better 4k AMOLED screen and better speakers and a touch screen. It's not really worth it to me to upgrade to something that isn't better all around, or at least has a screen that exceeds my current one in some ways. If Framework offered a screen upgrade (both in quality and touch screen) and better speakers it'd probably be an instant buy for me. But why would I want to keep the shell of a laptop that isn't premium?

Turn-around-time for Framework Support Requests

What is the usual turn-around-time for a Framework Support ticket? I contacted Support on Monday evening and am yet to hear back from them. I haven't even received an Support Ticket until now. **** Details: My Framework AMD 13 was delivered on Monday. Everything seems to working well except some keys on the keyboard are not registering (I am typing this from an external keyboard). The users in Framework Community suggested that I try contacting official Framework Support because this could be a possible hardware issue with a bent pin or a damaged socket. I raised a Support Ticket on Monday evening and since then, I haven't heard anything from their end. I realize that this may be a busy time for them and that they would be getting support requests from all over given all the order deliveries. So, I don't want to raise *another* ticket just to clog their system. But an email with a ticket number would have been nice.

Screen cable not glued, bezel damaged

When I received my laptop, I found the bezel a bit difficult to press. After I thought it was tightened, I heard a clicking sound when I closed the screen and it was hard to open it after it was closed. I realized that the bezel was stuck to the bottom of the case. I took it apart again and found that the double sided tape on the screen cable had not been removed, so the cable was not in place, causing the bezel to lift.(Photo 2) I thought the cable should be glued like photo 3. It would be great if I could get a new bezel.😭 https://preview.redd.it/n07uxfcjdh3c1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48b88a8f358ab6f92c123e43cd3832f2d6a37ad8 https://preview.redd.it/t3fziksldh3c1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55b3b92ab633965bdc7a9275742fe06d10ffda07 https://preview.redd.it/2kj9kkandh3c1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=888c1d5268f56a896ab618f532f54e4e90acc958

USB mouse is not recognised

I've had this issue with my framework laptop where the usba dongle for my wireless mouse is not recognised until I take it, and it's expansion card out a bunch of times. This always takes a long time of fiddling and I feel like doing this every single day might damage the expansion slots. If I run LSUSB the dongle shows up like: Bus 005 Device 002: ID 32ac:0002 [unknown] [unknown] Did anyone else have this issue? I have no idea what it could be personally. I'd prefer the expansion slots just work like regular usb ports.

Just did my first repair.

Bought a framework 12th Gen Intel back in 2022. I've only had two issues with it: The HDMI card interfering with the sleep cycle (replaced with new generation HDMI card), and right after warranty expired my webcam module stopped being able to pick up sound for some reason. I'm annoyed that the webcam module died so soon, but it was pretty darn cool to just be able to order a replacement part and easily install it in under 5 minutes. If that happened on my Surface Laptop it would have meant a whole new laptop. I'm loving Framework.

Do you think Framework will ever abandon the OG FW13 design? (and have 2 models?)

One thing I've wondered about the FW is if it will look pretty much exactly the same 3, 5 or even 10 years down the line. Not that I think theres anything wrong with the design (its just about perfect), but I wonder if FW will release a "new version" that isn't fully swappable with the old version. My guess would be they release a new "shell" that may or may not be compatible with the old motherboard, maybe smaller bezels, or whatever new thing is popular at the time. Maybe they just decide to release a very similar shell, but that is made from new materials with some minor changes that make things so that they arent fully backwards-compatible. I think they'll release updated boards for the old gen for maybe 2 generations before only making new board for the "new"design. Im predicting this will happen in around 3-4 generations from now. What do you think?

No Display After First Boot (AMD Laptop 13)

I received my Framework Laptop 13 (AMD) today after waiting for quite a while. I bought all framework components except for my own NVME SSD. Unfortunately, after assembling it, I am getting no display when the laptop turns on, even after waiting \~30 mins. I've tried reseating the RAM and moving it to the other slot. The flashing LEDs show all green for diagnostics, and the following POST sequence: 10011111. I believe this means no boot device. However, I do not see a logo on the screen or BIOS so I can't choose a boot device. I suspect the display may be broken. I have already contacted support. Any advice? Pretty dissapointed after waiting so long.

I have been looking at lapdocks for a while now and it hit me. Wouldn't a Framework Lapdock be a neat product? You buy the shell and everything, no internals specs (CPU GPU RAM), just ports and whatnot to use with your phone or PC. Then in the future get the internal specs modules. Not sure if it's feasible but it was a neat yet niche idea while it lasted.
