Why Boeing needs to be run by engineers and not bean counters

Why Boeing needs to be run by engineers and not bean counters Really insightful video about what has gone wrong. Among the points Casey makes is that Boeing imported Jack Welch's GE management culture. This has included a focus on short-term profits over engineering, and practises such as stack ranking. Boeing, as a major defence contractor and (direct and indirect) employer, is too big to fail. And Casey argues that either the Board or, if they're unwilling, the US government, needs to clear out the senior management and introduce an engineer-led management team: [https://youtu.be/d3u7F256wKM?si=1D5MNSQ2EyLvRmL-](https://youtu.be/d3u7F256wKM?si=1D5MNSQ2EyLvRmL-) [\#Boeing](https://aus.social/tags/Boeing) [#engineer](https://aus.social/tags/engineer) [#engineering](https://aus.social/tags/engineering) [@engineering](https://lemmy.ml/c/engineering) [#capitalism](https://aus.social/tags/capitalism) [#business](https://aus.social/tags/business) [#finance](https://aus.social/tags/finance) [#politics](https://aus.social/tags/politics)

Career Options - Civil

Hi all, What are directions I could go as a civil/geotechnical engineer where there would be less focus on work being quantified through billable hours? I've got interest in code and data visualization. I love getting outside. I'm about 5 years into my career with a master's degree. Any thoughts/opinions/experiences to share?

What factors are involved in calculating how much compression force is being applied to a 3D printed part between two aluminum strips?

For each additional screw that I add to the above project with a specific torque, say 2ft/lbs, what additional factors do I need to take into consideration to be able to calculate compression force across an entire 3D part? Obviously, I don't have enough data to solve for anything at this point. I would just like to learn how to visualize this problem with proper maths. (For this project, I am just using the "mor screw, mor better" approach. However, I will need to reduce weight eventually.) Cheers and take care!
