First time canoe camping

Borrowed a canoe from a friend and canoed across a lake to camp. It was fun, hiked up to explore some more lakes from our camp. The dog didn't love the canoe, but did fine. The water was some of the clearest I've ever seen, will be returning to do some freediving. I do think I still prefer backpacking over canoe-camping. We rowed just over 2 miles to get to camp.

Confused about sleeping bag temperature ratings

Where I live it rarely gets down to 32 degrees. I bought a bag that said 20 degrees. After reading the manual it said that was the extreme rating. Will this bag keep me warm at 32 degrees or not?

Any recommendations a two person backpacking tent? Preferably one during this REI sale?

I'm new to backpacking, did my first trip this year with a hammock and had a great time. Trying to get my wife into it with me. We're planning on going to Iceland in September, no trees. Plus she sleeps cold so she'll probably be more comfortable if we're in the same tent. I'm looking to spend as little as possible, we're really not sure this will be our thing going forward, it might just be something I do solo. And we already have a big six person tent for glamping with a big air mattress. I'm hoping for under $200, less if possible. But I also don't wanna buy garbage, or carry something excessively heavy. Suggestions? Edit: this seems popular and well liked? https://www.rei.com/product/185632/rei-co-op-half-dome-sl-2-tent-with-footprint

Buenas Noches

I guess nothing for pixel peepers again, but a nice spot for me. The [ultralight camp lights](https://lemmy.world/post/9760476) are all still available btw, although i'll be only able to send them in july. So nice to have a built in light switch in the tent.

Invention of the Shnozzle Bag

Who came up with this, and when? I got the impression that this is a relatively new invention, even though it seems so simple that it makes you wonder how this could even be something new. You still meet people who have not heard about it, even though they have a modern sleeping pad that could be shnozzled. Love the shnozzle.

Wild Camping near Honningsvåg (North Cape)

A bit older picture (Sept. 2022). Altough wild camping is allowed in Norway, it is not that easy to find a suitable spot where the tent can be anchored sufficiently and it is acceptably flat ... But seeing a herd of reindeers (in the background) does excuse much :)

💡 Ho, Ho, Ho! Ultralight Camp Light Giveaway 💡

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/9760093 > What's up party people. It's christmas time and i am giving away six ultralight camp lights, including batteries*. They weigh a whooping **11 g including two CR2032 batteries**. According to the seller, the power should last for thirty hours and then start dimming down when power starts to fade, so no sudden death. I have not ran them for that long so i can't say for sure. > > The wire is one meter long and has 10 LED's. Seller claims they're fine for outdoor use but doesn't look like you could go swimming with them. I have no long time experience with these lights. > > I have fixed the lights to my inner tent, so no extra set up necessary, they hardly weigh anything and roll up neatly with the tent. The switch seems quite safe from being switched on by accident (unlike the switch of my head lamp, which is an annoyance). > > I would like to only give these away to people who would try and use it for their tents. Just DM me an address that accepts letters and it'll be on its way. **First come, first serve.** Would be nice to see a follow-up photo of the lights in use but no rush and no requirement. I will delete any DM containing private information after sending and promise you that i will keep the contents to myself. > > I will edit this post once the lights are gone. > > *I am actually not sure if i can send them without any trouble including batteries, so at least if i send overseas (from Europe), i would tend to send them without. They'd be two CR2032 lithium batteries, maybe somebody knows if there'd be a problem with it. > > Hope this is not too off topic :) edit: Actually i don't think i can delete DM's. However, there's no post history required to be sent an ultralight camp light, so if you want to disassociate from your main, just DM me from a throw away account.

Mine the past few years has been tarps + ratchet straps. I love making a little tent city and having different areas for different purposes.

Any tips for Voyageur National Park? Best sites?

My wife and I are planning a trip in the coming weeks to Voyageur National Park. What are some items you wished you brought / items you brought that made your experience better? What site(s) did you stay at? We're weighing our options with picking a site close to a visitor center (<6mi) and canoeing or taking a water taxi to a more remote site. Any tips would be appreciated!

Movies while camping

Couple of friends and I like to watch movies together, so when we do some car camping we like to take a tiny projector and put on a movie. Curious if anyone else does this and if so what movies? So far we've done Blair Witch, Evil Dead, Big Money Rustlas(I know), and Infinity Pool.

Camping tent trailer questions (Camp-let)

Early this year, I went on a trip where we camped through New Zealand in the back of a converted van. I enjoyed the camping aspect more than I expected and would love to do something similar through the US. I've been researching different camper type options, as the van in NZ was rather small and adding our dog and hypothetical future children means something like that would not work out. I'd say a class B rv would be ideal, but they seem super expensive for something I would likely use a few times a year. Popup campers definitely seem like the most economical option. However, my biggest issue with getting a camper is they seem like a pain to store. This led me to recently discovering the [Camp-let](https://elwellcorp.com/product/camp-let/), which can be stored on its side. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be a thing here in the US so I would have to order it new. The cost is certainly making me hesitate. I guess my question is does anyone know of any other campers that can be stored on their side like the camp-let, that may be easier to get a hold of in the US? Anyone have experiences, positive or negative, using a tent trailer in general?

Camping out at the border between Germany and the Czech republic in the ore mountains. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day to keep on cycling.

Long and narrow sleeping pads

Sleeping pad sizes seem to be standardized somehow like this: normal: 183cm x 55cm long: 195 cm x 65cm I.e. the longer is also wider. I need extra length but not the width. (It creates complications with the limited tent floorspace.) **So, do you know any sleeping pads with dimensions around 195 cm x 55cm?** So far I have really only found two: [Robens Vapour 60](https://www.robens.de/en-gb/shop-1/outdoor-sleeping-gear/vapour-60) and [Robens Primavapour 60](https://www.robens.de/en-gb/shop-1/outdoor-sleeping-gear/primavapour-60). These work alright for warm weathers but a pad with higher R-value is still missing from my radar.

Nested Mess Kit Recommendations

I recently lost my old BSA mess kit. They really don't make them like they used to anymore, closest one that looks like it is the Coleman 5 piece nested aluminum set. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. I want something small and compact like this that has a small metal pot, pan, cup. https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Camping-Cookware-5-Piece-Aluminum/dp/B0009PUR4A/

Sleeping Pad Recommendations

My exped Synmat ul is starting to delaminate. It's only a little bit yet, but that little bit is getting bigger, so i guess i will have to buy a new mat in the not so distant future, hope it will hold up for my current trip. Any recommendations for a light, small packing isolated (i think mine has r 2.9 which is enough for me) and *kind of silent* mat? Long term usage recommendations welcome.

Vehicle camping at Mueller River, Croajingalong

Mueller River Campground has 5 vehicle-accessible sites, 3 pedestrian-access sites. Each site has access to the inlet beach for canoeing, fishing and swimming. The nearby Thurra River Campground is not currently accessible due to fires and floods taking out the bridge.

YouTube channel recommendations

Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations on YouTube channels that cover skills, tips and tricks, tools, etc that are useful for camping. YouTube has a plethora of "survival"/"prepper"/etc content that I'd rather not have to wade through. While interesting, informative, and entertaining, it's a bit more than what I'm looking for. I'm looking for content that covers more basic stuff, like: fire starting, useful knots, gear advice, finding safe water sources, first aid, etc. Would love to hear about any recommendations you might have. Thanks!

Took the Popup Out for the Maiden Voyage

Went from MN to Indiana to visit family on the maiden voyage. Went to Racoon Lake and then Brown County State Park. Learning along the way...awning and how to work the fridge being the main issues. So much fun though! Can't wait for another trip.

First solo camping trip of the year!

Just wanted to share my excitement for my first solo camping trip of the year! My family and I go camping as often as we can in the summer months in the Midwest. I always take at least one solo trip. It's nice to get out on your own, at your own pace and decompress from family life and work.

Purchased a Popup! https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/60d6dc2a-78e8-4724-8656-3715dc3dacd6.jpeg

Our family bought or first popup this week after being an exclusive tent family. 2005 Rockwood, in excellent condition. Previous owners were crying as we pulled out of the driveway. We'll be using this on any vacation we go on, typically we go to National Parks and rent AirBNB in the area. This will pay for itself after a couple of uses.

Throwback to when we got ~45mm of rain in 30min when camping

Fortunately everything was safe. We just barely managed to collect all our things from outside (apart from the jug, which we left on purpose), and the tent took absolutely no water inside.
