The real downside of brave is the cryptocrap. It is still optional. However the fact that it support the chromium monopoly is also a bad point.

I think you confuse security and privacy. Samsung are pretty secure from what I saw. They are not private at all however. You can debloat it with adb and maybe tools such as Universal Android Debloater.
There is a couple of guide such as this one: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1402380-ultimate-samsung-oneui-debloat-privacy-customization-guide/

I wish I discovered that sooner thanks you. Except a few games they all have good artwork, etc...
Pretty much the title. I installed my GOG games through Lutris and wanted to rapidly import them to Steam. Same for emulated ROM. Do you have advices ?

I like Fairphone's mission but kinda feel meh about their execution. Don't get me wrong they probably do better than everyone else. But releasing a phone per year isn't great for the environment. Removing the headphone jack wasn't for ecological reasons. Making tiny earbuds isn't in hand with easy reparability. And you can't upgrade anything !
I wish they will slow the pace for a release every 2 years with better upgradability. I also wish they would work with GrapheneOS so the hardware and firmware are secure enough for the Graphene team to work on that device.
But nice that the brand is still alive. I hope they won't go too much into green washing.

FlatPak is not the as secure as everyone think it is.

Paper wallet (actually stainlesssteel wallet) because :
I don't want my Monero private key to be stored on proprietary software aka Ledger I don't feel confident trusting Trezor because their CoinJoin implementation and the Blockchain Analyst partner of Wasabi (providing the CJ), also expensive honestly MoneroSeedSigner is interesting but it is a signer device and does not store the key, also vulnerable to some attacks that I don't feel confident personally. Kastello looks dead or gowing nowhere, please correct me if I'm wrong The Monero Passport fork is promising, a bit expensive but will see how it evolves
I wantto setup an encrypted microSD card backup for my seed. But I need to take the time to do that correctly.

I block all ads, I rather tips some moneroj or sats to creators, buy some merch, etc. From my point of view giving 5$ to a creator will be more profitable for him/her than watching a hell lot of ads
Would like to see open source client such as Infinity, Stealth, RedReader, etc... going to lemmy. The best case scenario would be all reddit client including Apollo, Boost, etc... supporting the transition to lemmy but this is quite unlikely unfortunately...

After more deep diving into cryptocurrencies and especially Bitcoin I came to the conclusion that Bitcoin is the most Solarpunk cryptocurrency because it's PoW favors super cheap energy which is energy that would be lost. Renewable energy potential is often not near people's home (so it's expensive to build the infrastructure necessary for people to get it where they lives). The other main problem with renewable energy is that it produce when there is little to no consumption. This way Bitcoin offers an incentive to develop renewable (which isn't 100% clean but IMO necessary for a better future) and make it more profitable to do so. Also the deflationary nature of Bitcoin gives anyone an incentive to save rather than to spend which is part of the solution to end overconsumerism. The community and decentralized aspect of Bitcoin is also really solarpunk-like as it could revolutionize democracy and power authority. We could see in the future complementary local currencies indexed on Bitcoin rather than on USD (which is backed by weapons, oil and blood). Bitcoin will be backed by all the energy production on earth, "clean" energy.
So with Bitcoin we could get renewable energy everywhere on earth where there is exploitable energy (could end the war that are caused by monopolized energy sources), make a generation wealth rather than individual wealth. It would be the end of control freak government as we know it... Fix the money fix the world as many bitcoiners likes to say.
Obviously we need more than fixing money to get to a solarpunk utopia but if we drop the fiat based monetary system we will have a tons of problems disappearing.
I liked the film Bitcoin is Generational Wealth to illustrate this solarpunk vision of Bitcoin potential future.

BEST : Pixel with GrapheneOS Second best : Fairphone 4 or SHIFT 6mq with CalyxOS Third best : /e/OS or iodéOS or SimpleOS
If you can live without Google Mobile Services or microG Divest OS comes in second position when locked bootloader is supported and third when it's not supported

Umbrel is a Bitcoiner project that is very focused on easy usability. Not sure we're gonna see the Monero Node on the official Umbrel App Store but you can simply add 3rd-party stores and then the official one for XMR Umbrel Node ^^

Intersting project indeed. Might be nice to have a complete list somewhere so you can simply scroll through it, organized by categories.
I've opened an issue on LibreTube a Piped YouTube client for Android (in beta) for them to accept XMR, they embrasse the idea and added XMR donations in the minute... litteraly, you might want to add them when you have time to do so.
Also, having a QR on your website is not ideal IMO, what if you or someone else hijack the Monero adress and steal the donations ? I don't want to check everytime, you should think about a better solution, maybe simply add the URL to their XMR donation link page/anchor ^^
Nice project will keep an eye on it ;)

I feel you :')
I've been using it for years without paying anything so it's just a thank for the dev, but I'm still unhappy to see that happening.

Monero if they accept it, if not BTC I usually ask for Monero first if they list some crypto but not XMR
SimpleMobileTools are making simple yet great open source android apps. No ads, no trackers, cheap price or even free. I personnaly love Simple Gallery Pro and have a lot of respect for the devs, I would like to donate since they accept cryptos... unfortunately only BTC, ETH and LTC. Let them heard of the benefits of Monero so I (and maybe you) could donate to them for their work !

Yes Monero PoW spends much, Monero is better than Bitcoin in almost every aspect. You made an interesting point with transparency, Monero has View Keys which allow transparency on the transactions.
Will look at Circles thanks. Could you elaborate on why it slows down big infrastructures autonomy ?
I don't fully agree with you on your verdict but I got your point and respect it. Thanks for your sharing, was really nice to read.

Well if it's all offline and that the source code does not looks compromise by the Chinese Government (or anybody else) I don't see why ? It's a feature in Windows, iOS, Android and probably macOS too in the future, people seems to love it. Biometric authentifcation is problematic but conveniant so the mass want it
I recently discover [NowPayments](https://nowpayments.io/) which looks like a cool services but does not suit well with a Monero mindset. I understand that it will have some compromises for using a service like that no matter how serious the ones running it are. I was just wondering if their was a simple way for a commerce to be paid in euro/dollar or whatever currency is prefered and that the customer uses XMR without comprimising any information on his/her side.

But if the device no longer recieve security update and no customROM allow relocking the bootloader, you don't do that much sacrifices. I won't use anything related to banking, crypto or money in general on those unlocked devices.

I would say that Apple isn't as bad as Google. But they are not good either. The best way to be private is to educate yourself so you'll learn what's ggod or bad for you. In general everything that is cloud based like iCloud or GoogleDrive has to be avoid. For me a degoogled-phone is good enough (CalyxOS)
sonalder 3 years ago • 100%
Fairphone 4 will soon have CalyxOS support. I won't recommend LineageOS because it's unsecure but here are some device I would recommend buying first or second hand that can run (or soon) secure and private ROM (DivestOS, CalyxOS and GrapheneOS):
- OnePlus 6T
- OnePlus 7
- OnePlus 7T
- OnePlus 8
- OnePlus 8T
- OnePlus 9
- OnePlus 9 Pro
- Pixel 4a 5G
- Pixel 4a
- Pixel 6
- Fairphone 4 (The Anti iPhone)
All should have decent battery life if they really want something high end like iPhone 13 :
- OnePlus 8T, 9 or 9 Pro
- Pixel 6
Often people tend to say due to the lack of funding open source apps have bad UI and also sometimes terrible UX. While it’s not entierly false I’ve found myself some beautifuly designed apps and wanted to share them here.
If you don't know, Samourai is an open source non-custodial bitcoin-only wallet for Android. The team behind it have done an amazing job to bring security, privacy and anonymity to the use of bitcoin. They do not spend money on advertisement. Give it a try and vote for it !
