Bingo, yes this is the same issue for what they say. I am connected through DisplayPort though on all my screens. Shame that it is not being worked on but from my testing I assume that when steam moves proton to support wayland natively it will be fixed. Thanks for the info, very interesting!!

Its one of those stylized games where i can not choose resolution, only fullscreen or borderless. And when i choose borderless the screen goes to a small 1080p window.

Yes i read that in the documentation but for some unkown reason if i omit either the lowercase or the uppercase the game won't even start! Only the gamescope instance.

I'm running with the mesa drivers on version Mesa 24.2.0-devel. After some tinkering around it seems its a combination of things and gamescope fixes the black blocks but it still won't render in ultrawide, so I'll just stick with wine and lutris for now which seems to work fine.

    Thanks for the help!!

I think you are correct assuming it's an issue with proton not supporting wayland as if i try to use lutris proton still doesn't work but wine does and so does with gamescope.

I'm trying to use gamescope now as you and the other comment have mentioned but I'm having the issue with this command, if you could help me:

    gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -W 3440 -H 1440 %command%

It creates a window of the appropriate size but the game is still in 16:9 (Without the black blocks issue, which is already a win, but i'd prefer it to be ultrawide too).

    Thanks for the help!!

EDIT: Just tried it with Lutris but it seems to also not work even with their setup on proton. So it might be a them thing. For now I'll just use lutris to play on wine directly.

[Solved-ish] Having issues launching games specifically from steam

Hi all! I've recently come across an issue with launching games from steam. For now I've seen it happen on two games (or rather demos): Crow Country and Sophonce. They launch fine but have some flickering black blocks on the screen that make them unplayable. Here are some images: https://pasteboard.co/qXH4H5gm7sIS.jpg https://pasteboard.co/7k9XM394Zlsi.jpg https://pasteboard.co/6vPC8GYxhHu8.jpg This only happens when they go full-screen and on wayland, on X11 works fine. I've tried many versions of proton including eggroll variants. The games work fine when launched with wine without steam in the middle if i do `wine <game.exe> `. If i do it this way the games detect that I'm running on an ultra-wide screen and play as such but through steam they stay on 16:9 instead. My system: ``` Os: Nobara 40 Kernel: 6.8.12-200.fsync.fc40.x86_64 DE: Gnome 46.2 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (16) @ 5,05 GHz GPU 1: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX RAM: 32GB ``` Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Yeah after seeing this and another very detail answer it looks line my settings are too demanding and that is causing a slowdown. Since i do direct playing on everything i might just turn them down for the one friend who seems to be always on the weirdest player that needs transcoding. Thanks all!!

I don’t know where you’ve bought your N100 but i think it shouldn’t be able to do that. I have one too and it cant do even one 4k 10bit HDR transcode.

As i see in the results from the benchmarks we’ve gathered (here: https://gist.github.com/ironicbadger/5da9b321acbe6b6b53070437023b844d), my experience seems to be the common one.

While de N100 is a great value and low energy processor for a jellyfin server (especially if you direct play everything as is my case), I think if the objective is 4k hdr 10bit it will fall short as in my experience it usually transcodes at 8-9fps.

Seems to have the same issues as the other software. After digging for a while seems that AMD changed the way their driver works for RDN3 cards and the zero rpm “feature” is not exposed yet to the kernel. There are some issues tracking progress but as far as i can tell AMD isn’t prioritizing the issue so who knows when this will be fixed…

In one of the gh issues someone fixed it by bypassing the vrm connector directly to the motherboard. In their model it was doable without having to disassemble anything. I don’t feel comfortable doing that so for now the only thing to do is wait…

    Thanks anyways though!!

Disable Zero RPM on RX 7900 xtx on Linux

Hi all! I have an RX 7900 xtx AMD graphics card and by default it is enabled. In windows it is easy enough to disable through the adrenaline software but there is no such thing on Linux. So far I've tried with both corectrl (1.3.11) and lact (0.5.4) and with lact i have been able to edit the fan curve but that only takes effect after the threshold of the zero rpm, which is annoying. If it's of any help, my model is the sapphire vapor-X. Thanks in advanced!!

Need help choosing for a new case that will fit my components

Hi all! I’ve recently bought new components for my pc but i miss calculated what would fit in my current case (by about one or two millimeters). I have the arctix liquid freezer iii 280 which doesn’t fit in my current corsair crystal 570x. The problem was that the ram didn’t fit on the mb because it hit the fans below the radiator (top mounted). I’ve looked into the fractal cases and the torrent seems the best bet but it also looks like it was designed for air cooling and putting the 280 radiator in the front defeats the purpose. I’ve also considered the North XL but im unsure if everything will fit with the top mount. I’m looking at Fractal cause i saw good reviews from GN but i’m open to everything!! (If it has a white variant even better:)) I previously researched and thought everything would fit so i kinda lost some faith in myself regarding this. Any suggestions are welcome, Thank you so muuch!!

Does jellyfin have a default unchangeable maximum bit-rate?

I find myself trying to stream a heavy movie, on a local network but it transcodes it due to the original file exceeding maximum bitrate. I've checked the settings but the only one which seem to control this is set at 0 which is unlimited (i guess). Is there any way to bypass this limit if so? The overall bitrate of the movie in question is 65Mb/s Thanks.

Thank you for the comprehensive answer! I can see that storage is going to be a big issue here for all the media, I've been recommended in this thread to go for a NAS but their low RAM/high cost plus having to use their proprietary software is holding me back. Is a mini PC attached to a HDD enclosure a good solution? Won't the USB speed be too slow or that isn't an issue for a media server and the other utilities (I'm more focused on the media server as I am assuming that is the more taxing use case)

My worries with a NAS is their very small RAM (on NAS of reasonable price). When running several docker containers i fear that might be an issue if suddenly several *arr are downloading, pihole, tailgate... all running at the same time might mean that the NAS with 1GB (and t these are already expensive, most I've seen more on my budget are half of that) of memory might not be enough (i think).

Its promising, it still has a lot of crashes and some kinks that need to be ironed out and there are many features missing, but IIRC the team intends to come out with the 1.0 version by the time 3rd party apps shut down. That will probably feel more stable. Its looking good!!

Instead of having the monthly reports as the pined post of the community I feel it would be better to have some sort of compendium of guides to help newcomers or the general userbase to delve deeper into Switch emulator, for example the basics: How to set up the emulator, brief explanation of the settings, how does EA work, etc.. Also maybe some guides on modding or other useful resources to help contribute to the project. I don't know things like that. I'm open to suggestions! RP1 on the other hand, I regret reading (I haven’t watched the movie). I would gladly take those hours of my life back if I could. Your hate towards RP1 tells me i can trust your opinion xd. I might give it a read after count zero then maybe.

Back when Gibson was writing Neuromancer, it wasn’t retro futurism he had in mind, it was just the future! A lot of the charm of Cyberpunk comes from the ways in which the 80s vision of the future differs from reality while still striking close to home. I agree but i wouldn't call it dead, its just updated with a new aesthetic. Ideally good cyberpunk still should touch on the ideas of un checked capitalism and neo liberalism with a splash of neon, now it just updates the tech to the current era's perception of future technology.

Though i have to agree with you that we are basically already living in a cyberpunk dystopia just without the neon and the body mods. We have the unchecked capitalism having set its roots in government and corrupting most things it touches along with massive cognitive dissonance from a good part of the population that gets fed info by outlets, which are all controlled by the same people, controlling them to do what they want. But we are all content as long as there is a modicum of food on the table and we get our soma (in the way of modern, designed to keep you addicted, entertainment in its different forms and stuff).

I wouldn’t say that a traffic accident without any casualties or injured which only causes commuter delays is “way more important” that a mass shooting where potentially there could be tens of victims no?

Also, still with the effect that you mention it seems like a minor-mid level news that, again, it probably doesn’t even affect the whole country. I still don’t see it as something that should be in worldnews. I'm open to input though I'm the first to accept that i am not the most knowledgeable about american stuff.
