The article doesn't specify, but what kind of 'activity on adult websites' is damaging to the point that a candidate would be pressed to drop out?

This is nice and all, but I don't know that it means a whole lot. There are few stakes for the people coming out to endorse Harris now. They don't work in govt roles, hold position in a political organization or an elected office.
The rank and file GOP (who are running for reelection now or in 2-4 years) are still sticking to the party line and the approved narrative. When they start flipping then it will be real news.

It's of course troubling that AI images will go unidentified through this service (I am also not at all confident that Google can do this well/consistently).
However I'm also worried about the opposite side of this problem- real images being mislabeled as AI. I can see a lot of bad actors using that to discredit legitimate news sources or stories that don't fit their narrative.

My God what hubris. Rush had so many chances to pause the dive or work on a redesign and ignored it. I can't imagine the fear of being 3000+ feet below and hearing the first cracks of the hull as it starts to implode. Hope it was fast.

I loved the original, and enjoyed this one. It was a respectable sequel, especially given how most sequels are hot garbage. Worth a watch if you enjoyed the original movie. Not necessarily theater worthy, but it was pretty great to hear the original Danny Elfman theme playing in the theater during the intro.

I don't understand the folding phone thing. It feels like tech now is all about creating ridiculous features and tech companies trying to convince us that we want them while ignoring things that would actually be worthwhile like repairable phones, headphones jacks and minimal bloatware.

" optimize staffing levels to be more comparable with industry leaders”
I will never understand why investor types like to play follow the leader rather than giving strategic or financial reasons for business decisions. Who gives a shit if every other studio is laying people off? If the staffing is right for your company then following other industry leaders will only make things worse and cement you in a place behind those leaders.

(NOTE- the story was found to be false.)

A professor I was taking a management class with gave me a fun burn on my thesis. I asked for his input on a specific point and he called it "intellectual masterbation" and proceeded to talk for 15 min or so about ideas he thought i should have studied instead (I was already preparing for my thesis defense so couldn't change topics). Never got an answer on the actual question I'd raised.

I don't get the arrangement art thing. It's satisfying to see things laid out neatly, but it's also satisfying to power wash crud off my patio, and I wouldn't call either one art.
But different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I agree generally, but I think the debates mainly help the undecided, who aren't going to automatically think well of Trumps constantly talking over her. Probably still best for maintaining general state of decorum and sanity. But Harris has a good reason to want Trump to talk himself into a corner.

Have NFCU for my mortgage and car loan and it is absolutely astonishing to see how behind they are in tech. To set up autopay on the car note they wanted me to send in a form and wait something like 6 weeks, and I got no interest discount or anything for doing it. Ended up setting up autopay through my regular bank online in about 3 minutes and said forget it.

There isn't the same level of pressure to commit to DEI as their is to stop it, and those supporting the latter position are probably seen as likely Ford customers.
I'm sure cutting investment in any program also saves them money, which has to be seen as a benefit too.

Got a '24 outback late last year. For the most part I love it-it's comfortable, holds my giant dogs and it's way better to drive in bad weather than my previous car.
I'd read reports on subaru forums that infotainment was bad, so my expectations were low. But even basic stuff isn't functional. It has gotten less responsive over the months (reminder: we've had it just barely a year). The screen has several seconds of lag with every touch, and sometimes controls just don't work at all. I don't like that we have to use it for temperature control, and android auto integration is clunky (though that may not be Subaru's fault).
Add that to the horrifying data collection practices and it makes me question ever getting a Subaru again.

It think it might work better to do a maximum length of service. Will generally have the same effect but should make it easier to keep from having a huge number of people rotate out at once, which would be pretty disruptive.

If I remember right, OpenAi started with this model too, and they do lots of shady stuff. Not that this is the plan for Proton, but I completely agree that simply creating a nonprofit that owns the for profit brand doesn't guarantee good behavior.

Kevin Hart as Roland is just infuriating. It shows they had no intention of treating the IP with any level of respect and they just wanted a campy action comedy with famous actors.

Curious about y'alls opinions on this. I like the idea of getting new people to experience an older game by aligning it to modern graphics and accessibility standards. But capitalizing on nostalgia with quick updates to that make it look modern rather than making new games seems like just more of studios trying to squeeze money out of us.

I'm looking for a way to play games that are 20+ years old and not produced anymore. I'm thinking like the old maniac mansion games and other Sierra on-line stuff from the early 90s, but I'd love to be able to browse old games and check them out. Happy to play in browser or download if the source is reputable. Here's a few places I've come across in my search. Would love thoughts or recommendations on these sites or others that are good places to check out. [Myabandonware.com](Myabandonware.com) [Abandonwaregames.net](Abandonwaregames.net)
TLDR The messages were shorthand meteorological readings for multiple locations at specific times. It was a unique form of code used to transmit weather data via telegram back in the 1800s that is the predecessor of the shorthand used today.
TL:DR author's positing that despite the public narrative we (gen x and millenials) are mostly better off (especially financially) than prior generations and at least partly due to actions from boomers. Thought this was an interesting read. I don't agree with all of the author's points but figured it would generate good discussion here.

Not sure what is going on, but over the past few weeks I've been having recurring issues with Firefox freezing up requiring restart (of the app). Seems to happen when I have multiple tabs open but no particular sites that I've noticed. Multiple updates have come through. I'm on windows 11, using privacy badger, unlock origin, one password and the capital one shopping app (disabled most of the time). I'm working on setting up a shop for selling my art on squarespace so I'm on there a lot. I'll be in the middle of editing something and then it stops responding and I get the pop-up asking me to wait or close the app. Waiting has never worked so I just close and restart. It also can't reopen my tabs when I restart so I have to do that manually. I've tried reinstalling it. I've cleared out the cache though it's set to do that at closing anyway. Nothing works. This happens randomly, not every time I open the browser. Does this sound like anything you are experiencing? Any ideas on other things I should try to fix it?

There's supposedly a variety of different spectroscopy methods but what drives the choice of one method over another? If elements drive the colors, how do you parse out individual elements from a compound? Is there a consistent pattern to how the emission lines relate to what the element looks like before going through the prism? Is there a resource that shows examples of emission lines along with the visible color?
tl/dr: email chains used as evidence in DOJ Google antitrust case show internal arguments about drops in # of searches, and how to increase them so that people see more ads. Search team wants to create better search results to keep people coming back. Advertising team wants to find any way to make people search for as long and as often as possible ("increasing the journey length") even if it means delivering less relevant search results. You can actually read many of the trial documents here - https://www.justice.gov/atr/us-and-plaintiff-states-v-google-llc-2020-trial-exhibits this file was particularly interesting. https://www.justice.gov/d9/2023-11/417557.pdf
Can't believe it took me so long to get around to playing this but I'm so glad I did. Dishonored is still my favorite of theirs but now I've played all their games and they are easily my favorite studio because of their rich storytelling and immersive world design. Just wanted to show a little love for this fantastic game. I'm already contemplating another playthrough and can't wait to dig I to some of the more hidden details that I missed first time around.
