The superdelegate system that caused very real controversy in 2016 was changed after that. Superdelegates no longer get to vote in the first round, so they only influence the outcome if there's a contested convention. I believe they also decreased how many superdelegates there are

The right has started to eat itself alive. Only the most "ideologically pure" remain, and ideological purity in MAGA terms means not trusting anything except whatever they make up in the moment, which leads them to not trust each other. This is making it really difficult for them to agree on much of anything, which is why they have no political platform and do nothing except obstruct

What this graph shows however, is that there are a ton of degrees that seem to teach hardly any transferable skills
This graph absolutely does not show this lol...how could you possibly derive that from this graph
And sociologists are absolutely trained in statistics

I'd be really interested to see the specifics of how that data is collected, but also fucking duh recent college grads are underemployed. Also, having that degree sets people up for career advancement as they gain experience and that educational background becomes even more of a prerequisite for the jobs they're moving into

You'll notice only the last seven words are actually a quote. Almost certainly this is a mashup of expressing concern that Iran will attack Israel and a statement that US intelligence thinks Iran would choose military targets.

Not feeling depressed (euthymia) and feeling depressed (dysthymia) are emotional states that can be influenced by but exist independently of someone's circumstances. I encounter people who are homeless a lot in my work, and a good chunk of them are euthymic af, while there are a ton of people who have all their needs met and who are dysthymic af.
Emotional states have a lot more to do with genetic predisposition and learned behavior than most people would care to acknowledge, rather than situational factors

Disney already owned well over 50% of Hulu, many of their shows on there are already on Disney+ outside the US. IMO this is nothing like Disney buying Star Wars or Marvel or ESPN or Fox.
Here's a list of companies that Disney created shortly before the buyout was confirmed.
Those are companies that Disney has acquired over decades, they didn't create any of them

Sure, this instance defines itself as pro-Marxism/pro-socialism, and there is a serious conversation to be had about the pros and cons of different systems of economy. I struggle to understand, however, why people on this instance are so pro-Russia today, where Russia now is so blatantly a capitalist kleptocracy. This undermines any perception that people on this instance are approaching this in good faith, and gives the impression lemmygrad is the product of Russian troll farms.
As to why this small instance gathers so much attention within Lemmy, it keeps showing up in my "All" feed, that probably has something to do with it 👾

I'm somewhat convinced it's mostly Russian propaganda produced by Russian state-funded troll farms, which are very real

I struggle to understand lemmygrad. They advertise the instance as Marxist, but like you said they are reflexively pro-Russia and call you a western pig if you try to point out that Russia is also capitalist and not even remotely Marxist

"Tankies" as a term has been creeping from a description of people who think Stalin and Mao should be in charge again toward a description of anyone who believes even a hint of socialism should exist in society. It's basically a right-wing dismissal at this point

The political instability many nations experience today didn't develop in a vacuum though, the US and UK in particular (also others) have their fingerprints on much of Latin America and the Middle East, and much of that interference was profit-driven

It's so good. I was a TNG & DS9 fan, but I just didn't like Enterprise or Discovery, and I watched the first few episodes of Picard, but it was so dark and not like the others. SNW brings back the original Star Trek ethos, relentlessly optimistic and ethical with a realist streak, fantastic writing, great character development, and great special effects. They even have the traditional episode "types," like a Klingon politics episode, a courtroom episode, and a fantasy episode. My point is I love it, and I hope the writers'/actors' guilds get what they want soon so they can start filming season 3.
P.S. Fuck JJ Abrams

20 years ago before I had a wife, a child, pets, or a mortgage and when I had a simple job, I would destroy weeks at a time with some Final Fantasy 8. Logged obscene hours, unlocked every secret and beat every minigame, more than once. There's just no time in my life now for a game requiring that kind of time commitment, but there's always the memories

It's hard to overstate how different the standards were back then. Much of the housing that was built pre-1940 has been demolished, but if you find an average neighborhood still around from that era, you'll find tiny 2 bedroom houses in which parents raised often 3 or more kids, and this was the middle class norm. In the US, the average person has way more living space today than back then

The most inconvenience is for people going from Bee Caves to southbound Mopac who have to go through the stoplight at 360 because the onramp is closed

I had similar questions...there's already an amphitheater there in the Zilker Hillside Theater, which is very old, so I'm definitely not against building a new one. I would be very against having regular paid concerts there like they're doing at Waterloo Park though. Aside from the large events that happen there, performances at Zilker should be free for everyone
