I used Linux daily for 20 years.
Linux may be ready, the mainstream software isn't.
Are you working with Adobe? Good luck.
Want to play some multiplayer game? Good luck, again.
Oh yes, chrome and Firefox run fine. Just disregard LibreOffice, it's disappointing.

Unfortunately not.
I say that not because I hate Russians.
I hate the Russians that fly to Maldives and act like they own the place and are constantly rude to Maldivians, other tourists and leave trash behind when they leave.

The more I read about this Reagan, the more it seems he was not fit to run as president, probably Trump did less damage to the country than him, and that's a very low bar.

I wonder if America gets worse manufacturing, all the people complaining Logitech mice failing after a couple of years. While mine I have to kill them myself or gift around because they last so much and I like the new cool G series mouse.
pascal 6 months ago • 100%
The thing is that 1GB of a "driver" contains about 20 MB of actual mouse driver, but also all the drivers for all their other mice, keyboards, webcams, joysticks, driving wheels, loudspeakers (but why?), headphones, etc.
I like they consolidated their Logi Hub software, but it's HEAVY.

The problem when you bash millions of people is that your claims against the group becomes untrue very quickly. The Christians in my neck of the woods are generally supportive of women who want to get abortions.
That's true.
Even in Italy, house of the Vatican, home of the Pope, with 60% of Italians being Catholic Christians, abortion is perfectly legal since 1978 and no one even thinks about making it illegal.

If you had a Sound Blaster 16, you had an extra IDE port on the board, which DOS couldn't see and you had to load special drivers to use them. Usually it was used for the CD-ROM.

I have 20 years of experience in Linux. I'm not the average "I'm using Arch btw" Linux user. I managed several services at work with Linux and have a homelab at home.
If I wasn't a PC gamer, Windows was gone from my house. That's how I prefer Linux.
Having said that, your statement is objectively wrong.

I'm a windows and Linux user. I received for free an old 2015 MacBook air. I absolutely love it (after installing brew).
With how infuriating Windows 11 is, I'm slowly starting to understand why people prefer to pay more for a Mac.

I get the joke, but lots of people, me included, start to understand why people pay so much for a Mac. It's not the hardware, it's not having to deal with Windows.

You know that tool called stud finder that you use in America if you ever think about hanging a picture on the wall, or a TV, otherwise you risk your wall falling down with anything attached to it?
Never seen a stud finder in Europe.

With dos 5.x I started creating some fancy auroexec menu at boot that switches between several configurations depending if I wanted to run windows, need a lot of xms or a big chunk of Ems (640k was NOT enough for everything).
It was somehow fun.
But at least, if something is not working, it was entirely your fault. Now? It's probably windows update who fucked up something you desperately need right now.

First, lemm.ee was my first ever Lemmy instance, loved it here. This site worked absolutely flawless so far.
So, my hot take: I discovered lemm.ee blocked Threads, fair, that's not up for discussion from my side. Does anyone can suggest me a nice instance where Threads is federated? I'm curious about this infamous huge amount of content I cannot access from here (and no, Threads app is still not available in my country).
pascal 9 months ago • 100%
That's fair, but then stop using the "federation is like email" propaganda.
pascal 9 months ago • 85%
Brilliant, all the propaganda about "join us, the fediverse is like email" gone to shit. More like "it's like email, but if you email ends with @hotmail.com we will block your messages".
I agree with the sentiment, not with these actions, instead of giving meta users a way to break free, we built a wall between us and them, who have way more content, because we're afraid of Zuck stealing our data, which is public and he already done.
In some European countries, the authorities are taking rigorous action against film and music piracy. Even downloading a single file can lead to fines, criminal proceedings and warnings. In Switzerland, the legal situation is somewhat different. Here, you can download or stream certain content from the internet without paying for it under certain circumstances.
Today, I tried (again) to install lemmy on my linux server. I tried in the past but the documentation was so lacking that I only encountered errors after errors just following exactly every command. Today I tried again, using the Docker method, I correctly downloaded all the files, but as soon as I run "docker compose up" I get the error "/lemmy/docker-compose.yml: yaml: line 32: found character that cannot start any token" That's usually a common error if the yaml file contains TABs instead of spaces, but it's not the case here. So, again I'm lost and I'm looking for someone here that can bring me some light on the issue, it would be very appreciated.
According to this third party reviewer, the LTT stubby is as good as the PB Swiss (considered one of the best tool makers and I agree) and also $20 cheaper.
Digitec is considered the "Amazon of Switzerland", is the most popular online shop for technology with decent prices, but also often posts articles, reviews and previews. It helps since Amazon doesn't exist in Switzerland (Swiss people often buy from Amazon German or Amazon Italy). I honestly didn't expect the LTT news to reach such mainstream news.
The foreshadowing in the Linus Roast...
They have approximately now lost over 5000 subscribers which equates to about $25000 per month or $300000 per year in lost revenue.
Hi, if you're trying to build lemmy from scratch, on debian (not ubuntu), and you're following this guide: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/en/administration/from_scratch.html There are a few corrections I would like to point you. Install those two things before following the guide: `apt install sudo` Of course, 'sudo' is not installed by default on Debian, so I guess it would be a good idea to install it. `sudo apt install build-essential ` This will install the 'cc' compiler needed by Rust. `sudo apt install protobuf-c-compiler protobuf-compiler` This is needed to compile opentelemetry-proto.
