I torrented a few episodes from 1337x, but they are quite compressed/low-quality. Is this the best there is or is there a higher quality version hidden somewhere? It wasn't originally filmed it at such a low quality, right? ![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/1a395cbd-3393-45a8-9e1b-cd0501faddfb.png) ![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/4473f576-769e-43f7-9796-510f0e3d6b83.png) ![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/0216208c-a805-46a6-91e6-ce45425332a1.png)

Yeah, it doesn't :(
Couldn't run Windows 7, and Windows 10 ran like shit. My old PC basically got a second life with Linux. This is Half-Life GOTY running on Wine, runs really smooth. The only downside is lack of directX support, OpenGL is there but the integrated graphics card only supports till OpenGL 2.1, which is not enough for many things, and also slower than directX. Still, my PC feels much faster now, and doesn't scream like a demon whenever I open up a browser :) (Maybe I should dual boot Win7(While never connecting it to the web), just to play some more games with DirectX?) Also, my local hospital has started using Ubuntu, their old PCs also couldn't handle the heavy burden of running Windows I guess 🤣

Yeah It's more reliable in that way.
Still, I wish there was a something like a simple flag for the package manager so I could control if user data gets preserved.
I'm a bit surprised that that isn't a feature.

(In Windows) If you uninstall a program using the "uninstall.exe" provided, you can tick an option to wipe all the data.
This is also available from the Control Panel's "Uninstall programs" page. The "uninstall" button usually launches the "uninstall.exe" provided by the app's devs.
I've never had this issue on Windows before

Thanks. I wish there was a more straightforward process though.
Every other OS I've used purges all app data after uninstalling, why is Linux different?
I recently installed chromium, created a new user and logged into a website. After my work was done, I removed chromium with "sudo dnf remove chromium". A few days later I installed chromium again through dnf. My user account was still there and I was logged into the same site. Is there a way to avoid this and uninstall an app along with all its user data?

It's an underdeveloped country, everything is imported so prices are much higher than what you'd expect. The government is corrupt, there is no free public healthcare or education.
You simply can not sustain a family without having one of your family members in a foreign country as the breadwinner. If you can't go abroad, it's grueling poverty for you, good luck caring for your sick parents or sending your kids to school. Even our nation's leaders send their children abroad for studies/job.
Yeah, the USD equivalent doesn't mean much if your nation actually has something to offer in exchange for your low wages, but that is definetly not the case everywhere.
That's why "Why would anyone ever work over 60 hours?" first seemed like a sarcastic comment to me.
Everywhere isn't europe or america guys

Everyone doesn't live in 1st world countries.
I'm in one of those places where people barely make a living even after pretty much working to death. I am still a student and I have been lucky enough to be born into a more fortunate family. I don't have firsthand experience, so I will give an example.
A good example is my teachers. They have a 6 to 5 job 6 days of the week, and their monthy salary is equivalent to 865USD.
The fact that I can use the internet and tech as much as I want is a blessing

I had an Aspire One D270 laptop with a 32-bit Intel Atom CPU and 1 gigabyte of RAM, so I installed Debian with Xfce on it, but even then it's running way too slow. Is there anything I can do to make the laptop faster and more responsive given its limited memory?

Oh that brings me back! I only have vague memories of playing it when I was little. You could shoot boulders that would roll down a hill and squish your enemies, and there was also a cool jetpack I think.
The game isn't THAT dated. It's got smooth controls and good combat. I don't think there will ever be a remake/sequel though, sadly.

Me too, and I'm surprised how I haven't. As a kid I used to pirate stuff from tons of shady websites without any antivirus software on an outdated Windows XP.

And yeah, I feel like I'm nailing my feet just to avoid walking into a trap here lol. I should relax, I've minimized a LOT of data collection already.
Any good browser suggestion you have?
maliciousonion 2 months ago • 100%
I am aware of that feature, but I can't do the same for a few essential system apps that constantly ping chinese IPs for whatever reason.
As for my browser, I mostly use Tor browser for browsing/reading and Mull for downloading and streaming.
Am I being too paranoid? lmao

Yup, you are right. Mobile banking seems to be really difficult on custom ROMs and overall it just brings too many issues. I will keep using the stock ROM for now (HyperOS). I have google play services disabled, all Gapps and Xiaomi bloatware apps deleted. I feel like that's good enough. RethinkDNS to block internet connection from apps that don't need it. I shouldn't let "perfect" get in the way of good.
Do you have any other suggestions to make my phone a bit less of a data mine?

Do the unofficial builds get regular security updates, though? Even if they do, I don't think it's the best idea to rely on two independent developers at the same time, I'd rather not have multiple points of faliure.

Oh don't worry about it, mistakes happen.
Paranoid Android seems to be working on Android 14 right now and they are regularly publishing updates on their discord/telegram groups. They seem like a pretty active team, I'll just go ahead and flash the ROM I guess.

I've already seen this page before.
The title says [UNOFFICIAL] and the rom isn't available in the actual LineageOS official website. Is this version really safe?

Its not available for my device (Redmi Note 11)
I have a Redmi Note 11, I am planning to install a custom ROM. This is the first time I'm about to do something like this. How good of a reputation does the Paranoid Android OS have? Will I get good long term support? How functional is it?

Halo:CE. The controls were too floaty and the level design got WAY too confusing somewhere in the middle of my playthrough. Never finished it afterwards.

I have played the absolute shit out of Doom as well, basically all the official WADs, Master Levels, Sigil, you name it. I have tried myhouse.wad, but i was too big of a dum-dum to reach any of the secrets so I just quit and watched some youtube videos on it.

I'm seeing Rimworld and Factorio in a lot of the comments here. I have played Factorio already, great game. Guess I'll try Rimworld now.
I recently booted up Half-Life 2 to replay it. I have played the absolute shit out of this game before, so 60% of it just feels like a drag to me now. It was such an amazing game but it's sort of spoiled for me after I've played it too much. I also discovered ULTRAKILL a few months ago. I feel like I could play that game forever. It has tons of content, weapon combinations and higher difficulties with different enemy behaviour. Do any of you have more game suggestions like Ultrakill? A really replayable singleplayer game. !!BTW I don't mean online multiplayer games or games similar to candy crush!!

Do you know of any songs that an average person wouldn't easily find on the internet, but is still worth listening at least once in a lifetime. I highly encourage music that isn't in English.
