So it was a fake root prompt which tricked the bots into believing that they logged in successfully but in reality the prompt could do nothing on the system?

And now I'm on fedora 39 kinoite because I like the immutable image-based features such as being able to build my own images in the cloud and being able to roll back to any previous version if something messes up in an upgrade. And also I have more control over what software is installed on the host system because it's all written in my Dockerfile so if I want to uninstall something and all of its dependencies, I'm just gonna remove it from the Dockerfile.

My first installed Linux distro was Ubuntu 5.10. I started experimenting with Linux because my neighbour at the time said good things about Linux. He used windows himself but he also heard good things about Linux and spread the word in curiousity. Eventually I was the one of us who made the jump.

Indeed. Linux nowadays works out of the box if you choose a distro such as Ubuntu or Fedora.
The Wifi issue thing is an old story which was a reality back in 2005 when I started using Linux.

Yeah i agree. The ad stuff is really bad. Having ads in the browser is enough. I don't want it in my OS. But even all the way back in Windows 7 some people busted Windows in "calling home" when something was entered in the search field in the Start menu. This was caught using the ZoneAlarm firewall.

@GnomeComedy ansible sounds cool. i don't know anything about it, but it seems like this is a bit of the same as i'm doing with Dockerfiles for my Fedora Kinoite. building my own custom OS image with github actions and then every 3rd day the new image gets pulled by my pc from the cloud.

There is a free subscription for RHEL for individuals.
And I think it's less of an issue nowadays with old packages since we have extra layers such as podman containers over distrobox, flatpak, snap, Nix etc.
Then you can have a solid base OS with less solid layers on top where things are allowed to break but don't mess with the rest of the system. I use Fedora Kinoite as my base for this exact reason.

For which cases did you need cake for example?
My base OS is Fedora Kinoite and I'm considering have AlmaLinux in a podman container for some applications and tools. Replacing it every year because fedora is eol is too often in my opinion.

Enterprise Linux on desktop? Anyone using enterprise Linux on their desktop such as RHEL, Alma, Rocky, CentOS etc.? I'm curious if it's easy to use for this purpose or if the older packages are a pain. [@linux](https://lemmy.ml/c/linux)

does anyone know what effect these warnings have when installing or running a nix package? warning: Ignoring setting 'auto-allocate-uids' because experimental feature 'auto-allocate-uids' is not enabled warning: Ignoring setting 'impure-env' because experimental feature 'configurable-impure-env' is not enabled I'm using Nix on Fedora. Entered a lucid dream from a non-lucid dream Had an interesting lucid dream tonight. I dreamt (normal dream) that I got help from someone who could help me lucid dream. I fell asleep in this person's presence (in the dream) and entered a new dream. When I entered the new dream I was lucid. When the lucid dream ended I woke back up in the previous dream and was again non-lucid. Another interesting thing was that when I lucid dreamt I was levitating but lost control over it and was about to get hurt. My subconscious mind changed the dream so I didn't get hurt. Thank you dear subconscious mind ❤️ [\#lucid](https://rytter.me/search?tag=lucid) [#dream](https://rytter.me/search?tag=dream) [#dreaming](https://rytter.me/search?tag=dreaming) [#dreams](https://rytter.me/search?tag=dreams) [@luciddreaming](https://lemmy.world/c/luciddreaming)
Spontaneous astral projection This night I had an interesting experience. I have never astral projected before, only lucid dreaming but I am very interested in the topic and wanna try to project some time. But tonight something interesting happened. I woke up in the night and was half awake and quickly slipped back into sleep. When I was about to sleep I felt myself float out of my body. I remember myself floating around above my couch (where I was sleeping) and when I realized (hey I'm floating around outside my body!) I felt I was pulled back towards my physical body and woke up in sleep paralysis. The experience isn't very clear in my memory - kinda blurry like a dream. And also my living room was dark with only some things being visible even though the lights were turned on in the physical. However I don't think it was a dream because normally in dreams, the mind fills in stuff such as differences and other people and here was none of that. Does anyone have an idea what happens in North Korea these days? Mainstream media says that people there are having a hard time because the country has been under covid lockdown for over 3 years now and that Kim warns another famine like in the 90's. But I would like to watch some alternative sources if there are any as mainstream media isn't so trustworthy when it comes to stories about north korea. Why does the government keep the borders closed?

Tried lucid dreaming pills I tried the [#LucidEsc](https://rytter.me/search?tag=LucidEsc) pills from [#Vividream](https://rytter.me/search?tag=Vividream) yesterday and I must say these pills definitely has an effect on me. Had very vivid dreams tonight to the degree that I can remember smell and feelings of touch from the dreams. Kinda [#lucid](https://rytter.me/search?tag=lucid) because I knew some of the things weren't real but hadn't fully realized it was a dream. Will definitely try this again and I think next time I will try to combine it with the [#WBTB](https://rytter.me/search?tag=WBTB) method instead of taking a pill before going to sleep in the evening.
