Khojakhmet Kongyrkhodzhaevich Khodzhikov was a Soviet Kazakh artist, caricaturist, and illustrator, and one of the pioneers of Kazakh folk art. He was born in 1910, and his father was an educator and scientist, while his mother was a painter and costumer. During the 1920s, he studied in the [Vkhutemas ("Higher Art and Technical Studios")](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vkhutemas) Russian state art and technical school in Moscow. Its workshops were established by a decree from Lenin. Khojakhmet studied on preparatory courses for the nationals of the Soviet East. His brother Kulakhmet has better preserved images, and he appears when you search for Khojakhmet :( After his studies, he drifted between jobs as an illustrator-caricaturist for newspapers (1928-1930); as a painter for the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan, and the Institute of National Culture; and as the lead art director for Zhambyl Regional Kazakh Drama Theatre named after Abay (although the Drama Theatre wasn't called that during his tenure there in the 30s), which was in Dzhambul/Aulie-Ata (now called [Taraz](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taraz)). He was repressed in 1938 and only returned to Moscow in 1943. From 1944 to 1953 he worked as the decorator in the kinostudio [Kazakhfilm](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazakhfilm). His easel works are displayed in the [State Museum of Arts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._Kasteyev_State_Museum_of_Arts) named after [A. From the description of the cited encyclopaedia, his work features themes of working labourers and peasants. In his idyllic works, such as "Night in the Fisherman's [Kolkhoz](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolkhoz)", "Boats on the Shore", and "Landscape with Mountains", he poetically eulogized the simple life of Kazakh [auls](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aul). He also authored more than 100 linoprints with satirical depictions of hot topics of the day. It is unfortunate that his work and cultural fingerprint, which was known to the Soviet people of Kazakhstan and the USSR, was just as ephemeral as the Soviet Union itself, and that no publicly-accessible archive exists of his works and that of hundreds of other excellent Soviet artists and producers. Finally finished the third volume of Austen's best work. Not going to lie, it was a challenge and quite a journey, but well worth it. Rip to the many, _many_ highlighters that gave their lives for this endeavor. AMA!

Having a dedicated space to this would be nice. Currently if you want DIY resources you need to search for it and find the old threads, like the resource thread by u/quartz242, or the thread I made. Discussion around DIY is very scattered, rarely in posts, and some in random threads. Having all of it contained in one place would be better.

Im talking about the gulf. Social fascism would be the most apt way to describe them - social democracy, class collaborationist, delineation along ethnic lines, etc. But at the same time, it feels like westerners who might agree on this point would be doing so out of orientalist preconceptions of the gulf rather than on an actual clear understanding. From 1929 to 1931, Kasteev studied the arts in the Almaty studio of Russian painter Nikolai Gavrilovich Khludov. Khludov was the founder of the first school of artistry in Kazakhstan, which opened in 1921. It was foundational to the development of arts in Kazakhstan and Kyrgizstan. Kasteev continued his studies from 1934 to 1937 in Moscow, in the art studio named after Nadezhda Krupskaya, the Russian revolutionary and wife of Lenin. He was proclaimed the People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR in 1944, owing to him being the premier Kazakh artist and watercolorist. The Almaty state museum was renamed in his honour in 1984.  The painting "Kapchagai Hydroelectric Power Station", from an online archive. This landscape depicts the Kapchagai hydro power plant (built 1965-1970), which is cradled on the Ili river in Almaty. Here are some photos of the HPP:    Kasteev was the Chairman of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan for a period. He was also a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR of the 4th–6th convocations.  His selfportrait was reproduced on the postage stamps of Kazakhstan in 2004. Many of his paintings also appear on postage stamps.

There's something about learning loads of useless trivia that draws people, and TIL is really popular. Not only that, but TIL is an organic way to educate people, even on the most commonest of things. The reactionary-TIL has posts like "TIL about the tank man who resisted tanks with his bodie" and "TIL about stalins big spoon" resurfacing every few months, which serves to teach newcomers the lore of the liberal world, and the creation of its based counterpart here would teach the vibes-based ML worldview instead. may haps i will request it... later
