I don't think that article is correct.
I've never understood subsequent realization to be integral to the dissonance itself, which already exists regardless of one's awareness of it.
It's like insisting that you are not depressed unless you "realize" you're depressed.
unless by "realization" that article simply mean experiencing conflicting emotions, which is the cognitive dissonance itself.
requiring "realization" feels like putting a hat on a hat.

"Israel cannot exist in its current state without the aid and protection the US provides it".
israel is a technologically advanced independent country with a functioning government, they have an enormous GDP across various industries, and they receive economic and military support from dozens of other countries.
it benefits Israel to receive billions of dollars every year from the US(as it benefits the US) as a historic mutual defense ally, but Israel is in no way entirely dependent on or explicitly beholden to the US.
"If the US actually wanted Israel to stop murdering civilians, it could have it done tomorrow."
how? there is no evidence for this.
The US is a third party to this conflict that, more obviously than ever, has limited diplomatic control over the actions of the current Israeli government and its military.

"The iron dome is funded and built with American hardware"
this is partly correct, as obama matched the billions of dollars israel spent on the iron dome.
"If the US disassembled it..."
the US has no right or obligation to "disassemble" another countries infrastructure any more than Nigeria has the right to disassemble the French metro; this is a non-starter.
"Israel would be unable to act with impunity towards its neighbors..."
this is entirely incorrect as Israel does not require US funding to maintain the iron dome, their military, or their aggression.
The annual GDP of Israel is something like 600 billion now, taking away the 3 billion the US gives them each year isn't going to make the difference you think it will, even ignoring all of the other countries that fund israel.

blech, no it isn't.
Americans largely do not support this genocide.
The israeli government, most Israeli citizens, and the idf are supporting and continuing a genocide they have perpetrated for decades.
The US is one of many countries that sells weapons to Israel and provides them with aid, continuing over half a century of mutual support.
that does not make the US equally culpable as the Israeli government and military making the decision to continue genocide and defy the UN.
The Israeli government and the IDF are choosing to perpetuate this genocide.
"why isn’t the U.S. stopping Israel, as it surely could simply by pausing the constant flow of weapons?"
One of the reasons is that pausing us weapon shipments would not stop Israel at all.
The US is one of a couple dozen countries regularly supplying Israel with weapons.
Israel has a huge stockpile of weapons, and even if they had zero weapons, one country not selling them weapons would not stop the other two dozen countries selling weapons to them after fifty years or more of providing military support.
another reason is that playing this final card removes any tangible control the us has on the situation politically.
at this point, i personally think a sale of weapons pause is the right idea, but the joint Chiefs of staff highly value Middle Eastern stability that they maintain through strong Israeli military support and are not going to sever ties with their largest and most powerful ally in the Middle East without a reason to (go to the protests).
there are lots of reasons why the US hasn't paused weapons shipments, but this article isn't going to supply any real answers because they're pushing a short-sighted, ill-informed, inaccurate opinion piece rather than critically and realistically analyzing the situation.

for anyone with the same problem, I add a border until the photo is larger than 1600x2650, at which point you can see the entire photo on the screen, as shown here: ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/e6be19d7-0284-44dd-8638-08d79173ef4b.jpeg) This is one of the dumbest things I deal with on the pixel, although there are a lot of dumb things with this phone. OP below: ever since I got the pixel, one of the most frustrating non-Functionalities has been that I have to manually screenshot any picture that I want to make into a wallpaper background because my Google pixel 6 enlarges by about 3x any photo, I choose to make my wallpaper background and cannot make the picture smaller by pinching it smaller. but now even if I save a screenshot, it blows it up more than 3x and I have to manually add a giant border around the picture in an external app so that the picture itself is much smaller if I want to see the entire picture on my phone wallpaper. is this just some shitty thing with my phone or do all pixels do this?
Also, thank you for posting and commenting and making such an exciting community thrive!

This is the most fun I've had with any Ninja turtles media since like that comic book where they had to fight a bunch of stuff some kid drew because he had a magic crystal. The art is beautiful and very cool, the jokes were really fun, the turtles have great personalities and everyone is a great voice actor. I had so much fun watching this. There were even a few spots in the movie, like more than one where I was on the edge of my seat enthralled by the action sequences. Highly recommended.

Very weird that I am so old and have literally never heard this mentioned in a TV show or book or movie or anything. In four out of five states, if you go to prison, you are literally paying for the time you spend there. As you can guess, this results in crippling debt as soon as you're released. The county gets back a fraction of what they hold over your head the rest of your life until you commit suicide(or die naturally and peacefully with the sword of damocles hanging over your head). $20-$80 a day according to Rutgers. Counties apparently sue people and employ wage garnishment to get back the money that majority of people obviously cannot pay back. https://www.rutgers.edu/news/states-unfairly-burdening-incarcerated-people-pay-stay-fees
Update: Answered in the comments much more thoroughly and succinctly than I can summarize, so head below for some great answers. --- She's apparently the warrant officer, which I've seen hypothetical explanations state is the XO, the second in command, but she explicitly states that she is the third officer at the end of the movie, and throughout The movie she is the pilot and she checks the electrician's work and volunteers to go fight the alien first, and also states that she is in command while the others were off the ship. So was Kane second in command? And what is a warrant officer? Thank you BTW if there is a crazy Aliens expert, I have a few tiny questions that only a crazy fan who literally read everything ever written and watched every interview about the movie might be able to answer.

PSA There was a comment a couple months ago now I think about people concerned that VPNs no longer worked in China. I traveled in China for several weeks over the lunar new year last month and tested proton, Nord, astrill, and a few random small ones I found off the chinese-accessible internet via Baidu without a vpn, and all of them work fine with the exception of one rabbit one that stated it refused to work in China. But if anyone had any lingering concerns about the viability of using a VPN in China, they all worked fine, and the three big ones I mentioned worked fine all day every day, the smaller ones disconnected after an hour or so and then you would have to reconnect. But they all worked, even over the holidays when the government is supposed to crack down on VPNs. Right now there's a party committee going on for a few days so vpns are supposed to be shut off, but my friend is using a VPN in China and sent me messages from Gmail, which is inaccessible in China without a VPN, to let me know that they're still working. Corollary PSA, my tickets from NY to Hong Kong were 274 bucks last month one-way, so prices are pretty crazy low right now, or at least they were several weeks ago.
Actors not sweeping correctly when somebody broke a glass or somebody's ashes were spilled on the floor or something like that is infuriating hahha. They're always having some serious conversation with heavy relationship complications, but whoever has the broom is literally tapping at the mess on the floor because they know that the production crew is going to clean it up for them after the shoot, so they, the ac-tors, don't have to actually sweep the mess into the dustbin. I f****** hate that.
