Does anyone have any suitable "alternatives" in podcasts which are similar to the WAN Show in atmosphere? (As in: longer conversations about tech-adjecent topics) I don't feel comfortable wanting to go near LMG's content (my only consistent watching was the WAN Show to be frank) after these discoveries.
TopHat 1 year ago • 100%
His comment didn't address two key issues for me:
- The "crunch"/tight scheduling of projects which led to sloppiness to begin with
- The constant need to correct, ranging from simple mistakes to very problematic methods.
I've been enjoying solely the WAN Show, but hearing about constant mistakes in benchmarks while praising "We want to show factual information on benchmarks for once.", is rubbing me in the wrong way. You can't rush benchmarking without QA and publish those results as fact. You get to choose for accuracy, or fast to churn content.
And Linus not mentioning something concrete on the first issue is worrying to me, not showing a clear intent to ease on rushing those benchmarks.
Not to mention, it's worth taking down a video if benchmarka are wrong even if the conclusion is "most likely to remain the same", which one cannot conclude with certainty without redoing it. It would be better transparency wise to either not knowingly publish wrong information, or put a more clear notice on said videos besides the description and a pinned comment.

I'll suggest Lemmesee as a word play on Let Me See and Lemmy. Some alternate possibilities regarding styling/spelling: LemmeSee, Lemmysee, LemmySee, LemmySy
Will definitely keep an eye out on the icon contest.

Don't get me wrong - I think an included battery that's rechargeable through USB is fantastic. Less customer inconvenience. But they should either go with a standard that's easily reproducible or go with regular rechargeable batteries.

Gotta go for ProtonMail. Have been running it for a year and I kinda like how it's doing.
An additional feature is SimpleLogin's "Hide My E-mail" Aliases, which are "burner" e-mail addresses to use with pre-determined SimpleLogin domains (you can add your own domains as well to go around Proton's custom domain limit). Those are included in the full suite and Family subscriptions. (10 a month when subscribing for a year)
There's also a cheaper variant for 3.50 a month but it lacks the SimpleLogin feature. You can get SimpleLogin seperately for 30 a year, however.

Any thoughts on overhauling cross-posting, to allow more interaction with the source interaction?
As far as I'm aware: currently when you cross-post, only the recipient instance gets all interactions (comments, upvotes), instead of duplicating to or having the origin solely receive those.
The current implementation hampers the growth of smaller instances when reposting something to a bigger one. Discoverability is still there due to seeing from which instance the post originates from, but that's arguably not enough.

I'm honestly disappointed at the hardware:
- 8 GB RAM for a SKU is definitely fine by me
- Android 13 from the get-go is good, though I do wonder how fast 14 and up will come, and how many system upgrades it'll get.
- The Snapdragon 782G is simply the worst of this phone. It is a decent improvement over the 4's Snapdragon, but it's worrying to see a Fairphone being sold at mid to early-premium pricing while budget phones got the same power for much less. I am aware of the Degoogling and Fair Trade Gold and the repairability parts of Fairphone. But I don't see why they can not try and match some actual mid-performance phones nowadays.
- Haven't heard anything about the display, but I would not be surprised if it will remain stuck at 60Hz - another pain point but this is arguably less of an issue and more of a wish I would had loved to see.
As long as other phones will have removeable storage (microSD slot) and are cheaper while beating FP's performance, I'd rather stick with them. Really a shame, hoped to see a much better phone this time around. But there'll be even more fierce competition with the EU law on replaceable batteries forcing others (including Apple even) to change to a better repairability model.

I could see both ads and subscriptions work (although, the former might be "useless" for those using adblockers, after all, so I'd see persistent/static sponsorship ads similar to how some FOSS projects do it to be more likely).
Especially the latter, for certain services that focus on providing value. A friend of mine mentioned Misskey for example, apparently being used by some Japanese artists. Considering Twitter's on its way out by being harmful to commission artists, I could see someone spin up such instance and ask X amount for providing a marketplace for commissioned goods.

To add to the folks owning both a Switch and a Deck:
Keep in mind that the Steam Deck might be more "unstable" than a regular console like a Switch. Not just games or controller config tweaks, but also general system stability - I'm speaking of experience with the beta software of the Deck.
Despite that, if you're tech-savvy enough or are happy to stick with only Verfiied/Playable rated games without tinkering, the Steam Deck's highly recommendable. Even for party games, as you can just use any vendor's controller on the Deck basically. Don't need to get 4 of one vendor or the like.

I'm doubtful - only because I don't get sucked in that easily anymore with games. My backlog continues to grow, and I still haven't even beaten Tears of the Kingdom yet lol. But I got high expectations for Persona 5. I love me some flashy turn-based RPGs.
I got Dragon Quest 11 before as I prefer the turn-based combat in RPG, but that's no where as flashy and catchy as Persona 5. So P5R definitely would get beaten before DQ11 haha.

- Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (Refunded as it got cheaper during the sale - then got it for even less than the original sale price with the soundtrack on GOG)
- Caesar 3 (Got that recommended along with my earlier purchase of Pharaoh + Cleopatra)
- Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition (Literally 1 buck + I've heard it got a great modding community)
- Lollypop (Had my eye on it since it launched on GOG - looks like a neat DOS game)
- Yakuza Complete Series (Already got Yakuza 0 on Steam, but couldn't pass this. Especially at the all-time low price point. Funnily enough, I believe these games are one of the first to use GOG's new Steam SDK wrapper to make it easier to port. Denuvo was already ripped out before by SEGA, and only having to recompile the game once to point to GOG's own .DLL probably made the release a hell lot easier than before.)
- Hypnospace Outlaw (Indie game that's been on my Steam watchlist for a while.)
- Cuphead with The Delicious Last Course and its Soundtrack (Double-dipping because I got the base game on Switch and the soundtrack through Steam. But didn't wanna rely on Switch emulation to play the DLC after buying it. So GOG release it is!)
- True Love '95 (An older Visual Novel that got recently re-released on GOG. Seemed interesting enough to give it a shot.)

Had a bigger haul at GOG, but for Steam I got:
- Persona 5 Royal (through Humble because of my Choice discount making it just under 30 bucks)
- Another World (double-dip on Steam because the GOG release doesn't have the original Amiga ROMs as bonus content)
- Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for Stale Gum (a new NES homebrew game published by Digital Eclipse - always been a decent emulation publisher)
- NOMAD (another classic emulated title)
- Castle Crashers (one of my "indie titles to get" games on the old list)
- Battleblock Theater (same reason as Castle Crashers!)

The only way (to my knowledge) to "hide your domain", is to use bare IP addresses which got their own issues (most services like Matrix for example will not accept servers based on IP address but domain explicitly). If you want to use a pseudo-private environment for friends and family, I'd recommend picking a generic sounding domain name to hide any personal information possibly conveyed in the domain name and lock it off to only users you allow to sign up to your services etc.
As long as you federate (one of the keypoints of services on the Fediverse), your domain will be visible when posting towards an external party's instance. You would have to disable federation entirely to prevent that, which will keep posts locked away behind your instance and only the posts within that instance would be visible.

Now this is what I'd support. Hell, for bundles I'm willing to pitch in with manual help, as I've done that for reddit in the past. (And since Steam Deck Compatibility is harder to get through scraping/API calls, and SteamDB refuses to provide an API of their own or scrape, pointing to tools to do it yourself.)

Hmm, I definitely should start planning one or two main games to beat on the Deck during commute. Definitely got some time to spare for playing something, would help knock down the backlog a peg or two.
I've definitely switched away from my main machine (gaming laptop) as it just overheats and hampers performance because of that, sadly. And you could play a racing sim quite easily on the Deck to be honest. You'll only need something to mount the Deck or dock it.

I think it speaks to accepting the reality of where they are with regards to hardware sales. Agreed, but I wouldn't say the Xbox situation is as hopeless as he paints it out to be if they got XGS games to show for it. Especially with Sony's exclusivity deals (which luckily are far less than before, looking at Street Fighter 6 for example). Phil's philosophy of getting games on any platform (despite starting to Xbox/PC lock Bethesda games) definitely shows with third party developers nowadays.
Sony set the bar low this time around, so I think it'll be good. Last showcase with the Hi-Fi Rush shadow drop was a good format for them - quick, content-filled. If they stick with that type of format, I'm a happy guy.

Starting today, I noticed some of my comments and posts aren't being visible to me when I am logged in. According to the RSS feed, logging out and checking it through an incognito tab, the posts are successfully posted on the instance and others', however. Take this post for example: https://compuverse.uk/post/822 Here you can see I am able to view my post: ![](https://compuverse.uk/pictrs/image/03e5ab3a-eccd-4ede-beb6-5a52f80bbfb3.png) But when looking at my profile, said post is not visible: ![](https://compuverse.uk/pictrs/image/3dbcce63-8b6a-4abf-b51f-2631e92b9a95.png) Same applies to several recent comments I have made. Am I missing something, or is there something wrong with the instance at the moment? When logging off, I can see the post just fine on my own profile: ![](https://compuverse.uk/pictrs/image/9778096e-991c-43f3-9cc1-db067376d142.png) This is also the case when using the Android client (Jerboa), and when trying to hard-refresh pages etc.

You're free to talk about Blu-ray entertainment releases, using the discs for making back-ups or any other discussions about Blu-ray media in general. If you got more information to add to this thread, feel free to DM me or reply to this thread to have it added. -- [Blu-ray](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray) discs are the successor to DVD discs and the competitor of the former [HD DVD](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD) format. The main variants of the Blu-ray discs are capable of storing 25 GB (single layered), 50-66GB (dual layered), or 100-128GB (BDXL). They are commonly used for home releases of films and shows (along with the still popular DVD format), or used for long-term archival through the use of M-DISCs. Blu-ray players are required to play these discs, although video game consoles (the PlayStation 3, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5) nowadays have Blu-ray player functionality built-in. Discs are still capable of region-locking like DVDs but with simplified regions (A, B, C). Although most discs (especially 4K Ultra HD variants) have relaxed on region-locking the content. [M-DISCs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-DISC) are discs (both DVD and Blu-ray) capable of being written once and kept in storage for a longer period of time, making them ideal for long-term data storage for back-ups of important data. Blu-ray films are currently released in two main formats: regular Blu-ray films with usually a transparent light or deep blue case, or [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_HD_Blu-ray) discs with a usually black case. A handy resource to get to know more about technical information of films, is https://www.blu-ray.com/ 4K Ultra HD discs tend to contain video material with a resolution of 3840x2160 (either native, or upscaled to said format from a lower resolution master) and can contain a higher colour bit depth compared to regular 720p or 1080p standard Blu-ray discs. The [Ultra HD Premium](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160104006605/en/UHD-Alliance-Defines-Premium-Home-Entertainment-Experience) standard has specific requirements regarding the actual disc consumers do receive, along with the master (the original source) of the material prior to putting it onto a Blu-ray disc. Colour depth as described before, is classified in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range), and [HDR](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range) (High Dynamic Range). Common standards of HDR are [HDR10](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDR10) (the most common variant), [HDR10+](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDR10%2B) (using dynamic metadata for adjusting), [Dolby Vision](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Vision) (using dynamic metadata for adusting; although licensed as some Blu-ray players or TV sets can not display them such as Samsung TVs) and [HLG](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_log%E2%80%93gamma) (backward compatble with SDR).
