No microtransactions, although it does have DLC's. There are some doors you can't pass through unless you buy those, which is a little annoying but you always have another option. I do think it's better played with a controller though since the action can be very fast paced.

What usually also works on Linux is selecting text with the mouse and pasting it by pressing the middle mouse button (or scroll wheel). You'd still need the mouse, but it's at least a little quicker ☺️

"We cannot talk about a so-called safe level of alcohol use. It doesn’t matter how much you drink – the risk to the drinker’s health starts from the first drop of any alcoholic beverage," Dr Carina Ferreira-Borges, acting Unit Lead for Noncommunicable Disease Management and Regional Advisor for Alcohol and Illicit Drugs in the WHO Regional Office for Europe explained.
I feel like we don't hear this enough. Smoking is being targeted by policies a lot more than drinking, while drinking comes with a heavy burden on society too (alcoholism, violence etc.).

It's a local program (I live in the Netherlands) for people with autism or similar issues. They teach you html and java and some other stuff I don't remember. Eventually they help you to work on projects they do for other businesses and even find a job with a "regular" company, but only if you're ready for that and able to do it. It's government funded and aside from the IT professionals, they also have healthcare professionals who help you with any issues you encounter in the work environment. After having been unemployed for years due to mental health issues, it's a very exciting opportunity for me. I've already visited the company and the people and work environment there seem really suitable.

Hell, even today a shitload of websites I visit on FF just don’t fucking render correctly and I’ll have to fire up a chromium instance just to access them.
Can you link to an example? I remember this from years ago, but haven't encountered it for a long time.

- I started using Lemmy
- Got back on Mastodon when it got rolling a bit more. I follow more accounts now and it's actually fun.
- Got back on linux after a 5 year hiatus. I should have done it a whole lot sooner, I enjoy using my computer more.
- Needed a laptop and instead of buying a new one, I got a secondhand laptop from a local system administrator who put linux on it. Debian is great and I love the old Thinkpad.
- I've applied to a learn/work program in web development. I haven't started yet, but I will soon. I'm so excited for that.

Ugh... Went to an outdoor swimming pool this spring for the first time in years. Decided to dry up in the sun instead of toweling off. Laid down in the grass for 10, maybe 15 minutes, got slowly covered in ants. The next day I discovered I had a tick. Took me a while to go swimming again...

NL as well. Maybe it's because it's a big city, poor neighbourhood, more theft, I don't know, but I'm done with it.

Also, some places do random inspection. But that’s frustration free too
Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with that. They've recently ramped up those checks because of increased theft due to inflation. They also scan more items now. After having been checked 4 times in a row and them completely emptying my bag each time, I no longer use the self checkout.

This is so much better! Tooltips now disappear when the mouse moves, as they should. The only place where it doesn't happen yet is in the application launcher, where they remain when I click a program, but the tooltips don't leave the launcher and since it disappears when you click a program, they don't cover any other windows. I tried all kinds of things to get the tooltips to cover the active window like before, but they won't stick when I move the mouse anymore. Thanks so much! 😌

I haven't tried that yet. I had some issues with Wayland in a VM before I installed it on the bare metal, so I stuck with the default X11. I'll try it out and report back.
I'm a new user of KDE having recently installed OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. I'm happy with most of it, but I have one big annoyance: the incessant appearance of tooltips and them not going away when the mouse moves. This is on X11, not Wayland. I often have windows overlapping or next to each other. When switching windows and moving the mouse, I move over an inactive window to the active one. A tooltip then appears for an item of the inactive window that is in the background. In my opinion it shouldn't, because the window is inactive, but it does. What is even more annoying is that the tooltip will remain on screen, over the active window, even when I maximize the active window. It will be displayed on top of it. It often happens that I fullscreen a video only for there to be a tooltip from an inactive window displayed over it, or a tooltip from the program that spawned the fullscreen video. The only way to remove the tooltip is to activate the inactive window, move my mouse so the tooltip disappears, switch to the previous window again and then very carefully make sure I don't trigger any new tooltips in the inactive window. I'm not always successful at this, which means I have to repeat this process. This seriously impacts my enjoyment of the system. I have already tried some solutions, disabling tooltips for titlebars in the System settings/Appearance/Window Decorations/Titlebar Buttons section and unchecking the "Display informational tooltips on mouse hover" checkbox in Workspace behaviour. Signing out and back in and rebooting have no effect. The options just don't do anything, except remove the window preview tooltips from the Task Manager, which I do need to navigate between windows. These previews should not be classified as tooltips in my opinion, but that's another matter. What are some other options I could try? Even though I appreciate tooltips sometimes to help me learn about this new system, at this point I'd rather there be none at all than having to deal with this annoying behaviour. Ideally I would like to disable tooltips for inactive windows, or conversely only show them for active windows. If that's not possible however, I'd like to learn how to disable them completely since the options in settings have no effect. Some software information: KDE: 5.27.8 KDE Frameworks: 5.110.0 Qt: 5.15.11 Kernel: 6.5.6-1-default (64-bit) Graphics platform: X11 Thanks for any suggestions.

The words can be copyrighted alright, that's not the problem here. Even without publishing them, the creator already has copyright over his 624 words. There's probably nobody who would be interested in publishing them because, let's face it, they aren't that interesting on their own, unlike a novel or a poem. All the stuff that makes this a piece of art is added by the AI, whereas a printing press adds very little to nothing to a book.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. Focusing on what the scripture says only legitimizes the hatred religious people choose to display. Someone's either homophobic or they're not, and excusing themselves with religious arguments is just weak. Let's not encourage it.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 are on sale now on GOG, at least in my region. They're hella affordable:
https://www.gog.com/game/baldurs_gate_enhanced_edition
https://www.gog.com/en/game/baldurs_gate_2_enhanced_edition
Apparently the GOG versions also contain the original games, unlike the Steam versions. And they're much cheaper, even without the discount. They also run on really low specs.

It just goes to show how an accusation like this sticks to a company's reputation. The reason for your company switching could be totally unrelated, yet your mind still jumps to this. Have you asked why they're switching?

Free mental healthcare is a great idea, but it will only partially solve the problem. Men tend to use mental healthcare way less than women. Where I live (where it's basically free) there are some efforts to get men into programs, like support groups specifically for men, but these don't change the situation much. There needs to be a cultural change as well, aside from societal improvements to better everybody's lives.

SUSE because of Yast and the (german) company’s rumored?stance on antisemitism
I was really surprised to read about the antisemitism allegation. That's a very serious accusation. I've looked into it and it seems that these claims are controversial. First thing to mention is that the accuser said himself that this was about the company SUSE, and not the distribution openSUSE.
The article claims there are emails and other employees' statements as proof, but provides none. The article is also over a year old, so why hasn't this led to any public statements from SUSE or any legal or other actions? Antisemitism is a serious offense in Germany.
Discussions on reddit and hacker news all state that the writer has gone off the rails. When being called out on reddit for deadnaming a trans woman, he plays dumb. I don't think he's dumb. It seems to me like he's transphobic and acting like a troll about it in good old American conservative fashion.
For me, this seriously calls into question any claims he makes about social justice stuff, even if it concerns himself. He apparently views other people's social justice as something to play with, so my gut feeling is that it would be no concern to him to lie or bend the truth about stuff like this in order to achieve something. It's all a game to him in the political arena, not serious life issues.
If I'm wrong, all he has to do is provide the proof he claims there is, even if only anonymized.

Yeah, I looked it up the other day and apparently it only gives less results with words flagged with "-". It's stupid because a few years ago there was syntax to exclude a term completely, so it's definitely possible to do. I don't understand why they just won't.

Well, if you need to tell people that, it's not clear enough and thus breaks the law. I don't know what it looks like and I can imagine you used a third party to provide it, but for user friendliness it could be a good idea to change it. I doubt you would get into legal trouble though since a lot of websites use this same format, but I always hate it when I see it.

One of the car companies is quoted as having caused no serious injuries or deaths, so it seems like the 90 incidents number only includes those. Unfortunately the article doesn't question those numbers or explain what is counted, which is very poor journalism. I don't understand how they can write about the protesters' motivations without asking how many moving violations those cars have caused, or at least mention that this number is unknown.
If the numbers indeed don't count the times where they block traffic, stop for no reason or block emergency vehicles where they need to wait for the company to send someone out to the car, then AV's could be far worse than human drivers, not only in the number of incidents but also in the total delays they cause. At least a human driver can be removed from the car so that someone more competent can take over and resolve the situation quickly. And a human generally doesn't just stop in a lane and refuse to move out of the way for a very long time.
Another bonus: a human can just remove a cone from the hood and continue driving.
