I wholeheartedly agree with the end, I am sometimes at odds with the means but it can't be denied that these activists have some of the biggest balls on the planet and I have nothing but respect for them. The message is clear and consistent, garnering huge publicity for the cause is good. I know some people don't like it but you try getting a multi trillion pound industry to cease causing irreparable harm and you probably wouldn't make your local paper.

What should be remembered is that it shouldn't take this type of activism, but what is left when voices are ignored?

Constant appeasement has been the cause of so much more conflict as a whole. No sane country wants conflict but when it arises, it needs to be crushed at its source. It cannot stand and each nation should be afraid to commit such atrocities in fear of the response. Tying conditions to aid given to the Ukrainian war effort is ludicrous. France should be very proud of their commitment to fight for what is very clearly right and other nations should follow in their footsteps. I am not advocating that Ukraine starts blasting missiles at civilians centres in Russia but they should be free to strike infrastructure that has clear ties to the invasion. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

I think this matter boils down to the following: Nuclear is better than fossil fuels (by a significant margin) but the spin up time and investment is significant, too significant for many. Such little investment has been made in the last 10 or so years that investing now when the world is on the precipice of being able (though clearly, not very willing) to use wholly renewable sources seems like a better investment, even with the various pitfalls of each respective source. Energy storage has come a long way and with significant leaps every few years, it seems that energy storage + renewables is the way forward but it's sad to see the missed nuclear opportunity. Like so many other promising and environmentally friendly(er) ideas, it has unfortunately been passed over when the time was right and will not be utilised sufficiently.

Considering the affected models, this is absolutely ludicrous. Those vehicles already suffer from diminished battery capacities, with some being around the 50% mark at this point, so to further corrode owner experience is ridiculous. Early adopters paved the way for the current spate of EVs so punishing them for this is outrageous. The article states 2G networks will remain live for almost another 6 years. Giving that reason as the cause of the loss of functionality is so disingenuous it is beyond belief. What a way to inspire confidence in your company...

What do you guys think about the Young Money ban?

I'm interested in knowing some other thoughts of the ban. 1 year for match throwing. I've seen some pros saying that they shouldn't have had to do that, so it's the format's fault. What do you think?

I've not read most on yours bar Piranesi which is genuinely wonderful. I really enjoyed that.

My wishlist is an absolute mess. Every time I finish a book, instead of removing one from my list, I find a new book and occasionally add to it. Here it is:

    • Echogenesis

"Ocean At The End Of The Lane" by Neil Gayman

    Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson

    A discovery of witches.

    The witching hour.

    The Circle

    The god box

    Project Hail Mary

I'll pile in on what is already pretty well answered. I loved the entire series. The first book feels different to the remaining 3 but I did not find the remaining 3 lacking. By no means are they perfect but in some way, that's better. As some other people have mentioned, there is some controversy surrounding the Endymion books but I found out after reading them which confirmed by suspicions after reading the books. Some politics definitely leaks in so you'll have to make up your own mind on whether or not you'd like to partake.

In an attempt to answer your question though, yes, the sequels are worth reading in my opinion. No book is yet to replicate the scope of the world that is created in Hyperion. I love the lore that creeps in and the individuality of the characters which is best showcased in book 1 but is definitely present in book 2. The overall story is incredibly well told and satisfying. The end of book 2 was great, I did not realise until reading comments that others did not enjoy it as much as I did. Books 3 and 4 tell a different, yet related story, which is also genuinely wonderful. I was swept away in to the Hyperion universe by all of them.

If you do decide to read them, I hope you enjoy.

As a side note, the audiobooks are great but the narrator is not consistent with certain names and locations which is, to this day, one of my biggest pet peeves about audiobooks (albeit generally)

It must be so difficult to recognise the difference between agenda driven propaganda and genuine reporting, especially if the infrastructure for free press isn't there. It's really sad when you think about it

I hear the narrative that people shouldn't protest in this way but I have taken to asking what is the alternative? If you are silent, your discontent will go unnoticed. The real problem is that we are having to do this at all. As far as I'm concerned, these people are genuine heroes, fighting against a lobby masquerading as a government. A damn shame

I was not aware of that! Thank you for mentioning it. It has always seemed crazy to me that customers have no charge over assets on bankruptcy. In a better world, that'd be the case but that's not the world we live in.

As an aside, this is the sort of thing that is going to hinder investment in small firms in the auto industry, further compiling the issue of a few manufacturers setting ridiculous prices for their vehicles.

This is a real bummer. I saw these guys on The Fully Charged Show a couple of years back and their first car looked incredibly promising. But the auto industry is not easy to break and investors know that. Hopefully the solar roofs will prove profitable enough for them to try again.

You seem to completely disregard the fact that freeing up "a few units here and there" will have a material impact that lessens the need for immediate building of more houses in already overpopulated areas. I'm not saying, by any stretch, that we shouldn't build but obfuscating the issue with another does not help. The short term rental market is an issue for a lot of people.

Agreed. It's just such a bummer. All of the big sensor phones operate it like a gimmick and you get a camera with a tacked on phone. What would be beneficial is a good phone with a big sensor. I think the images would slowly change the minds of general consumers

At some point, I hope manufacturers start giving us bigger sensors, rather than insisting on raising the MP of the sensor. I love the modern era where most smartphones are offering great point and shoot photos, but the bigger sensors are really the best way to innovate in that area

That's right! You've made an excellent decision. I sound like a PR person for Lev Grossman at this point but those books are absolutely fantastic.

Another one to check out that is slightly more adult oriented are the Bloodsworn books by John Gwynn. Sadly, his daughter passed away so he hasn't yet spoken of the release date but of the third book yet, though the name was released recently so I believe it is being worked on. It's too be titled 'Fury of the Gods'. From what I can tell, that couldn't have happened to a nicer guy so it's truly heartbreaking, but his literature is fantastic.

Second the Hyperion books, though they are a fair slog, but well worth it!!

I see a lot of recommendations for the deadly education series but I did not enjoy it at all. I finished the first book out of pure sunk cost, but I really did not like the book or the narration.

If you're looking for less YA, you could try my favourite book series, The Magicians.

We've got our garden back. Our retaining wall collapsed in February and we didn't want to pay a contractor to do it so we decided to do it ourselves. We made a 15m³ gabion wall filled with found materials. We had to pay for laying of our new porcelain slabs but, as of this morning, there is only a slight tidy up left! Such a weight off. Now we can finally enjoy it... Going in to winter... a win anyway!

Whilst it's sad that we need such efforts, the fact that these conservation groups are able to collaborate in such a way is testament to their skill and ability, in light of what they are tackling. They should feel so fantastic about this. Hopefully we can see rhinos and other protected species thrive over the next decade or so
