Not really, actually. I find it hard to stomach most modern music like rap, pop, or hip-hop. I guess the most well-known artist I listen to is Beethoven, because Ode to Joy slaps.

Is Early Childhood a required class?

I’ve just received my schedule for the upcoming school year, and one of my listed classes was “Early Childhood”. I did not choose this as one of my electives; I’m not sure where it came from. I intend to speak with my counselor and get it changed, but I’m unsure if it’s required or not. I don’t want to waste my time changing a class that I’ll have to take eventually.

I’ve yet to read The Clerical Quintet, but the Legend of Drizzt is a rather fun series. It’s a bit heavy on the swordplay, but it’s got fun characters going on fun adventures. It does veer into more serious territory at times, especially in the ::: spoiler spoiler Legacy of the Drow series and the Silent Blade ::: For books written in the 90’s, they have very little questionable material. There is a bit of uncomfortable stereotyping in The Halfling’s Gem, but Bob gets better with writing different kinds of people in the later books. If you buy the paperbacks, they’re the perfect size to tuck in a coat pocket for a quick read here and there.

    8.5/10 series, would strongly recommend.

    1. It’s two-fold. My favorite children’s fantasy series is The Magisterium, despite its many (many) flaws. My favorite adult series is the Legend of Drizzt.

    2. I don’t own too much sci-fi, so no series, but To Sleep in a Sea of Stars was a very good book.

    3. I don’t like horror.

    4. Chewing my way through all 40 of the Legend of Drizzt books currently so I can buy the new one.

Bonus: Bruenor Battlehammer and his daughter Catti-Brie.

I suppose my wording was unclear. These are not truly documentaries. I was thinking of the Hitler’s Secret Weapon!!!! or How Will We Ever Know How People Stacked Rocks???? types. They pose and present themselves as documentaries, giving the watcher the sense they’re learning, but at best the viewer learns nothing. At worst it’s thinly veiled racism cough Ancient Aliens cough.

I want to see documentaries without the sensationalism that plagues so many today. I want to see media educating people on everything from black holes to the development of agriculture to the mating habits of the common house spider.

I may be biased here, as I’m writing a similiar story, but I’d also like to see a science fiction show about socialist nations banding together to fight a capitalist threat.

I’m fond of Dixieland of the Proletariat. They do a lot of interviews with people from different parties, activists, etc. One of their recurring guests is a woman who talks about indigenous rights and decolonization. It’s a lot less theory than other podcasts, more current events.

I grew up near the ocean, so sea shanties hold a special place in my heart. I especially like the original call-and-response ones that sailors sung as they worked; I just adore the rhythm it has.

I’m also fond of the Clancy Brothers and the High Kings because my mother owned a bunch of their CDs when I was tiny. I actually stumbled across the High Kings on my own. When I listened to some of their songs I got this odd feeling I had heard them before. I go rifling through my mum’s music, and bam- the exact album I had been listening to.

The Irish Rovers are pretty good; definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, though. I found them through their Drunken Sailor album, and my god their songs are addictive.

CPUSA’s hamsic. It’s classic, but it’s got a unique flair to it. I like how half of the circle is a sickle, while the other is a gear.

Sauerkraut, cabbages, and boiled potatoes. People underestimate just how good potatoes and cabbages are when you just chuck them in a pot of boiling water. It’s simple, yeah, but it’s amazing.

I’d like to also learn German. I find Irish and Nahuatl to be fascinating, but they’re daunting and there doesn’t seem to be resources online to learn them.

White-Throated Sparrows functionally have four sexes. They have tan-stripe male, white-stripe male, tan-stripe female, and white-stripe female. The white-striped sexes are promiscuous, defensive over their territory, and good singers, while tan-stripe sexes are loyal, quiet, and good parents. Broods with white-white or tan-tan parents tend to fail.

The mutation that causes white-stripe forms creates a portion of chromosome that can’t swap genetic material with unmutated genes, which keeps the forms from blending back together. The mutation is also passed on about 50% of the time. Because of that, the white-tan divide can function as a sex divide.

This is actually super weird because while fish, amphibians, and reptiles love to get weird with reproduction, birds and mammals are pretty vanilla about it. I find the fact that a rather derived bird (which are highly derived themselves!) found a way to get funky about sex super cool.

Can you tell I’m passionate about birds?

There have been clear-cut cases of trans people for centuries (Albert Cashier and James Barry come to mind), and possible ones for millennia, like that Roman ruler who might have been a trans woman. The only reason we don’t have as many instances of trans people in the past is because they’ve been buried by the sands of time. We’ve always existed, and we’ll always exist. Anything else is reactionary garbage.

    Completely agree, comrade.

Gardening really helps me when I’m going through a rough patch. There’s something spiritual about watching a plant grow from a tiny seed to a six-foot flower and knowing that you cared for it every step of the way. Vegetable gardening is even better because you can eat what you grew. I love to hear my neighbors gush about how fresh my green beans taste.
