I had a peek at season 5, new captain and no ivanova. The new captain has some of the Ivanova attributes from what I can see in the first episode.
First impressions I don't think it's a huge loss, I found ivanova the least engaging of everyone, Marcus was an interesting foil for her as he was so engaging.

That's a lot of rape... Humans have such a fascination with some types of "moral problems" yet seem to care nothing for others.

Interesting, the story feels finished to a certain degree. I'll go looking for this third space movie.
What an absolutely amazing story! I thought it was reasonably well paced as well. Best week of recovering from covid ever. Sheridan getting shafted by Earth in the end and still out politicking them was the chef's kiss. After watching that over one week, What now?

Trying to get back into the whole work thing this week. Still recovering from a bug so just doing wee bits at a time then heading home exhausted.
On the upshot, I worked really hard before Christmas to set this year up well and it has paid dividends, still very little to do yet as I had preloaded everything last year!
Really wanting to prioritise family this year and not continuing to be a consumer removed. Which might mean a paycut, but while the kids are still young I think it's worth it.

Just finished season 3, fan-flipping-tastic. Season 4 and cortage is a great new character.

To be fair, I've wanted to like the show for decades. I love DS9 as a binge watch and recently flipped between a rewatch and giving B5 another crack. I think I would often get to episode 7 in season 1 and lose interest. It hooked me this time. The jump from pilot to episode 1 was a little jarring, but man it had me completely this time.
All the characters are so brilliant in their own way. Faceless weird aliens who say less than 3 words in an interaction (Kosh and "Kosh") have dramatic character development and differences.
The "nice guy at first" but jerk doctor who's just like his dad who he struggles with.
Just waiting to see if walkabout works for him.
G'Kar and Molari, the aides... Ah it's such a rich tapestry.

About 15 episodes into season 3, holy crap it just keeps getting better. They manage to do the "war" thing sooo much better than ds9 did the dominion war.
Also Walter Koenig is fantastic. Just watching Ship of Tears.
Just got up to the episode where they introduce the Nightwatch. It's a brilliant piece of writing depicting the use of "special roles" to "help". They instantly reminded me of the "brown shirts" and equivalent that Mussolini and Hitler used when Fascism was first popularised. It's scary that it is still so relevant. Almost as if we don't learn from history (or science fiction for that matter).

Enjoy that no kids thing! The break without them every now and again is so essential. We only manage one or two weekends a year with four of the blighters.

RNZ is great, Of the mediums it doesn't have the same reach, it's quality which should happen on TVNZ etc. I know they are funded as well, but it seems like they are just as bad as everyone else.

Was going to get this for my place. Will be interested to hear your review once it's done.

I kinda think we should have an independent, protected and taxpayer funded media service. Would make for better politicians.
Just watching Babylon 5 through as I sit recovering from another bout of COVID. This line from the episode "Infection" was brilliant. Really enjoying the binge so far, even if the jump between the pilot and episode 1 was a little jarring.

I've also noticed that for some communities, such as the conservative community, the posts get downvoted heaps because they are as accessible as any community. On Reddit I just wouldn't have seen their posts. This potentially makes it unwelcome for people of particular ideologies. (Possibly a self governing trait of the wider community)

Normally I do go silent, I made the fatal mistake this year of work not providing a work number, so have had people calling my personal number (sometimes a gamble). Also has sucked being in a fledgling managerial position and having a huge number of "issues" that have cropped up (starting a new service so haven't quite got the infrastructure in place yet in terms of phones etc).

I'm on leave, but everyone has returned to work and have been needing to get in touch. It kinda ruins leave and I'm thinking I'll come back to work early and recoup my time later in the year.
Has been a cracker holidays though, especially this last week. Have loved connecting with my kids over new hobbies and interests.

I mean, in this day and age why isn't [insert what I know to be true] accepted by [everyone who I perceive to be wrong]. Hegel leads to another Russian smart man who argues a bunch of it might be due to this idea of perezhivanie; how we make sense of what is happening (particularly dramatic events) through our cognition, our emotions and filtered through our needs.
How we make sense of stuff leads to how we behave/believe. This is impacted by our social environment, how we are brought up, our experiences, and our reasoning of those experiences.
It's why it is argued that information alone will never change someone's mind about something, it needs to be attached to an emotion and an experience to unpack.

I'm curious, what happens when you block a user? Do you just not see anything from them anymore? Cause that seems like a super effective way to not get irate at a user you really don't agree with on anything and can't have a civil conversation with.

I think using process is pretty important and urgency should be used when needed, not just to get a bunch of anti-the last regime policies through.
This is how I understand our governments movements. Everything they have done this with this time could have gone through proper process.
Our leader even said that his politicians were uninterested in hearing what experts in the fields think or what the longer term issues might be from the decisions.

Probably not, I was curious. It's a pretty petty thing to be annoyed about.
The internet is full of people that may like to share some idiosyncrasies for the entertainment. These things are unique and at the end of the day is truly unimportant.
Except I'm right and that person that has no divider at all is possibly on watch lists.

Sadly it feels (unsure about factual numbers) that NZ is heading to similar styles as the US in terms of politics.
Two elections ago our slightly right of centre main party used popularist Trump/MAGA style campaigning and got slammed for it.
However the latest govt has bypassed a bunch of good process (using urgency) to just repeel a bunch of stuff the previous govt put in place.

I like having knives, forks, spoons left to right as that is how I say it "grab a knife and fork". I am staying in an Airbnb and they have the spoons separating the knives and forks and wonder if this is in insane or maybe I am the minority/insane one?
