I don't know anything at all about either one of their acting skills, but they at least appear to look the part. I'm still going to miss Cavill, not because his movies were any good (they were absolute dogshit, every single one), but because he never got a chance to play Superman, just his dour, depressed cousin Jake Kent.

Mods. I know that's not really helpful, but it really is how many of us continue to enjoy it. That said, there are still things you can do to spice up your gameplay on vanilla. The biggest one is this- try a different playstyle. Archery is incredibly effective, so try making a character who absolutely refuses to use one because his whole family was slaughtered by a rogue sentient bow that laughed at him while it did it. Recruit different companions and try to keep them alive in different situations. Be an absolutely evil sonofaremoved and kill everyone the game allows you to. Try Oblivion, for a similar, but distinctly different (and in my opinion, slightly superior, despite Skyrim's many advantages) experience. Or, most simply, stop trying to get blood from a stone, and put the game down until the itch actually returns, not until you feel like it should've. Best of luck to you.

Maria and Fury both shapeshift into Skrulls (Talos and Soren) in the end credits scene of FFH.
PrinceHabib72 1 year ago • 100%
That was... Not great. Despite everyone having dealt with Skrulls, they sure don't bother confirming anyone's identity. I kept waiting for Fury, Hill, and Talos to have some sort of code words or something, but no. Plus, Fury both didn't question that his old friend Sonya forgot his preferred drink (Skrulls, to his knowledge, can't copy memories, it was a pretty big plot point of Captain Marvel) and how the random guy in the bar knew who he was. Even a bit of suspicion and boom, they got the bad guy. I also feel like they wouldn't have trusted Gaia so easily, but I guess it's Talos's daughter, he'd think the best of her.
But that ending. You cast the amazing Cobie Smulders for Avengers, have her be a side character with almost nothing to do for over ten years, and kill her one episode into the first story she's actually a part of. Why? What a waste of not only Cobie, but Maria Hill. One of the only other movies she had anything to do in was Far From Home, and that wasn't even actually Maria (speaking of, where was real Maria during FFH? Real Fury was in space, but real Maria was presumably on Earth).
Overall, a fairly frustrating watch.
Discuss the first episode!

That's more than fair. I am just refusing to interact with the shop or battle pass and it's going fine so far, though I will admit, I didn't get as immediately hooked on it as I did with Diablo 3. Then again, I bought D3 years after launch, so a lot of the shittier aspects had been fixed by then.
Just a quick post to let the mod know to check the title of the sub and C what he's missed.

Well, he was acquitted after five hours of deliberation, so it must have been pretty convincing. As for how they responded to that specific quote, I'm not sure, as that- while a true quote- didn't occur in the courtroom. I looked into it further and the first mention I can see of it is in the San Bernardino County Sun on Friday, June 5th, 1970, and he said it to reporters.

The Distinguished Service Cross, the second highest honor available after the Medal of Honor, was awarded for his actions in Anzio. After killing two Germans with his carbine, Murphy ran out of ammo. He retreated back down the hill, took a light machine gun from a soldier unwilling to advance, and used that to destroy multiple German machine gun crews, along with his best friend, Lattie Tipton. Tipton was killed when a German machine gunner pretended to surrender. Now alone, Audie killed the gunner, the rest of the gunners crew, then pretty much everything else on the hill unlucky enough to be wearing the wrong uniform. When the rest of the platoon finally caught up, Audie was sitting guard over Tipton's body.
Here is his full Medal of Honor Citation. Keep in mind as you read that Audie had malaria for the entire duration of the war:
Rank and organization: Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, Company B 15th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division.
Place and date: Near Holtzwihr France, January 26, 1945.
Entered service at: Dallas, Texas. Birth: Hunt County, near Kingston, Texas, G.O. No. 65, August 9, 1944.
Citation: Second Lt. Murphy commanded Company B, which was attacked by six tanks and waves of infantry. 2d Lt. Murphy ordered his men to withdraw to a prepared position in a woods, while he remained forward at his command post and continued to give fire directions to the artillery by telephone. Behind him, to his right, one of our tank destroyers received a direct hit and began to burn. Its crew withdrew to the woods. 2d Lt. Murphy continued to direct artillery fire, which killed large numbers of the advancing enemy infantry. With the enemy tanks abreast of his position, 2d Lt. Murphy climbed on the burning tank destroyer, which was in danger of blowing up at any moment, and employed its .50 caliber machine gun against the enemy. He was alone and exposed to German fire from three sides, but his deadly fire killed dozens of Germans and caused their infantry attack to waver. The enemy tanks, losing infantry support, began to fall back. For an hour the Germans tried every available weapon to eliminate 2d Lt. Murphy, but he continued to hold his position and wiped out a squad that was trying to creep up unnoticed on his right flank. Germans reached as close as 10 yards, only to be mowed down by his fire. He received a leg wound, but ignored it and continued his single-handed fight until his ammunition was exhausted. He then made his way back to his company, refused medical attention, and organized the company in a counterattack, which forced the Germans to withdraw. His directing of artillery fire wiped out many of the enemy; he killed or wounded about 50. 2d Lt. Murphy's indomitable courage and his refusal to give an inch of ground saved his company from possible encirclement and destruction, and enabled it to hold the woods which had been the enemy's objective.
During the event that earned him his Medal of Honor, an officer asked Audie over the radio how close the Germans were. He responded, "Hold on and I'll let you talk to one." After returning from the war, Audie Murphy suffered heavily from PTSD and got addicted to pills, at which point he locked himself in a hotel room for a week until he got over it. He became an actor after writing his autobiography, To Hell and Back, and starred as himself in a film adaptation of the same in 1955, which remained the highest grossing film up until Jaws. He downplayed significant elements of the Medal of Honor citation event in the film because he thought people would accuse him of making it up. When he was shooting a film in Vietnam in the fifties, he was so horrified by the conditions there that he emptied most of his earnings into an orphanage in Saigon. He became involved in the drug war when he visited an addict's home with a policeman friend and saw the addict's two young daughters playing on a dirty floor. He helped bring about more than twenty convictions. In 1970, he was tried for attempted murder after getting into a fight with a 6'3" man who had abused a dog belonging to Murphy's female friend, and who had also sexually harassed the friend. The man claimed Murphy had fired a gun at him after a scuffle, Murphy's response to which was, and this is a direct quote, "I think it is injurious to my reputation to think that I could fire a shot at a target as large as Mr. Gofstein and miss." He was acquitted after the rest of his defense boiled down to, "If I had wanted to kill you, Mr. Gofstein, you would not be here now."
If I could spend one hour with anyone, alive or dead, it would be Audie Murphy.

Yes and no. It is true that going to reddit to troll reddit benefits reddit in the short term, but I think it's harmful in the long term. By making /r/pics, /r/gifs, and /r/aww John Oliver themed, /r/wellthatsucks becoming vacuum themed, and /r/interestingasfuck and /r/iOS becoming essentially unmoderated, it is making those communities ultimately pointless, irritating users away from the site, and raising awareness. John Oliver even tweeted about it and provided dozens of pictures for their use, and it's likely at this point that LWT will do something on the situation when the writer's strike is over. I've only gone to reddit to vote in the troll polls- I don't think that's the kind of engagement reddit actually wants at this point.

The addiction rate among pain patients is low, but those patients may still be over prescribed and sell the excess. That said, I hate how controlled they are. I don't abuse or sell and it's a constant fight with my doctors to prescribe anything for kidney stone pain, which I get several of a year.

There is actually an advantage to being part of a larger instance if you want to browse everything, actually. An instance is federated with another when a user from Instance A subscribes to a community from Instance B. The more users in an instance, the more people to subscribe to other instances, federating that instance with more instances for all users.

Reddit, obviously. Way more content and activity. If you're just finding out about both, you don't know about the API kerfuffle and the UI isn't so terrible that someone who's just getting exposed to it would care because they have no frame of reference. There's no way the average person would choose Kbin over reddit if they really are just learning about both at the same time.

Yes, but reddit can undo it. A little while back, /r/KotakuInAction was nuked by the head mod, who had not been an active moderator for years. He deleted all content and set the subreddit to private. However, since his actions were malicious and the rest of the mods could only watch since he was above them in the mod order, reddit admins removed him from the mod list and restored the subreddit to before the mod went crazy. This is likely the same logic they'll use to reopen the subs, only it doesn't work since it's not the work of one rogue mod, but the mod team as a whole.

It's not a silly question at all, and it's one of the most unintuitive parts of the Fediverse. The most straightforward way is to go to the community you want to subscribe to (you can see a fairly comprehensive list at browse.feddit.de). Copy the URL from that community. Go back to Kbin and paste that URL into the search bar. If it doesn't show up immediately, wait a few seconds then refresh, and it should.
There is some shorthand to how you can search- for example, searching "!(community name)@(instance home URL)" works as well, but Kbin in particular is a bit odd because it uses an @ for both community and instance, instead of the rest of Lemmy which uses the !. Like I said, the most straightforward way is just to copy the URL itself and figure out the shortcuts later.

You're very welcome, I'm glad it was helpful. I'm still learning about all this myself.
PrinceHabib72 1 year ago • 100%
So the answer to your original question is yes, some instances are closed off from others, but you didn't mess anything up. Instance A can "defederate" from Instance B, which makes it so that users of either instance cannot see or interact with content or users from the other instance. This is unilateral- even if Instance B does not defederate Instance A, it is still blocked from seeing or interacting with Instance A.
However, with regards to your later questions, you didn't mess anything up. It's simply that federation is not retroactive. When the first person from Instance A subscribes to something from Instance B, the two instances are then federated, and content begins being shared from that point forward. It does not retroactively add old content from Instance B to Instance A. For now, it matters relatively heavily, as instances are being federated constantly, even though the content flow is somewhat light. As content flow increases and new instances begin to stabilize, it will matter less. As time goes on, the content "before federation" will be vastly outweighed by the content "after federation".
This is all somewhat compounded by the fact that lemmy instances are absolutely slammed right now. Kbin.social had to defederate entirely for a while just to keep from crashing. Give it time for the spike to stabilize and it will work more smoothly.

Okay, but the same thing would have happened if they all joined Beehaw directly, or were spread out among many many instances. Part of Beehaw's logic was "Well, a disproportionate amount of moderation had to be done to lemmy.world so we defederated", but isn't that simply because there are more users on that particular instance? If, for example, we assume every single lemmy.world user joined separate instances and behaved the exact same way, would Beehaw have defederated all of their instances? If not, then the response wasn't the correct one, in my opinion. What happened is that Beehaw saw their mod work increasing, and nuked a large portion of their active userbase (federated users from non-Beehaw instances) to cut it down to try to maintain the culture they're trying to build. Unfortunately, I think all it will have done is throttled their growth and Beehaw will become an isolated instance with no large communities on its own, because the communities that were there (that lemmy.world was participating in) will just be recreated on different instances.
PrinceHabib72 1 year ago • 100%
I hear what you're saying, but the reason it took me until the reddit blackout to join lemmy, even though I'd heard of it right after the API pricing was announced, was because I was paralyzed by choice and FOMO. What if I join an instance that gets defederated, or defederates, from something I enjoy? I have to either make a separate account over there or never see that content. Look at what just happened with Beehaw. If I'd stayed on lemmy.world (the first instance I joined), I'd be shit out of luck because half of what I'm subscribed to is Beehaw. The instance I'm on now has (so far) not defederated ANYTHING, which for me is a good thing, since it leaves my options completely open, regardless of whether I intend to use those options or not. It still doesn't protect my instance from BEING defederated, but there's nothing I can do about that. That type of uncertainty and FOMO needs to be addressed if the fediverse is going to continue to expand.
PrinceHabib72 1 year ago • 100%
Not that I know of without going to that instance, and possibly signing up on that instance depending on how they have it set up. Then to actually subscribe you have to manually copy the URLs into the search bar of your home instance. It's definitely an issue, and I hope they streamline subscribing to remote communities soon.
