I mean, it is a soap opera and the characters are pretty good. It is on Netflix.

A super violent Spanish soap opera called the Wrong Side of the Tracks.

It is just nice to be able to comment and have it read instead of buried 3000 comments down after the memes and one-liners.

Sorry. No deal currently. I meant, that’s what I’d buy it at if it was on sale.

I have to look up a bunch of these ones. Gaiman is excellent and the Ocean book is good but not his best. Mistborn is simply outstanding though and I devoured them. Hail Mary I know about and want it on sale. I don’t recognize the rest.

I would snatch it up on a sale for $5! I just finished the Martian and loved it.

I read those 25 years ago. I gotta say, I was a rather underwhelmed but by all means read Book 1 and form your own view.

This? Are they are good?

Awesome. I am looking forward to getting back into Hamilton and Sanderson!
Currently, I have the following books on my wish list that I am thinking about buying. Salvation by Peter Hamilton. I have read everything he has published except his short stories and love them so this is next on my to-read list. Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman. Seems kinda cool. Seven Deadly Wonders by Matthew Reilly. It seems like a book in a similar vein as Jurassic Park, Dan Brown, Clive Cussler type stuff. Pernasi By Susanna Clarke. I read her first book nearly 20 years ago and thought it was good. I really like creative sci-fi stuff. I am re-reading the Ninefox Gambit series again currently so this seems right up my alley. Brandon Sanderson Way of Kings Book 3. Yeah, I probably need to start with Book 1 again and catch up. Has anyone read his Secret Books yet?

Good point. I do prefer books over short stories though.
Do any science fiction book subscriptions exist anymore with reasonably good quality books? About 10 years ago I was able to subscribe to a year of Angry Robot books for about $120 or $150. It wasn’t a bad deal as I remember I got about 24 books for the price.

I just finished that one as well. I thought it was good but not good enough to commit to reading the second White Knight book. I thought Batman Hush Batman Universe, and Batman RIP were much better.

Excellent advice. I will review the site!
I go back and forth on digital, but if it is cheaper than paper in this case, maybe it makes sense if I can find the right collections.

The local used book store just closed. I will have to travel out a bit further.
The 35-year retrospective is excellent but not portable for the commute.
Maybe a road trip is needed or some careful hunting on eBay.
What is the best way to acquire readable copies of Ellison’s short stories? Amazon prices look extremely high at hundreds of dollars per copy. By readable, I mean books with font sizes larger than size 6 so a probably editions published after 1990. Is there a better name for these readable non-1970s editions? eBay and thrift books are also good alternatives. I guess I am surprised prices are so high but I guess many of his books are out of print.

I bought my son 5 different Batman books and we have been reading them together. Lots of fun. I also finally bought Completely Mad (a history of Mad magazine) after wanting to read it for several years so that is on its way.

What is your proposal for a definition of a grilled cheese then so we can distinguish from a melt then?

I will never be without a kamado. I love my Akorn for easy of use and temp control. It would be nice to upgrade to a Primo someday.

Those can be awesome paired with a charcoal smoker to add the smoke flavor and then the pellet finishes off a long cook with zero effort.

My 560 kept having massive flare ups after two years of ownership no matter how I cleaned it. You got a great deal but it is not going to last long IMO.

Well, I think we want to draw the lines between a grilled cheese and a melt because we are in a grilled cheese community.
Personally, I think it would be fun to keep the minimum requirements to bread, cheese, butter/mayo and a grillled/heat aspect to crisp the bread. Multiple types of cheese, sure. Pesto, cilantro, dipping in tomato soup, cream cheese, all good. However, I do think the main focus of the meal should be the cheese. If bacon is a accessory for the cheese like one strip then fine. If it is the main point (like 10 slices), then no. Same for chicken, burger meat, turkey slices etc. if you want to be creative and add one slice of bacon, one slice of Turkey, one slice of chicken, then you are overriding the glory of the cheese. The golden rule with a grilled cheese is that you must respect the cheese. Extra ingredients can be included but if they detract materially from the glory of the cheese, you have made a melt.
I have a new PK300 and an Akorn. I have previously owned a Weber 22”, a Masterbuilt 560, and a Pit Barrel Cooker.

I have tested all of the IOS apps available and I like wefwef and MLEMapp the best. Both seem intuitive to use and have the handy list of subscribed communities easily available for individual scrolling.

So I shouldn’t make a post asking which is the best lemmy community under 1k? I am tempted to create like 10 accounts and just hang out in these local “slow” communities.

Fireworks are very bad this year. We tried some kind of brownie that was $5 bucks and supposed calm him and a product called July 3. Both did not work. What is your best product for dogs and calming them during fireworks?

Thank you all. You are all right that it would be an awful idea for me to start one but I was interested in learning a bit more about why someone would do so. This is very enlightening.
What are the pros and cons? For someone who has zero IT background so ELI5.
How can I change my username? Thanks
