FedEx is so very complicated, FXG isn't union, Federal Express is, IIRC something to do with them being under FAA authority. Not sure about FedEx Freight, FedEx LTL or FedEx Expediting. And that's just part of the mess of the company. As to the name thing, that was started by RPS, FXG's predecessor, and was a single contractor buying a route from RPS, with RPS supplying vans and uniforms much the way Amazon does with their companies, but it's entirely possible that some of those drivers bought multiple routes and formed up their own little company, or that FXG followed in Amazon's footsteps and switched to contracting with companies rather than individuals.

Amazon upped it here by hiring courier companies, even helping to found them, with really bad contract deals, rather than hiring individual contractors like companies had before this.

Amazon is particularly good at thinking up ways to avoid responsibility, they own no vans, employ no drivers, have no planes nor employ any pilots, and they don't own any tractors and don't employ any truck drivers.

Did they change? I worked for them as a sorter before they were FedEx Ground, and at that time it was similar, each driver was a contractor with FXG, but after the lawsuit (dunno what happened with that), and seeing how successful the scam was for Amazon, I wouldn't be surprised if'n they changed.

I'm not surprised it won't be an electric Maverick, I don't think they're ready to make a new version, and the current chassis I don't think would work for a BEV, though I'm surprised they haven't made a PHEV version, as the chassis is shared with the Escape IIRC which has a PHEV version or at least had one.

I wish they'd make an extended cab version of the Maverick, but I suppose the inability to keep up with demand is a large part of why they haven't.

Are you talking why for the user, or why it was developed? The main reason it exists is that System 76 like the Gnome desktop, but didn't like stuff Gnome was doing, so they decided to make their own version from scratch in Rust. For a user, I don't think there's any real compelling reason to use it, especially not right now, unless you love Rust, or have the same feelings about Gnome that S76 did.

I've been running it on my Asahi linux for a bit over a week, and while it comes off feeling a bit bare bones, I've had no stability issues despite it being an alpha, in fact all issues I've had are minor, in fact the biggest issues come from Asahi Linux, not Cosmic.

I think the browser issues are just Firefox, I suspect it isn't playing nicely with Wayland or they haven't figured it out, as tabs aren't draggable, but there's a move tab menu choice. Also right click doesn't work right, I forgot to mention that, right clicking on a link opens in a new tab and switches you to it, even if'n you don't have that on. As to the keyboard, the layouts section is completely missing in Cinnamon's keyboard menu, and some research online came back that there's no way to change the layout, apparently it was overlooked by the Wayland project.

Indeed, this would be nice to see. For me, the problem is really that LightBurn is over kill, for a cheap basic machine, you really don't need half of what it offers. Heck, I'd love to see an Android software for lasers, and am surprised that hasn't happened yet.

I find the whole response to be sus as hell, and more than a bit racist. One debate and their willing to dump him? And the rather noticeable lack of suggesting the VP, a black woman, takes over sounds more than a little bit racist. Why not bring Harris up? This, and it's a really smart decision for both, VW has been struggling on the software side, and Rivian is already offering custom software solutions to fleet buyers of their step vans, so now their software people get more work, and Rivian gets more money.

I'm not real sure how she is on policies, I rarely see anything about her in the news, but even if she's not great now, the bigger question is can she learn, and this would be a good proving ground for that.

While I am concerned with Biden's performance, but a debate really has little to do with his actual job, so I'm not real worried about his performance. That said, it prolly wouldn't be a bad idea to get her more involved, let her flex her skills in front of voters and such, that way if he does need to step down before or after the election, the voters know his replacement already, and what she can do.

Do remember that those were designed from the start to have active cooling, the Leaf wasn't, in fact it's a great example of a lack of foresight between the lack of active cooling and the Chademo plug.

Cost isn't the only factor to adding a cooling loop, there's a good chance that they'd have to make room in the pack for the cooling system, which means either a bigger pack or a less powerful pack. As to cost, have to engineer the radiating, plumbing, plumbing mounting, computer controls for the cooling system, and of course the radiator needs good airflow which might require a redesign of the front end, and the charger port is there, so that might need moving which requires more engineering. It snowballs easily.

I actually agree, we leased our Leaf because we wanted an inexpensive electric car, and this was at the height of the Bolt battery mess, so that really only left the Leaf, but we weren't dumb enough to buy it, use it during it's best years, then give it back and let it be someone else's problem.

Possible, unlikely though below the level that would make any ICE vehicle an insurance write off too, so no real reason to worry about that unless you plan on regularly driving through flooded roads

I think much of the Leaf's lack of innovation was due to price, the goal was for it to be an everyday car in looks, operation and price, and that last one means it'd never be very profitable, at least not for a long time, so updates just weren't feasible. A good question is how does the Arriya compare to other brands EVs, since that's their newest most modern vehicle.

Not real surprising, as I understand, all their electric vehicles are basically variants on the same vehicle, whether you're talking a BrightDrop van, Silverado electric, Equinox EV or the upcoming Bolt, economies of scale and all that.

With the catalog of products they have to base it on, I have no doubts they can do it, but I do have doubts to reliability and Jeepness, it'll prolly just be another cheap electric crossover that could be mistaken for any other out there

Could I get a practical truck? I'm a courier, I need seating for one, good cargo capacity and good range. I'd buy a Maverick if'n they offered it in a extended cab, I mean with how many plants make that chassis, I can't see why they can't offer an extended cab targeted at the business market.

It was around $60 for a full set of ink (colour and black and white) when we grabbed some a month or so ago, so about average I think. When you think about printers, what brands do people talk about? HP, Brother and Epson, right? Canon I think isn't really trying hard here, printers are just an offshoot of their camera business, do they make much else that isn't cameras or camera related?

I've got a Canon TS642A that's serving us well here. My Brother was giving me problems, mostly in wireless connectivity so we replaced it with this, which was I think the second cheapest Canon we could find, and we've only replaced the cartridges I think once in the last year, though we don't use it all that much. On Linux, I don't think it even needs drivers, its... Postscript I think? Setting up the wireless was a bit tricky, but once up and running, it's been rock solid.

Except that Amazon doesn't own the vans. Seriously, the entire thing is carefully sculpted BS, the drivers work for a company that works for Amazon, a company for whom Amazon is nice enough to set up with vans, computers, scanners, and everything else they need, long as they keep Amazon happy, but at any time for any reason Amazon can pull the rug out from under them. For the record, I'm a Flex driver, IE contract Amazon driver, which is why I know how the other side of the deliveries work.

It particularly sucks for desktop use on phones that support it, no right click, no keyboard short cuts, and it clips a bit off the bottom of pages, and they've apparently said they have no plans to support desktop on Android.
