As I understand it it's the anti-cheat that is the problem. If this is the only problem there is essentially only two possible ways to get Fortnite running in Linux:
- Get Epic to support Linux
- Crack the anti-cheat.
Since a major part of anti-cheat systems is preventing people circumventing it I would say that the easiest path would be getting epic to support Linux. One valid argument would be to play Fortnite on Steamdeck .

Essentially it only moves the borders of the partitions and "repairs" the filesystem inside each affected partition.
If there is data in an area inside the partion you are manipulating gparted has to move the data to an area inside the partition that is unaffected or move it to the new parts of the partition. This can take a long time even if modern PCs easily move 100MB/s
Also, even if gparted is mature software and the devs probably have implemented a lot of security measures you should always backup your data before manipulating the partitions. Especially when you're playing around with filesystems that aren't native like NTFS or more complicated filesystems like ZFS. I know people often nag about this but trust me... Blow 2TB of your data and you really really regret not spending 10 minutes backing up the essentials.
I've been using gparted for as long as I can remember and only once or twice has it caused dats loss. Since I'm very old school (started playing with PCs when 386DX 16MHz was fairly hot and RLL disks were a thing) and nerdy I was able to use data rescue software that looked for filesystems over the whole disk and guessed where partition borders should be.
Avoid this type of anxiety by backing up all data or at least backing up the data you can't live without.
Also, if you have a spare disk, it's faster and much safer to partition the spare one and just clone each partition. Sometimes it's even faster to clone the disk this way and then clone it back.

While high speed trains reach speeds up to around 350kmh ordinary trains reach speeds up to around 250kmh.
So while high speed trains can go about 50% faster than ordinary trains the price tag for building and maintaining is many times more expensive compared to ordinary railway.
So let's start maintaining the railways we have and build more. Making sure that it's possible to go from point A to point B safely and in time
Then we start building high speed railways, connecting major cities.

Slovakia will ending their support for Ukraine isn't a problem as to what will happen when the US and EU stops supporting Slovakia.
The amount of money the US and EU has poured into Slovakia the last ten twenty years is far from insignificant.
If Slovakia decides to stop believing in Europe then Europe will stop believing in Slovakia.

It's a well known fact that every second major release of Windows is crap.
- Windows 95 was not the best.
- Windows 95OSR2 was the one you wanted.
- Windows 98 sucked.
- Windows 98 2nd ed. worked as the former should have.
- Windows 2000 was great but had no support for running games.
- XP solved that and made people leave Windows 98 (I deliberately left out the clusterf... Windows ME.).
- Windows Vista sucked balls.
- Windows 7 was what Vista should have been.
- Windows 8? Metro on phones, yes! On desktop? No no no.
- Windows 10 got Microsoft back on track again.
I thought the new upgrade scheme (2 editions per year) Microsoft introduced with Windows 10 would be like "every second release will suck" but it started to look like Microsoft were able to break the curse....
...and then Windows 11 happened.

The article you're linking to starts with security researchers who installed their own backdoor which went undetected. Then it continues with a warning about the dangers of not being able to check if the firmware actually is a firmware actually from the vendor and not a manipulated one.
While I'm pro open source and agree that there are dangers not knowing what firmware is used I fail to see how an open source firmware / bios world be immune to be switched out.
What am I missing here?

I second this. Here in Sweden we used to have a movie site where they applied some magic to the calculation and presented how you would rate a movie on a scale 1-5 and they were always correct within ±1 point. So fx a 3 could be either 2, 3 or 4 etc etc. While the site still exists it has seen better days so RT had been my go-to site for movie scores and reviews.

I got curious about the last statement in the article about war crimes and wanted to find information on what war crimes the division was responsible for.
According to Wikipedia there has been numerous investigations which all (as I understood it) has been unsuccessful in finding hard evidence.
Now, I'm not defending Nazis and I'm not saying this division was nice in any way or not guilty of war crimes. I'm just concluding that most things in life are not just black or white.

Isn't "anyone can fork if a project doesn't really fit their taste" sort of the curse of open source?
Swallowing your pride, merging into another project and taking a less glamorous role in that project is not as easy as it was to fork when steering your project.
This is generally speaking. I'm definitively not saying any of this is that case with the XFS project.
Ps. Murdering your wife is also something that seems to be bad for filesystems....

You bringing up things that doesn't even share a similar context is either plain stupid or very deliberate.
I'm voting for the latter.

In the old days Microsoft essentially conquered the web by creating specialized features only available for their web browser.
This is the reason why we still suffer with IE compatibility mode in Edge. A lot of corporations still have systems that rely on clients being IE compatible.
Google essentially does the same with their services and Chrome.

Unfortunately this is coming and a majority of people are going to happily step on to the train.
Think of it like this: 99% of all apps could have been just web apps in a mobile browser (Hell, a majority essentially are just a wrapped web app) but because of companies offering more/better functionality people choose to use the app.
All that needs to happen is sites starting require DRM functionality for "security reasons" so that the end user can enjoy more features.
A majority of end users don't understand the implications when making choices like these.

Grub is a bootloader. Instead of starting Windows immediately when you turn on the computer there is a program called grub that is started. In grub you get a menu where you can choose what OS, Windows or Linux, you want to start.
Now, Microsoft doesn't like that because in their world there is only one OS so why would you even need to choose? 😉 So what Windows does sometimes is to remove Grub and make sure the computer starts directly into windows.
If this happens you just Google and you will find how to boot up on your Linux DVD/USBstick and run some commands to get the menu (Grub) back.

Care to elaborate?
Weird thing has started to happen the last day or two. My Subscribed flow is suddenly filled with old posts. For example this: https://lemmy.ml/post/46651 There are no replies that are even close to as old as the post itself is which indicates that something fishy is going on. Someone got the post in their flow now and therefore started to reply to it. This is just one example of many in my flow right now... So is there a bug or something going on?
I'm using Ampere to see information about battery charging. However, I'm not able to see the voltage or current charging mode (normal, QC or USB-PD fx) on my S20FE 5g. Does such an app exist?
Two years ago I started composting the cut grass from the lawnmower and occasionally some thin twigs and leaves. "Composting" as in dining it all in a cheap plastic compost container without any bottom. In my head worms and other things would find their way there and start munching away. In reality the end result was dry cut grass cakes and twigs. So this spring we got rid of the contents. So ... What beginners guide to easy composting do you recommend. I would like to start easy and in a distant future, if all goes well now, I might get an isolated container for leftover food and scrap. But that seems very distant right now.
