You've got a good point there but limiting it just to the west shows your lack of understanding about world politics. The imperialist approach is present in many parts of the world and throughout old and recent history. Besides the west, Russia (warning: propagandists incoming) is doing that with neighboring countries and in Africa, just like China and other African countries are doing that too in Africa. Rwanda in Congo for example. China to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Japan and their massacres during WWII. Morocco in the Sahara region. Israel in Palestine, and vice versa Hamas to Israel. In Islamic countries: sunnies vs sjiets (or however it's written).
So your point of view is a bit too brainwashed around the west I'm afraid. Lots of governments trying to subjugate other countries for wealth and power benefits.

There's tops you can buy really cheap that you can put in a bottle and have a very cheap bidet. I think for many people it's a struggle to change their mind that this is also OK and it doesn't have to cost thousands of $$$

Same, I just had no cash. I was very much involved in the discussions around it though.

Functionality-wise it definitely is, but secure wise no. There's probably same kind of tracking for profit going on in the background like with WhatsApp and signal. SimpleX is a better alternative privacy and security wise, but it's still in heavy development

Well, he caused this himself in the end, he failed to deliver on the part of secure and private messaging because default chats are insecure and secret chats are a buggy joke. If he delivered in the promise of providing a real secure and private messenger and did real effort to fight against spam, then things mind have turned out differently. Decentralization should also have been part of it.
In the end, he chose for fancy features instead.

I can't explain, perhaps due to my limited knowledge about the subject. I understood that compression was a weakening factor for encryption years ago when I heard about it. Always good to do your own research in the end 🙃

The big benefit theism often gives is the sense of community. Atheism should do that more often too, so people are not forced to become religious for the sake of having a community.
But that's a bit besides your question 🙃

I also don't like the duplication of logs in journald and syslog, so I always disable forwarding to syslog

Encryption and compression don't play well together though. You should consider that when storing sensitive files. That's why it's recommended to leave compression off in https because it weakens the encryption strength

I doubt iPhone is better, and it's marketing instead. Or it's a matter of time before they wanna go the data mining road. You can also get a fairphone and install a custom ROM

Not meant as offensive at all or any way to discredit you, but this is horrible/useless advice. Because humans mostly don't think longer term, especially with younger people. A LOT is about the short term satisfaction. E.g. a lot of people know alcohol is so damaging but the short term benefits are just so big

Wow this is such a coincidence but I've recently started doing it. Drink a bit to be motivated to work out and drink a bit after too. I'm not proud of it, but at least it gets me going. I hope to reduce drinking gradually

In my experience, google maps has the same issues in some areas,e.g. Tanger. OSM was way more reliable there. You could help fix those issues by contributing. I think it's fun and you'll get to know your neighborhood better

I understand it's a very subjective experience. And tbh, one thing that bothers me about cabled ones is the cable noise when moving. Or accidentally pulling off the headphones from my head, although that's not a common issue, but for sitting experience they're perfect. Aside from that, my music preference is very eclectic, so e.g. the level of bass really needs to adapt properly to the genre I'm listening to atm, so the boosted bass Bluetooth headphones just don't work for me. I've never experienced a Bluetooth pair that doesn't have too much bass.

Uranium is a much scarcer source compared to thorium. Uranium can also be used to create nuclear weapons, that's why other countries have difficulties using the tech because foreign powers are afraid of these consequences
LemmyHead 3 months ago • 80%
Already India and chine have had working ones for many years. It's not speculative and I recommend you to research the tech. It's unfortunately not very present in western nuclear energy debates. Could be a political reason but that's just a dirty guess
LemmyHead 3 months ago • 100%
I might be exaggerating a but I've never been a real fan of Bluetooth headphones or earphones. Sound quality never matched cabled ones (I also have the popular Sony one) and battery life sucks for the time I want to use it
LemmyHead 3 months ago • 100%
Over has always been more effective, also to take it with one hand
LemmyHead 3 months ago • 36%
The problem with these arguments and the focus of debates is that they are based on nuclear energy from uranium, not thorium. Thorium is ubiquitous in nature, power centers are much easier to set up and can be small and the waste, while initially (a bit) more radioactive than uranium waste, loses it's radiation level much faster
Edit:typo

The thing with a pizzeria is that I expect that you'll just be standing statically a lot. Working at a bar, as a waiter will give you the opportunity to walk a lot. As a barman to talk to people and move more than when you'd just be making pizzas in the kitchen

Electron is a widely hated framework on Linux, but what about the alternatives like Neutralinojs? In their own words: In Electron and NWjs, you have to install Node.js and hundreds of dependency libraries. Embedded Chromium and Node.js make simple apps bloaty — in most scenarios, framework weights more than your app source. Neutralinojs offers a lightweight and portable SDK which is an alternative for Electron and NW.js. Neutralinojs doesn't bundle Chromium and uses the existing web browser library in the operating system (Eg: gtk-webkit2 on Linux). Neutralinojs implements a secure WebSocket connection for native operations and embeds a static web server to serve the web content. Also, it offers a built-in JavaScript client library for developers. Do you experience alternatives like Njs to blend more in the desktop layout, install less junk, use less memory, are more compatible with Wayland,...?
It seems like all it took was the right amount of cash for privacy not to matter anymore.
There are many discord servers that can help you overcome drug (and alcohol) abuse if that's what you want. Highly recommended to pay them a visit.
I'm talking for example about Apple relying on child labor in China for cheap labour, being directly responsible for suicides in the factories of their Chinese partners, them sabotaging their clients phones to make them slower. Not only limited to apply but also others like Facebook, Google,... Ideally the information should be presented in a simple and easy to get format.

I'm looking for a way that's appreciated by the community and doesn't break any rules. I just created one that I think was missing here.
I created it because I saw that on reddit, it was one of the most supportive communities. I also read that more people became abusive drinkers during the pandemics and as alcohol ads are omnipotent nowadays, it just makes a lot of sense to have this community here too. Hopefully, people can find the support they need here to overcome this problem. Sorry, my first post isn't too interesting, I just thought we needed this here too. Supportive communities like these make a big difference. Related community: !stopdrinking@lemmy.world. I would suggest to go to that one if you purely want to focus on your goal of not drinking anymore. This c/ allows you to talk about alcoholism more broadly.
