Your concerns are valid but all the Rs coming out like this is more about how terrible Trump is and less about anything else. Don’t underestimate how many moderates there are in both parties and these Rs help there - progressives need their votes. After Trump is gone, we can hopefully go back to trying to improve the voting system, pushing Dems more left and hope that anyone on the right exchanges some of their selfinterests for social interests - but that’s best we can dream for.

A Special Christmas, Not Forgotten (violence)

Miguel and Alisha walked down the dimly lit street, their footsteps echoing in the silence of the night. The air was cool, and they pulled their jackets tighter around them. The day had been long but was filled with laughter and joy with with friends. Now returning home, the eerie quietness of the deserted road was a stark contrast to the warmth of the evening. As they turned a corner, a van screeched to a halt beside them. Four men jumped out, their faces masked. Miguel tried to shield Alisha, but the men were too strong. They brutally assaulted both teenagers, leaving them bruised and bloodied. Gagged and bound, Miguel and Alisha were thrown into the van's back, the door slamming shut with a chilling finality. But before they could get back into the van, a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness. His skull face gleamed ominously under the pale streetlights, and the air around him seemed to crackle with a dark energy. Skeletor had arrived. The men stared, momentarily frozen by the skeletal visage before them. One of them sneered, trying to mask his fear with bravado. "Look, it's just one of those freak cosplayers," he scoffed. Skeletor's hollow laughter echoed through the night. "Foolish mortals," he hissed, raising a hand that glowed with an unholy light. "You have made a grave mistake." With a flick of his wrist, dark tendrils of magic lashed out, ensnaring the first man. He screamed as the dark energy twisted and contorted his body, snapping bones and tearing flesh. The other men watched in horror as their companion was reduced to a grotesque, lifeless heap. Skeletor moved toward the second man, who tried to flee. But there was no escape. A bolt of dark energy struck him, and he disintegrated into ashes, his scream cut short. The third man fell to his knees, begging for mercy, but Skeletor was relentless. His eyes glowed with a malevolent fire as he summoned a dark force that engulfed the man, dissolving him into a pool of blood and gore. The last man, paralyzed with fear, barely had time to react before Skeletor's magic ripped him apart, scattering his remains across the street. The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the sound of dripping blood. Skeletor turned to the van, opening the door with a wave of his hand. Miguel and Alisha stared at him, their eyes wide with a mix of fear and sudden recognition. Skeletor's face was illuminated in the dim light, his skeletal grin unmistakable. "It's you," Miguel managed to whisper, his voice muffled by the gag. Skeletor gestured, and the bindings around their wrists and mouths vanished. He cast a shroud of darkness over the horrific scene outside the van, shielding them from the gruesome sight. Blood pooled just within their view, but they were unfazed, their relief and gratitude overwhelming their fear. Skeletor's eyes narrowed, a sarcastic edge to his tone. "What would the point of saving you two back then, if I allowed such harm to befall you now?" Miguel and Alisha exchanged glances before nodding in agreement. They stepped out of the van, the stench of blood and death lingering in the air. Despite the horror, they felt an odd sense of comfort in Skeletor's presence. "Thank you," Alisha said softly, her voice trembling but sincere. Skeletor waved his hand, and a portal shimmered into existence before them. "Go home," he commanded, his tone gruff but not unkind. "And perhaps consider learning some self-defense." The teenagers nodded, stepping through the portal. They turned back one last time, their faces illuminated by the portal's glow. "Thank you again," Miguel said, his voice steadier now. Skeletor's skeletal grin widened. "Stay safe - unless you want to end up with a face like mine." With that, he dissolved into the shadows, leaving the teenagers to ponder the strange and dark guardian who had saved them once more.

    Even Sith Lords

It was an ordinary day at Galactic Glow, a popular skincare store in Coruscant, bustling with customers seeking the latest in beauty and wellness products. The ambient music played softly, and the air was filled with the fragrant blend of exotic lotions and creams. The employees, accustomed to assisting a variety of clients, were ready for another typical day at work. Suddenly, the doors slid open with a hiss, and a heavy, rhythmic breathing filled the store. The towering figure of Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, strode into the shop, his black cape flowing behind him, and his menacing helmet casting a shadow over the well-lit aisles. The atmosphere shifted immediately; the employees and customers froze in their tracks, eyes wide with a mix of fear and astonishment. Whispers spread quickly. "Is that...?" "It can't be..." "Why is he here?" Vader's presence was intimidating, to say the least. His reputation for ruthlessness preceded him, and his very appearance commanded both fear and respect. The employees huddled together, their usual customer service smiles replaced by expressions of terror. No one dared to approach the Sith Lord, whose patience seemed as thin as the razor-sharp edge of a lightsaber. All but one employee stood petrified. This employee, known for their unshakeable composure and professionalism, stepped forward. It was just another day at work for them. With a calm demeanor, they approached Vader, maintaining steady eye contact, or at least as much eye contact as one could manage with a man wearing a mask. "Good day, Lord Vader. How may I assist you today?" they asked, their voice steady and polite. Vader's helmet turned slightly, his mechanical breathing the only sound breaking the tense silence. He looked down at the brave employee, considering for a moment. "I require skincare products suitable for maintaining... optimal condition beneath my armor," he stated, his deep voice resonating through the store. The employee nodded thoughtfully. "Of course, my Lord. We have a range of products that might meet your needs. May I suggest starting with a moisturizing cleanser to help with any dryness, followed by a soothing serum to keep your skin in top condition?" Vader gave a slight nod of approval. "Proceed." With careful precision, the employee led Vader through the aisles, selecting products that catered to his unique requirements. They explained each item's benefits, how to use them, and why they were essential for maintaining healthy skin, even beneath a helmet. The rest of the store watched in awe as the transaction unfolded. Darth Vader, known for his power and control, was now discussing skincare routines with an unflinching employee. The juxtaposition was surreal, yet the employee remained unfazed, treating the situation with the same professionalism they would offer any other customer. After selecting a collection of products, Vader made his way to the counter. The transaction was completed smoothly, with the employee efficiently packing the items. "Thank you for your assistance," Vader said, his tone as formal as ever. "You're welcome, Lord Vader. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to return," the employee replied, maintaining their composure to the end. With a final nod, Darth Vader turned and exited the store, leaving behind a roomful of stunned employees and customers. The employee who had helped him returned to their colleagues, who stared in disbelief. "How did you stay so calm?" one of them asked. The employee shrugged. "It's all in a day's work. Everyone deserves good skincare, even Sith Lords." And with that, they returned to their duties, ready to face whatever else the day might bring.

Attempting to freeze matter under extreme pressure?

I tried finding some research and found lots about freezing matter or putting it under extreme pressure, but not trying both. My thought experiment involved taking a small portion of ideal of matter (not sure what), artificially applying extreme pressure to it and than attempt to lower its temperature and if possible, apply even more pressure before trying to lower its temperature - taking it as low as possible under the highest pressure you could. I assumed there's likely to be a conflict between pressure - thus increasing vibration/wave properties of the material - and how it would be possible to reduce those energetic wave properties. Thanks for any insight.

I do however, still suggest for those interested on the subject to study/brush up on quantum chromodynamics (focusing on the quark sea) and zero-point energy - never neglecting Relativity, of course. They're all very much connected and I believe the ZPE field will be a focus of continuous, real experimental science, with significant ramifications in cosmology. edit 2: Found this [research ](https://phys.org/news/2023-12-dense-quark-liquid-distinct-nucleon.html)just today on nucleon liquid Vs quark liquid - very interesting and very much related to this original post.

Potential energy created by same poles of magnets

Found this very useful Youtube video about [How do Magnets & Magnetic Fields Work?](https://youtu.be/ml1qQs-zusw?si=32oG9_cNlUX0qiyx&t=5557) and within it I finally found someone willing to explain greater details about how same poles repel in laymen terms. The link above takes you to the section where the Presenter explains how (as I understand him) potential energy forms between the same poles and that energy ultimately causes the repulsion. I like his thermodynamic(?) description and haven't ever come across a better laymen explanation. That said, I was hoping to get some opinions about them. I've also read about the exchange of virtual photons but even that wasn't intuitively explained. Thank you for any additional insight.

Learning scientific nomenclature must be what it's like to process a foreign language into your native language...

Language of any kind has always been hard for me, as most languages aren't intuitive and require your brain to be forced into learning often odd and unnecessary rules. My brain hates math, the only language I actually respect and a lot of science is built on complex math and non-intuitive nomenclature. I've been increasingly frustrated by it lately and just need to get this off my chest. I'm a non-professional and have been studying physics for a long time - Quantum Color Dynamics of late - and almost everything I read and listen to requires my brain to constantly process almost every bit of information from non-intuitive nomenclature to personal made ones. It's frustrating that the most challenging aspect of science (besides the complex math) isn't the concepts (I honestly don't find quantum mechanics to be weird) but rather the scientific community's self-imposed nomenclature made of scientist names or hodgepodge of words. Worst of all, I've only been able to process science like this as an adult because as a younger student, the subject matter seemed too hard because it was weighed down by both non-intuitive nomenclature and often teachers who barely understood the concepts they were teaching to the extent that they could translate that nomenclature beyond a book's presentation (obviously my own learning experience). Since I could remember I've loved science and wonder if I might have sought a career in physics, if not for frustrating hurdles like nomenclature, thrown on top of truly beautiful but complex subjects. At least I can enjoy it non-professionally - if only slowly, as I have to process its nomenclature. Thank you. And with that, back to my particle zoo...

    Emergent fields (theoretical physics)

Curious non-professional here. Thought experiment that led me to the question: If we assume that at any given time there's an extreme level of EM and gravitational waves propagating through some point within a cosmic void (a seemingly homogeneous "vacuum"): do the transient emissions form any kind of [emergent](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergence) field? I understand the ever-present zero-point energy but that should be in absence of all else. I'm contemplating an emergent field formed by EM/gravitational traffic. Obviously this field is only as present or strong as the transient fields passing through this point under consideration. Thank you.

Do we live in a giant void? That could solve the puzzle of the universe's expansion, research suggests phys.org

Since I've started studying cosmology as a non-professional, I've found myself rather convinced that there's so much dark matter but with a little "d" - since JWST has started giving us incredible data we've been finding more and more dense regions of dust, ice and gas where we've never thought, or previously seen before - but not new Dark Matter particles, regardless of claims of their influences. To be clear, both models should be studied and MOND continues to develop, however slowly it might be. As for those who've been keeping score between MOND vs DM (with a big "D") many have pointed to the recent [wide binary](https://arxiv.org/abs/2309.10995) as "proof" that MOND is falsified. I honestly believe space is so much more nuanced than we've observed so far and future discoveries will certainly reveal as much. At any rate, I'd like to link [Stacy McGaugh's](https://tritonstation.com/2023/11/23/a-post-in-which-some-value-judgements-are-made-about-the-situation-with-wide-binaries/) recent entry into the debate for consideration. Edit: Found this [Youtube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBAv7rytktU&t=1s) that does a good job explaining the basics of this paper. Here's a direct [link to their paper](https://academic.oup.com/mnras/article/527/3/4388/7337338?login=false) (also found in the phys.org). Zero-point Energy fields - reality Vs best description

    >According to quantum field theory, the universe can be thought of not as isolated particles but continuous fluctuating fields: matter fields, whose quanta are fermions (i.e., leptons and quarks), and force fields, whose quanta are bosons (e.g., photons and gluons). All these fields have zero-point energy.> [Zero-point Energy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-point_energy) Is the quantum mechanical math just easier to calculate each having its own separate field, rather than an identical field of origin, but each unique excitation giving each their own identity/unique properties? Sometimes QM systems seem true to reality and at other times just the best description we have at the moment - I find it more plausible for there to be a shared field of origin that diverges from unique excitations/properties. It's also very likely I'm studying QM fields incorrectly. Thanks for any insight.

Feels like a shower thought, but I seriously want to know if there are any implications, because it seems like identical twins are able to sense, understand, and almost be extensions of each other - finish each other's sentences/thoughts. Vast bubble of galaxies discovered, Hoʻoleilana phys.org

From the article: "In detail, Hoʻoleilana is slightly larger than anticipated from the theory of the standard model of cosmology, and what has been found from prior statistical pair-wise studies of galaxy separations. The size is in accord with observations of the local expansion rate of the universe and of galaxy flows on large scales that also hint at subtle problems with the standard model." My recent post about reexamining the [standard cosmological model](https://lemm.ee/post/6579509) and thus, *Dark Energy.*

Heart of Darkness Critical Essay - Subir Sarkar (links for more research in post, as well as my own non-professional findings) https://inference-review.com/article/heart-of-darkness

(A great video introduction to Subir Sarkar's findings as well a recent related article down below) For a few months I've been studying [MOND](http://scholarpedia.org/article/The_MOND_paradigm_of_modified_dynamics) and [those best propagating it's paradigm](https://lemm.ee/post/4067100). While studying I regularly came across references to Dark Energy and always had an intuitive discomfort with it. So I took a break from MOND and dove deeper into Dark Energy, hoping to enlighten myself better on it. It wasn't long until I came across Professor Subir Sarkar's work and it's implications on Dark Energy. While the video and links I've posted sheds light how modified the Standard Model of Cosmology is (refer to links), Sarkar's work also perfectly highlighted (I think coincidentally) Dark Matter's taint in the Standard Lambda-CDM model. To be clear, Sarkar has hypothesized and done papers narrowing down/out some forms of DM, but he is a self-proclaimed phonologist and ultimately seems agnostic about which gravity model (MOND or some form of DM) will stand the test of time, only that the model makes good predictions and best fits observable data. But I personally find it interesting that both the "Darks" are tainting the other's model and if you remove both of them, MOND has one less issue to answer for, while cosmology simply goes back to improving observations (locally and beyond) and eventually answer our cosmological constant (flat, positive, negative). With improved modeling of our [galaxy filaments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_filament), we should discover the answer - if not be much closer to it. - [Is the Universe Accelerating? | Subir Sarkar (video)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJzU9hDjiRk&t=1392s) - [Lopsided' Universe could mean revision of standard cosmological model (article)](https://www.physics.ox.ac.uk/news/lopsided-universe-could-mean-revision-standard-cosmological-model) Edit: wording - Edit 2: clarification about Sarkar

    Niche Gravity Theory?

There's a good many gravity theories, some that don't even try to explain the why, only the how and other's that involve some particle like the graviton. But anyone know if there's any based on the energetic vibrations of our known particles with mass (those within protons and neutrons)? In other words, gravity's space warp is a result of all the heavy work done by powerful particles; the more mass at work (density), the more space warps. I found [this one,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_explanations_of_gravitation) and I recall someone trying to do a current version of it but can't seem to locate it (perhaps being developed outside of English language). Thanks for any insight.

    Gravity field scaling?

(To be clear, I'm more interested in the reach and scaling of gravity.) If we were to suddenly double earth's mass, but not it's size, would it's field double in size (I assume strength as well), to the extent that if I were to measure this increased gravity at the same place I measured earth's normal gravity, it would simply be double? If so, the least measurable point of both gravitates should also be the same? Just wondering if there's diminishing returns or if mass and density affects a gravity field the same regardless of whether it's an asteroid or a billion Solar Masses. Feel free to share any views I'm not taking into account in regards to gravity fields. Thanks

Could the fabric of space be the origin of baryon matter?

I've been doing a bit of searching for theories on the origin of baryon matter (including antimatter of course) and some seem to hint at quantum particles spawning from the fabric of space (but doesn't seem to theorize on how this happened) but not many focus on hypothesizing how all forms of baryon matter ether: was the default starting point (that is empty space wasn't the default origin, energy was) or that the fabric of space is the origin of baryon matter (something like: space has the blue print and energy supplies the material). Thanks for any insight/links that focus on this question

The largest structures in the Universe are still glowing with the shock of their creation theconversation.com

I'm studying how the universe's filaments are connected and evolve. It seems electromagnetism has a very interesting nature through gas/particles that exist between galaxies. While there is still much to learn about gravity, these last couple of years has shown me cosmology and astrophysics needs to examine magnetism's large scale relationship within our universe far more closely.

Area of gravity at the center of large, dense celestial bodies...

I've read that at the center of large celestial bodies there's zero gravity (or close to). While confirmation would be nice, if true, I'm wondering how large that area can actually be and moreover, does it scale up with more mass and/or even size - that is, does the sun have a larger center area of low (zero?) gravity than the earth and so on with evermore mass. Or is that area the same regardless of mass' size? Thank you

Prof. Stacy McGaugh: studies galaxies, cosmology, and the mass discrepancy problem

As a part of my growing series researching MOND and the professionals propagating their research with and around it, I'd like to introduce Prof. Stacy McGaugh - down below are associated links to him, his work both in ΛCDM and MOND. Note: the profile and descriptions posted here (not linked) are made by me, not him - links to his research and lectures down below. - Most cosmologists/astrophysicists study apposing theories for various reasons but Stacy was very invested in ΛCDM in his early career. But as observational research went forth in the field he found the ΛCDM predictions difficult to fit and needed evermore fine tuning, while the MOND hypothesis fit much of the observed data right out of the gate. While Stacy admits that MOND can't account for all observable data, yet, MOND's research funding is drops in a bucket compared to ΛCDM. I invite you to be pragmatic and open minded about MOND, and reflect about how much fine-tuning is necessary for Dark Matter to fit data. Links: - Prof Stacy MCGaugh works at [Case Western Reserve University](https://astronomy.case.edu/faculty/stacy-mcgaugh/). - His own [personal website.](http://astroweb.case.edu/ssm/index.html) Has so many great links, including [The MOND pages,](http://astroweb.case.edu/ssm/mond/) a personal website focused on MOND research, lectures, debates, as well as Dark Matter (which again, he's worked on professionally). - A long-winded lecture that you can watch entirely for greater context, but I'll link to Stacy's portion about MOND's early development, it's predictions and the following successes and challenges: [Stacy McGaugh (CWRU Astronomy) Patterns on the Sky: Galaxy Dynamics Edition](https://youtu.be/H56nPrBhR7I?t=2763) - [KITP Conference 2018 - Lecture and Debate MOND vs. Dark Matter - Stacy McGaugh & Carlos Frenk](https://youtu.be/JjY5BvzoSrg). Carlos Frenk's side of the debate is linked below the video but I found it difficult to play as he has his linked at his own website - it may play for you. Beyond the Darkness - Dark Matter: A Baseless Hypothesis? https://iai.tv/video/beyond-the-darkness

I really, really feel more people who are scientifically pragmatic and follow Cosmology need to learn about Prof. Dr. Pavel Kroupa and his views/research on Dark Matter and current research on MOND; including his own variant of it. If you'd like to learn more about Pavel or MOND: - [The dark matter myth | Pavel Kroupa full interview](https://youtu.be/LN2Ggg723uc) This is a great introduction, especially if you prefer video/audio. - A Blog he's very involved in: [The Dark Matter Crisis](https://darkmattercrisis.wordpress.com/author/pkroupa/) If you take the dive, I highly recommend starting with [82. Galaxy clusters: no problem for MOND after all?](https://darkmattercrisis.wordpress.com/2023/02/25/82-galaxy-clusters-no-problem-for-mond-after-all/) - Here's a lot of ADS research [papers he's worked on.](https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/search/filter_author_facet_hier_fq_author=AND&filter_author_facet_hier_fq_author=author_facet_hier%3A%220%2FKroupa%2C%20P%22&filter_database_fq_database=OR&filter_database_fq_database=database%3A%22astronomy%22&fq=%7B!type%3Daqp%20v%3D%24fq_database%7D&fq=%7B!type%3Daqp%20v%3D%24fq_author%7D&fq_author=(author_facet_hier%3A%220%2FKroupa%2C%20P%22)&fq_database=(database%3A%22astronomy%22)&q=author%3A(%22kroupa%2C%20p.%22)&sort=date%20desc%2C%20bibcode%20desc&unprocessed_parameter=Synonym%20Replacement&unprocessed_parameter=Relative%20Weights&unprocessed_parameter=Use%20For%20Weighting&unprocessed_parameter=Weighted%20Scoring&p_=0) [Wiki for MOND](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modified_Newtonian_dynamics) is a little messy but I found had some good links to better information if you want to do further research in relation to MOND. John Moffat: Modifying Gravity & The Dark Matter Myth youtu.be

Been Studying alternatives to Dark Matter and the rabbit hole has led me to [MOG/STVG](https://arxiv.org/pdf/1412.5424.pdf) by John Moffat. The video I'm sharing is a long and great interview by Curt Jaimungal with Moffat. There are plenty of MOND-like alternatives to Dark Matter and all may be proven wrong should science make further progress discovering Dark Matter. But I feel a great motivator *is* competition and I think MOG/STVG puts up some interesting competition.
