I think my last preorder -- and one of the few in the past 10-15 years -- was Octopath Traveler 2, and that was only because it was discounted and I knew I was going to get it anyway since I'd just played the hell out of the first one before even finding out that there was a sequel about to drop. All in all, I'd say it worked out.
Civ VII, though? Not a fucking chance, given how much of a DLC-riddled shitshow Civ VI currently is. And never, ever, ever preorder an Ubisoft or Bethesda product. Everyone should have figured this out by now.

Depends on the cab, really -- a 1960 cab loaded with V30s is nothing to sneeze at, although it doesn't quite have the same thump as a Mesa Recto 4x12 due to some slight differences in dimensions/internal volume. Some people swear by a 1960 with two V30s and two of the stock G12T-75s in an X pattern, since the speakers do an OK job of complementing one another. Kristian Kohle has a video somewhere on YouTube where he demonstrates how to get some surprisingly decent studio sounds out of a T-75, but it involves some weird mic phasing tricks. On the other hand, loading one of those cabs with Celestion Greenbacks will cover damn near anything boomer rock-adjacent, right up through early thrash metal.
The MF280 (MF400 for the K100-loaded version) is a fucking monster, and the 8412 (later renamed VS412) is a must if you have a Valvestate 8100, 8200, or VS100H and are chasing some of those later Death album sounds. Funny thing is, in the early 00s, they were still producing a cab with almost the exact same dimensions as the 8412/VS412, but stuck these god-awful hot-garbage-but-not-as-terrible-as-the-MG-series "Avatar" speakers in there. (Note: Marshall's Avatar shit is not the same as the company that makes those customizable empty cabs.) That was also when they kind of fucked up the sound on the Valvestate line because they somehow interpreted a bunch of greasy metalheads snatching them up to mean "we have to make this sound more like a dad rock amplifier." The 8412/VS412 version came loaded with Celestion G12L-35s, which lack a lot of the high end clarity/icepick-ness that you get from speakers like the V30, and therefore don't overaccentuate the hiss and fizz you tend to get out of those old Valvestates.
I can't speak to their 2x12s or any of the current production (MX/Origin) oddballs, but as long as the cabinet isn't constructed from literal cardboard, it doesn't really affect the sound much whether it's plywood, MDF, or unobtanium virgin birch ply anointed with the sap of a 10,000 year old tree that only grows in a remote section of the Himalayas. (Cheap chipboard could be problematic as baffle material, though.) Regardless, cab construction means fuck all if the speakers sound like shit.

Not entirely Pearl Jam, but "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog (mix of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden members doing a tribute to one of their buddies who died really young) might be up your alley:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUb450Alpps
Growing up, I liked a fair amount of grunge, but Pearl Jam never made it on my radar until I was a grown-ass adult. In context of other bands from the early- to mid-90s, they're all right; Vedder brings an almost singer-songwriter vibe to the material (albeit a near-unintelligible one), and the instrumentation itself is nothing to write home about, which is why I find it so fucking funny that Mike McCready and Stone Gossard will always go full guitar nerd in interviews about how various songs were written/recorded. Eddie's a giant lib causehead, and is usually on the right side of things (e.g., encouraging concertgoers to help out people living in homeless encampments near concert venues), but I can't speak to any level of follow-through there. Regardless, Ten is about the only one of their albums that I'll regularly listen to. I think of it the same way that Chuck Klosterman describes the album Night Songs by Cinderella -- it's so exemplary of its genre that it could also be passed off as parody.
There is an old Eddie Vedder story where, very early in Pearl Jam's career, he overheard people singing lines from "Black" at the beach. He ran up to them and asked them to stop singing because the lyrics were too personal to him.
::: spoiler Source https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/pearl-jam-five-against-the-world-244637/2/
And one night, while sitting out on a deserted coastal sand bluff, contemplating life after the death of a friend, guitarist Stefanie Sargent of 7 Year removed, he heard strange voices coming from the hill behind him. They were singing “Black,” the fragile song that to Vedder had come to symbolize the overcommercialization of the band. He’d fought to keep it from getting overplayed, didn’t want a video made of the song. Vedder hiked out of the bushes to ask the surprised hikers not to sing the song. Months later, he still remembers their odd and concerned looks as they faced the angst-filled author of the song. :::

"$4,000 boutique tube guitar amp into a Marshall MG 4x12 cabinet" also works. I'd joke about running a Boss Metal Zone into a Two-Rock Coral, but that is something I would unironically do for a laugh if I hung around with the blues dentist crowd and knew someone with a Coral.
