Does plus addresses help circumvent that? I think most email providers supports plus addressing (also known as sub-addressing). You can add plus sign and any string before the at sign. For example: youremail+lemmyaccount1@email.com. The string between plus and at signs can be anything, and all these addresses points to your normal inbox with the added benefit that you can filter them into different folders.

PS. Lemmy version 0.18.2 was released today. It fixes the vulnerability and has some other improvements as well.

Also be wary when using apps and especially when enabling push notifications. Lemmy API currently lacks any kind of support for partial access to an account (unless this has changed recently). So, apps cannot, for example, get read only access to your account's inbox. Apps can get either no access or full access. When you sign up for push notifications, an authentication token is stored to the push notification server which gives full access to your account to who ever happens to get their hand on that token. If there, for example, happens to be a security vulnerability on the push notification server, it might leak those tokens.

If you have enabled push notifications on some Lemmy app, and want to invalidate the token, you can just change your password.

Here's a post by Memmy for Lemmy's developer about push notifications: https://lemmy.ml/post/1534493

As far as I know Lemmy stores only text locally and images and such will be linked to the external instance. Text doesn't use much disk space, so that shouldn't be a big a problem. Sometimes when you browse Lemmy, you notice posts that have broken links to images. It's because the other instance is down, but you can still see the text portion of the posts on your home instance.

Release notes are very short and very generic: > **Version 5.16.2.1 – June 2023** > >Here's what's new: > >Performance improvements, bug fixes, and other general enhancements. Not listed in release notes, but there is now a button for annotations, that I don't think were there before. Have you noticed any other changes or improvements?

Not an audio engineer, but I had unshielded (thin) cables in my home speaker setup. If the cables were positioned correctly, everything was fine. Accidentally move them even a little, and there'd be a huge amount of noise, due to power cables going near the speaker cables. Switched to shielded (thick) cables, and there's no noise ever.

New Mlem for Lemmy TestFlight beta (version 0.2.0(30)) with improved VoiceOver rblind.com

A new beta of Mlem for Lemmy was released on 2023-07-02. Among many other improvements, it has greatly improved VoiceOver support. But there are also the following known issues: - Large posts will prevent scrolling by using left and right gestures with VoiceOver - Unable to navigate to a community from a post with VoiceOver You can read all the details from [their announcement post](https://rblind.com/post/2248528). You can download the update from TestFlight. Remember that there are two separate TestFlight betas. The first ended when there was a change in the development team and won't be updated anymore. If you are in that beta, you need to join the new beta to get the new update.

    • Name of community: No Stupid Questions
    • By using !community@instance syntax: !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world
    • URL of the community: https://lemmy.world/c/nostupidquestions

First option won't work if your instance hasn't federated the community yet. The last option is best in my opinion.

But learning new software can be challenging when you can't see, especially if the software isn't very accessible.

  • buildapc Buildapc Can I migrate to a new hdd without having the reinstall everything?
    Jump
  • ClassyHatter ClassyHatter 1 year ago 100%

I would reinstall Windows, especially if the current installation is old. As long as you can connect all the drives to your computer, you can move files from the old disks. If the games on F: and G: are on Steam or Epic (and other similar launchers probably works similarly), it's easy to move the games around using those launchers. Games that have been installed outside of such launchers might not work if they are moved to a disk with different drive designation or if they are moved to a new Windows installation.

    1. On desktop browser you can see list of your subscribed communities on the front page of the instance, below the sidebar (you can collapse the sidebar). On mobile you can expand the Subscribed list. You can also click your name in upper right corner and choose profile. Your communities are on the side (desktop) or bottom (mobile).
    2. You can search for communities either by their name, using the !community@instance syntax (for example, !memmy@lemmy.ml) or by the community's URL (for example, https://lemmy.ml/c/memmy). That last option usually works, when the other two might fail. If the community is not yet federated with your instance, you can wait a few seconds/moments, and the instance might pop-up in to the search results. Or search again later.

Make sure that your changes actually “sticks”. There are multiple reports of people trying to delete or edit posts, only for them to come back soon after. It seems that deleting isn’t possible and when mass editing posts, there needs to be long enough delay (5 seconds or so) between each edit.

Would be nice if the app would remember last choices of all/subscribed/local and post sorting for each account. So, for example, if I switch to account A it will change to local and hot, and when I switch back to B it will change to subscribed and top.

All/subscribed/local selector doesn’t indicate which is currently chosen.

Make the button for post sorting and three dots button (the buttons in top right corner of the app) slightly bigger. For example, in Apollo these buttons are bigger which makes it easier to hit them.

I noticed in your other thread that the motherboard is Asus. Those beeps indicates that something is wrong with the GPU. Is the new motherboard also Asus? If not, the beeps might mean something else.

Because you have tried 2 GPUs, it's unlikely they both are dead. Check that you have properly seated the GPU and that there isn't extra in the GPU slot. Check the GPU's power cable that it is properly seated at both ends. Try the cable in the PSU's other VGA slot. If you have an other cable, try that too. Do not mix PSU cables of different PSUs, that could result in bad ending.

This motherboard apparently only recognizes 12.

Are you sure it's RAM and not VRAM? The GPU you have has 12GB VRAM. It's kind of odd that the motherboard recognizes 2x8GB as 12GB.

Quick googling says that 1 long beep and 3 short beeps means the RAM is not working correctly. One of the two sticks might have failed. Try the machine with one stick at a time.

Those error "codes" might be manufacturer specific. Try to google "1 long beep and 3 short beeps" and your motherboard manufacturer.

Some communities have bots that copies posts from Reddit. Some do that so there would be more content in Lemmy. Those bots probably don't break any rules set by the Admins of those instances.

Personally I don't like that content is being copied without the permission of those who made the posts in Reddit. Also, in some cases it sort of defies the whole point of the community. For example, one of the Explain Like I'm Five communities has a bot like that. The bot includes a link to the original post. Why would anyone reply to the bot's post, when you can just read the explanation from the original post? That doesn't help make Lemmy more active place when a bot posts things and no human ever replies to them.

    15
